Megan, I thank you for making these videos! I also appreciate your demeanor, & personality! My favorite part, besides finding a cute ‘fat-quarter’ pattern, was watching you quilt. I’ve got to get to the quilting part! I’ve a basket with 13 quilts, or pieced fronts. I’ve straight line quilted two, but have a bunch waiting for my skills to improve. Thanks for the instructions!
Gotta say, I enjoy watching you work so much, Megan! You're realistic and your disposition is just pleasant. The quilts you make are easy for all and lovely. Thank you for sharing what you're working on with the rest of us.
Thank you so much for watching and leaving such a sweet comment! I really do enjoy making the videos :) I really valued RU-vid videos when I was learning and I’m so happy to fill that for someone else :)
Thanks so much for watching this video! I had a lot of fun making this quilt. If you'd like to subscribe to the channel, be sure to click the red subscribe button! I really enjoyed this video. I’m new at quilting and love mods fabrics. I’m doing a wonky log cabin and a Manx log cabin currently. I’m Sandi doing a crumb quilt with leftover pieces and a card trick block.
Ripping certainly isnt any fun but it is all part of the process! I try to leave in some of those moments so hopefully people wont have my same mistakes! I also remember watching quilting videos when I was a new quilter and everybody seemed unachievably perfect! I certainly want to make people of all skill levels welcome :)
Super fun! Thank you for all you do! I’m doing 3 Halloween quilts for my grandbabies and this just gave me a great idea for one!! Woohoo....I’m doing a crazy quilt for another and I think a string one for the 3rd.
Thank you! I’m so glad I can include the quilting and finishing now! It’s my favorite part of the process and I love having the finished thing to show everyone :)
Your videos are so amazing. I wanted to thank you for all of the inspiration as I am new to sewing and quilting as of January. As soon as I finish the quilt I’m working on now, I will definitely try this pattern! Keep up the great work and the wonderful videos!
That would be adorable!! Plaid is such a fun fall & winter kind of pattern and it would look so festive in some wintery/holiday prints! I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)
That would be a great inspiration for colors! I’m terrible at putting colors together without a reference to guide me and a kilt would be an awesome place to start.
Thank you!! I love fat quarters as well! And I love a pattern that tries to use up as much as possible from them so there isn’t a ton of scraps leftover :)
I love your videos! This pattern is so great. Thank you for using fat quarters! It what I enjoy buying & find it hard to find patterns I like. This pattern is great because I have some large and small prints in my bundle & this is a great way to showcase those larger prints. Thanks again!
You are so welcome! This bundle I used had some nice big prints-as well as some directional prints so it was nice to keep some big pieces and have everything go the same way! :)
I love peppered/shot cotton -- great idea to use it for the back! It would be a great choice for the front of this design, too. Thanks for another great pattern and a good round of inspiration, Megan.
I love this quilt. I want to make it for my husband who has a chronic lung disease and is currently being assessed for lung transplant. I would like to make the quilt for him to have in hospital, in the event that he is given the gift of new lungs. I have a beautiful bundle of 100% woven cotton fat quarters which will make a beautiful plaid quilt, but I am not at all familiar with using wovens. Would you be able to do a tutorial on quilting with woven cotton? Thank you, Megan, so much for your very practical and educational videos.
Hi Megan, Oh My Goodness, you have read my mind as I have been wanting to make a plaid quilt!!! I Love Both fabric and placement choices you have made 💖👍💜 and the quilting designs as well. 💗👏🥰 Thank you for sharing your designs and details. Have a wonderful two weeks, 💗 Chris-Raleigh NC
Thanks, Chris! :). I'm so glad you liked it--I'd been wanting to make a plaid quilt as well but I didn't want to do too much fussy cutting and fabric placement :). This was the answer!
I just found you on RU-vid! I’ve watched three videos so far. Totally LOVE your style of modern quilts and your presentation skills. Thanks so much! Back to binge watching your channel.
The quilt behind you at the start of the video is AMAZING. I love plaid but see the result more as an homage to German Bauhaus and more particularly the geometric art of Josef Albers. Really love the pattern. Might be because I love Albers too. Haha.
Thank you!! I’ll definitely check out the artists. When I was younger, I never paid much attention to art but I’m really finding a lot of enjoyment in it as I get older. Maybe I just needed some time to get some appreciation :)
Thanks Megan. Love the quilt. Downloaded it and sent in a tip! I bought 16 FQs yesterday. In order to reduce confusion on my part I plan on stacking three at a time and keeping those groupings together. For every stack of three fabrics I'll have three squares. It seems like that's going to leave me with one orphan 16th fabric and not enough fabric for the two other accent colors for a 16th block. Am I missing something?
If I remember right, you'll have groupings of three and one grouping of four colors to swap. Or you can do the entire stack of 16 as one group and just swap the bars/small squares in one giant stack.
Thank you! I really enjoy making the videos and I'm glad it comes through :). I make my labels on an embroidery machine and then hand stitch them on the back. Its a lot faster than a hand embroidered label :)
Just watched the "plaid Halloween" video. I watch you on youtube on TV, so where online will I find the pattern you reference or other materials mentioned.
This is so cute! Omg it's so ready and makes a total "not easy" look. Love it. And p.s. I think you look great in the deep red lipstick. I love your videos and I will def share this with my buddies.
I can’t believe I missed that!! 😂 there’s always something, I guess! It’s about 60x66. I’ll update the pdf this evening when I’m at the computer :) sorry about that!
I can not Get any of the patterns to add to the cart after I log into website, when I say add to cart, nothing shows in my cart. Any help is appreciated. Just now got error message 404 pg not found.for plaid quilt. Have tried this over the last few days. I love these patterns . Please help
I have never quilted before but this quilt looks like a lot of fun and not to easy to do. I know you said you need 16 fat-quarter, but how many different different model-fabric do you need? Thank you!
I know this is off topic, but what size plastic bags do you use to store your fabric in your carts? I couldn’t tell if they were one gallon, two gallon or larger. They looked a lot bigger than a gallon bag. Especially, for the 2.5 strips. And, I’m using my sons I-Pad. 😁. My name is April. Thank you.
I have a mix but they are mostly the ikea bags. They are really nice and thick plastic so they last a long time without tearing. I use mostly the 6.5 liter-the biggest ones! Some of the smaller things like crumbs are in gallon size ziplocks.
Are the rulers you used from Quilted Pineapple? And where do you get your pantographs from? I have seen a few that are very linear and I wasn’t a fan, but this one looks amazing!
They are from the quilted pineapple. I love her rulers because you can use both sides and get the same curve! The pantograph is from urban elementz and it’s called “Gotham”. I was actually using one on a quilt this week and it’s all straight lines and I can’t believe how much harder it is!
I went to do this with a Beetlejuice fq bundle I have and realized my pattern is oriented so that the stripes go vertical when the fq is horizontal. So cutting it with the pattern would have my pattern going horizontally and not vertically. Would it work if I scaled the pattern down to get 2 blocks out of each FQ and had 32 blocks instead of 16? Just a thought, I really love this design and want to use it for this!!
Sure! You can change the dimensions to suit your fabric-you could even make the stripes/square bits different. It’s really just the basic idea and swapping the layers of fabrics that is the heart of the design. :)
Thanks! It really did go together quickly once I really got into the piecing! I used 108" backing for both of them and it took about 2 yards. If you wanted to use regular 42" fabric, you'd need 4 and have a seam down the back :). For the batting, I used warm and natural for the halloween version and then the quilter's dream wool for the solids version--it is so delightfully puffy! :)
I'm getting ready to do this quilt, but I have a question...when you put the fq in groups of three for your halloween version how do you account that 3 doesn't go into 16? I'm just a little confused.
You can stack them into larger stacks whenever necessary. I think I had one stack of 4 since three didn’t go into 16 nicely. For the solid version, I did one stack of 16.
I have a Handi Quilter Simply 16. I like it a lot but I do wish I had bought a machine with a larger throat space. By the time you account for the bars at the back of the machine (the ones the quilt rolls onto), its really closer to 13" than 16". The mechanics and everything is great through! I don't have any problems with tension or those kind of issues I hear a lot of people complain about.
I second that! When I first started, it seemed like I would never reach the limitations of my machine size and speed but here I am! I wish I would have gone just a little bigger so I wasn’t faced with the upgrade dilemma.
@@gaylescott4797 I don’t have computer on mine. I mainly want to do free motion and pantographs. Honestly, I’m just thrilled I’m finally getting my tops quilted. 8 down a bunch to go. Lol.
Thank you for the free pattern. I need to change my email and address. I tried but I have to create an account before I can do that. Is there any other way I could update my email and address ? Again, thank you 😊
The longarm rulers? These are from quilted pineapple: www.thequiltedpineapple.com/ I really like them because you get the same curve if you stitch on the outside or inside of the ruler--it makes it a lot easier to use :)
I've used a double layer of batting (one cotton and one wool) once. The quilt looks great but it was quite a hassle to quilt since the quilt was so thick I had to really push down with the rulers. Quilting double batting like that really densely does make it pretty stiff. I haven't ever used double wool though--the quilters dream wool is already quite thick, I don't even know if two layers would easily fit under my longarm needle! :)
Oh no! I’m sorry I am just getting back to you. If yiu can’t find it on my website (tinyorchardquilts.com), you can email me Megan at tinyorchardquilts.com and I can just send it to you!
I did! I stitched them out on an embroidery machine. It goes pretty quickly and then I don’t have to worry about ink fading over the years. I love a hand embroidered label but I don’t have time to do that for all my quilts :)
