Dee Dee, a Northern Thai street food truck in Austin, TX, was not immune to the global pandemic - owners Lakana and Justin Trubiana were forced to temporarily close down for the first time since they started their business four years ago. But that time away from work has had a silver lining, as Lakana was able to focus on her other passion: her garden. Lakana shows off her exceptional array of plants, like cilantro, zucchini, banana, sage, chilis, and more. She is now incorporating the herbs and vegetables from her garden in Dee Dee's menu.

Lakana is such a gorgeous human! She's constructive, proactive and so respectful and considerate! Even though she doesn't grow sage, she grows it for her mother-in-law. More people should be like her.

Food trucks and authentic small restaurants run by traditional chefs are absolutely up there with some of the great Michelin rated restaurants. Chefs like Lakana should get more attention.

She is probably one of the loveliest and most hard working women I've ever seen, really. I genuinely respect her for what she's accomplished in a foreign land, and she inspires me a lot. I've eaten at Dee Dee once and it was hard to settle for Thai cuisine anywhere else. There are some great places in DFW but Lakana at Dee Dee is a whole different level of authentic Thai cuisine.

So happy they are reopening! Definitely have to grab some next weekend if we all are not infected by then. I live on the north side but will be making that trip. It is my favorite Thai in Austin. During this time, losing all the restaurants permanently, it is good to see them carrying on.

I saw her on RU-vid 3 years ago. Her food look very authentic, similar to my hometown. I am from north but she is from North Eastern (Isarn) so her hometown style foods are more spicy and salty and more sour than my hometown. Which I prefer Isarn foods better 🤣 I can't believe she has a frenchie because I have 2 but they're older. So cute. Yes, lifestyle changes during covid and it's tough to pay bills and gain income but I can tell that they worked very hard because covid so I am glad that they take time to chill and enjoy each others.

That looks great! I would try one of everything if I ever met them! So Fresh it was piked this morning. By THE Chef! Thailand / Hawaii / Cambodia / Japan / Korea / 'Spanish' (wide demographic, I know) are tied for my favorites to cook. If I made a Food truck, I'd make Ribs & Udon (Or Saigon 'Red' Pad Thai) in Spring/Summer. In the summer, Vanilla-Chocolate-Lemon Gelato. In Winter I'd sell homemade Oden & Potstickers. I heard average Trucks can be $4K a month tho... Great looking garden! Your dog is wonderful! Remember to clean your hands before leaving & after you come home, folks!
