Fat, unfit and over 50, can I climb Roseberry Topping?
Attempting to burn off the Christmas excess I foolishly agreed to climb Roseberry Topping, after all it is just a hill, it's not a mountain or anything! How hard can it be....watch and find out how unfit this fat lad is!

Hi Andy, lovely to see the little Robin. Nice hike through the woods. It looked a bit slippy in places. Well done on not ending up on your backside - or falling over the edge! 👍That was quite a climb. Congrats on getting to the top and seeing those lovely views ❤

Thanks for watching ladies. The way down was worse (we took a different route), muddier, and more people, we say several go over, and I nearly went down twice. As you said, great views, though. Have a great weekend.

Brilliant Andy. Hats off to you mate. Not easy to vlog at the same time as staying upright. Hope the way down wasn’t to treacherous. Great photos too. Have a good weekend. Catch you at the reservoir. 👍🏻🚶🏻‍♂️🚶‍♀️

Thanks for watching Julie and Tony. It was a hard slog up. That bench was very welcome for the 5 minutes we got to rest. There are easier routes, apparently, but even this route was easier than the steps.

No problem at all, I am fat, a bit fit (ish) and 70 next year, so if I can do it, you will run it up :o). Up the nose is the best way to test your fitness but the walk through the woods is always nice at any time of the year but it's stunning when the bluebells are out. Looking at that muddy path I may be wearing my wellington boots when we go to the reservoir. The times I have gone there with Mrs Metalman and we have walked to Captain Cooks Monument, we turned left at the woods and you get a lot gentler way up and around Roseberry Topping with a small up around the back. To be honest, fair play to you for not only giving it a go but getting to the summit too, not the biggest but not as easy as a lot of people think, so well done! Despite the gloomy weather you got some great shots at the end, cheers Alan
@OutandaboutwithAndy
@OutandaboutwithAndy 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for watching Alan. As a 1st timer and watching a few videos I knew the direct route was going to be hard work and not particularly pretty. With my photographer's hat on I wanted to check out the shooting box location so that was part of the reason for going through the woods but seeing all the wildlife was a bonus too. I think I definitely need some poles before I tackle something like this again, it was murder on my knees coming down.

Well done for reaching the summit. Hell of a climb! We did it in a heatwave a few years back. Like you, I’m ok on the flat but struggle on the inclines. Glad RU-vid suggested your channel this morning. 😀 We love nature walks. As most of my channel is walks in Suffolk, hills are rarely a problem! But we love going up to the Lake District, Yorkshire, Northumberland, so we do get our fix of hills occasionally. Love your channel. You have a new subscriber! ☑️ 🙂👍

Thanks for watching and subscribing, I'll be checking out your channel too. To be polite, I'll say I'm not built for hills 😀a flat walk is much easier for me. We do an awful lot of walking on holiday but less in the UK. I'm hoping to change that along with my passion for photography and vlogging.

Thanks, Yasmin. From a distance, it doesn't look too bad. It's not that high, but as you say, it does get steep in parts. Nick's route from Great Ayton sounds much easier. Hi Andy, looked a tad muddy on the way but thankfully was a bit drier the closer to the summit you got. Oh and thankfully you didn't slip over the edge. It looked good fun and the views from the top whilst not super clear weren't too bad. I need to get out soon myself. Nice one 👍Paul

Totally interesting & absorbing video Andy & very well done m8, it looked far from easy but must of been helped by such marvellous scenery, its something I need to really get into when I've had my knee replacement but probably starting on something less strenuous, hence the flat east coast landscape I have chosen for my August jollyberries, on the photos at the end of the video one that struck my eye was the rather strange looking tree, a brilliant image for sure, looking 4ward to your next video already Andy 👍😁
@OutandaboutwithAndy
@OutandaboutwithAndy 6 месяцев назад
Thanks, Andy. It was definitely a strenuous hike. A seasoned hiker I follow, who has tacked many fells and mountains, rates it as a tough one. Yes, the tree is an unusual shape. I plan to return some time and bring along a camera for some landscape images.

Great video Andy. First time we did it I was 20 stone and very unfit. Did it by the direct route, can remember sitting in the car park looking at it psyching me out for well over an hour. Stopped several times. Ive now climbed it hundreds of time. Mostly from Great Ayton (free parking) and it’s a very gradual 2 mile ascent to the summit, no steep bits that way. Lovely shots! ♥️
@OutandaboutwithAndy
@OutandaboutwithAndy 6 месяцев назад
Wow, I can't ever imagine you being 20 stone, Nick. Free parking sounds great - it costs a fair bit in the car park. I must admit I did like this route because of the wildlife and I wanted to take some images with the shooting box and the topping behind it. The mud I could do without - it was worse on the way down as we took the direct route. Cheers for watching.

@@OutandaboutwithAndythe final part of the approach from Great Ayton passes the shooting box, its a gentle route that goes up Cliff Ridge Wood to come out on top of the steep Newton Wood you ascended through.
