thanks bill, i'm glad you got it... some viewers just automatically assume if i post a review i'm saying everyone should buy it lol. this is definitely a product only for consideration by a minority of riders.

I have the original Ankle Savers foot pegs on both of my bikes. It is the 1st thing I buy for any new bike. The Fast Way ones are a licensing deal between the 2 companies I guess. I ride both MX, trail, and enduro I've had 2 ankle injuries over the last several years both times from a big flat landing and frontal hyperextension of my ankles. I was wearing Gaerne SG 10s both times. What people do not realize is those boots are the best around but NOT good for frontal overextension of your ankles. I learned that the hard way. Once I sprained both ankles at the same time, The ankle Saver pegs HELP for sure but will not guarantee your ankles from injury altogether. BUT I will not go without them they are on my top 10 list of all time best bike upgrades and add-ons.
@crosstrainingenduro

hope they keep your ankles safe, bill. despite saying in the vid these pegs aren't for everyone, there are a few young dicks saying these footpegs are useless.... some of them will no doubt change their tune in a few decades time lol.

I enjoy all your reviews whether I agree with them or not. Being a horse rider as well, I ride all the time on the ball of my feet and I'm a firm believer that having the ankle free to move up and down it provides elasticity, better balance and control over your position (I did watch your other video about foot position on the peg, too). A proper, balanced position is having the ear, shoulder, hip and the back of the heel aligned in a vertical line, the chin up and look far ahead. The heel very little lower then the ball of the feet will add extra weight on the peg and keeps firm the lower body in position while allowing the upper body to follow freely the move of the horse or the bike. It is really fun to apply to a discipline what you've learned from another and to see that it works or, to put it differently, cross training skills :) Happy New Year!

very interesting, calin! i hear downhill cyclists share a lot of common skills with dirt riding, and it happens with horses too... all the best for 2019!

I overextended my ankle casing a jump. I know I’m supposed to move my foot up when that happens but I didn’t think of that in the 0.5 seconds I knew I was going to come up short. These pegs look pretty cool might have to try some sometime

I try to ride on the balls of my feet, but its hard due to an accident i had a few years ago, leaving my ankle weak. I had no idea these where a thing, thank you so much! I shall have to give these a go. I am also quite tall, and find my '89 xt 350 a bit small, maybe it will help with that too
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 6 лет назад
not sure if these would help that much though as the rear section is dropped a little.... it's not meant to be used for support in your normal riding position but only to protect your ankles when the flex too much. as per the vid i put the big cleats on the rear section so i CAN let my ankles flex a bit and use them for support when i'm tired but they aren't really designed for that.
@Bovrinox
@Bovrinox 6 лет назад
Well the main problem i have is that my tendons (Achilles tendon specifically) have stiffened and shortened, reducing the movement in my ankle, especially upwards . I find when landing a bit heavy or hitting a large bump, it can bend my ankle too far and hurt, im hoping it may stop this being such a problem? Currently undergoing physio for it, but its a slow process! Also, I do wear proper boots, Oneals i believe they are. This helps a lot
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 6 лет назад
i these could help a lot in that case.... or at least prevent the bending before it's starting to risk an injury.

I have a set of the Gen 1 Ankle Savers on my 2008 CRF450R. It's true, you don't even know they are there. Moreover, even when I case a jump hard I still don't notice them. The only thing I do notice is... I'm not about to pull off the track because my ankle feels like it might be broken. So yeah! I guess they work. They look like they would hinder with the kick start but it's a clean stroke.

Hi Barry, I'm 6'5" w/ boots on, 255lbs riding a 2011 yz450. Would you recommend the EXT or EVO4? I saw both vids but not sure which you prefer. I mostly look forward to the low setting of both. Is the ankle saver feature worth the extra $100? I ask bc I know my kickstarter will hit it, which you may have not experienced w/ the electric start of the KTM... Thanks in advance mate! Keep up the great work.

I broke my ankle requiring 5 plates and a dozen screws. It was due to landing a jump on the balls of my feet. Not even a big jump. These foot pegs were something I really wanted to get afterwards. I have CR500's and cant use them because the kick starter hits them. Now that I got a Beta with electric start, I'm gonna get a set of these. I recommend them to anyone not requiring a kick starter. Would have saved me thousands of dollars and about 6 months off work. I was wearing Fox Instinct boots. They didn't save me.
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 6 лет назад
that's a bummer on the boots, zfrilly. i go cheap on my riding gear where i can but i never skimp on boots. even after 300 rides my old sidi crossfires still had the same amount of flex/stiffness just as they were when new and do a lot to prevent that sort of injury... but the pegs are a great backup and guarantee. :)

I have used 2 pairs of Fox Instinct boots and just switched to Crossfire 2. The Sidi boots are hands down a better built boot. Both pairs of instinct boots lasted very little before having problems. I even took the second pair to a boot cobbler to have them repaired because they lasted about 4 rides before the strap stitching was failing. I Sidi boots have lasted so far about 10 rides with zero issues. They broke in quickly and fit great! Not sure what you mean as far as grip stands up, but both seem to suck for walking, they offer no grip. Sidi does have enduro boot soles available for the Crossfire SRS. They would be great.
@jeffc.5597
@jeffc.5597 6 лет назад
zfrilly I was using the comp 5 fox off-road and they have lasted maybe 30 rides but the sole pattern is very grippy and great for walking around. I wanted a higher quality boot but I also wear a men's 14 so I need a large boot.

Get the Crossfire SRS and order the enduro soles. They bolt/screw on. You will not be disappointed.

Hi and thanks for all the instructive videos. I've learned heaps in just a few days. I have a question though. 30 years after selling my last XR I recently went for a ride with a friend and was instantly hooked again. Grins from ear to ear for days. Anyway, I immediately shot down to my local Honda dealer (because this is what I know) and impulse bought a CRF250R second hand. Since then I've done a bit of research and found this is probably not the best choice for the style of riding I will be doing (trail and cross country) so I will be making a few mods like the fly wheel. My main issue at the moment is the clutch which might as well be an on/off switch. The shop told me it was replaced about 2 riding hours ago and is essentially brand new so I am wondering if this is normal for an MX style bike and if there is a way to give it a bit more play? What are the options?

Well the butt hurt clan seemed to come out for this one. I like the idea of having a bit of extra support on the bike, I may not need these yet as my skills as at a level that would make a novice gumby laugh but down the road they will be a nice edition to the tuscan beauty.

lol yes certain vids bring out the butt hurt clan. at times i wonder if they even watch the vid as they whine about something that's been addressed in the vid... as a rule the younger viewers are, the more opinionated, close minded and irrational they get. not always true of course but man my life would be easier if you had to be over 18 to watch these vids. :)

@robsonenduro3316 6 лет назад
I don't like it, after a bump or jump you ankles have to flex to absorb the impact just as they would when you normally jump when walking or running. Your legs are extension of your bike suspension. Better improve you riding positions and stay fit so your legs can work as designed...
@pritchert2799
@pritchert2799 6 лет назад
Yeah because getting fit can stop you from breaking your ankles after you overjump or cause a huge triple right?
@xterrential
@xterrential 6 лет назад
You didn't know that?
@robsonenduro3316
@robsonenduro3316 6 лет назад
Wear a condom as well, just in case you overshoot with some girl - LOL silly argument, first don't jump if you don't know how -second, if you over jump you will go over handlebars dude so your ankles are the last to worry about.
@pritchert2799
@pritchert2799 6 лет назад
+Robson Enduro plenty of people know how to jump correctly including me. Let’s say for example you are trying to hit a new double that you’ve never done before and you have no one to speed check. You obviously don’t wanna case it so you might give it more gas then you need to and overjump it. And if your feet are on the pegs where they’re supposed to be, you have a chance of breaking your ankles. And I don’t know how many times you’ve overjumped but whenever I have I never went over the bars
@utahdesertrider1806

as per the vid, i think there are some situations these could be useful pegs but for others it would just be useless (and weird looking) bling. agreed though on the need to move feet all the time but a problem for us older guys, or those with ankle problems, is sometimes you get caught hitting something hard while on the balls of your feet.

Youve GOT to dance on your footpegs, you dont just stand on the balls of your feet and call it a day. Its one of the absolute biggest differences between correct riding technique and not having a clue. Understand it and everything else falls into place. These type of footpegs are silly and will ruin any progress in a similar way as stegpegz. Rediculous invention for the clueless and gullible.

"correct riding technique"
@xterrential
@xterrential 6 лет назад
Not everyone is 18 anymore. Older riders may like having the extra support. I am 33 so I wouldnt get these yet but if I was 55 and had old sore ankles they may be a helpful addition to my riding enjoyment. Of course technique is key but alot of people have passed the point of no return with their ability to be like graham jarvis.
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 6 лет назад
skids n stuff, this is your second comment along these lines and your view is pretty typical of young kids... you have next to no idea of how aging affects your riding and you just assume your world view should apply to everyone. i've been very careful to outline in this vid who these footpegs might apply to, you should do the same with your comments and not be too narrow minded or ready to dump shit on other's opinions.
@xterrential
@xterrential 6 лет назад
Kids these days...although he did say these were good for the clueless. Maybe they would be good for him after all😉
@SKIDSnSTUFF
@SKIDSnSTUFF 6 лет назад
When a channel is called "enduro skills" and people are looking to it for technique tips, many of which are top notch btw... its just a shame to see these gadgets touted as a shortcut... especially so because footpegs and stegpegz are in the area of the bike which plays such a massive part to correct riding position (the base of every other technique on this channel). So yeh, i just chuck these comments in to maybe keep that in mind. I understand all your points.
