The south the bigger region with more actual cities and without the politics, Atlanta, Miami, Tampa,Jacksonville, Memphis, the Carolinas, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, Baton Rouge all with they own flavors..
@@hitek9too255The Carolinas and Virginia are original Southern colonies and Dirty South. Most Southerners can trace roots to those states and Georgia. There is no NC, SC, VA, MD alliance. All of those states do their own thang and are the South. Maryland is a stretch. Maybe rural Maryland.

I’m from the South and the south ain’t runnin nothin no mo. The rap game is a free for all these days. Atlanta ain’t poppin like it used to. You got some of the old timers from there still lingering on but their movement kinda slowed down over the years. You got more artists from MEMPHIS coming out and it’s a beautiful thing. Wouldn’t say the city got the whole thing on smash. It ain’t the 90’s no more where the east and west got all the shine. As a southerner we’ll probably never care what the people from those areas are doing as a whole again. They shouldn’t care what’s going on in the south either.🤷🏾♂️
Their lack of a growing population and piss poor production means the east coast must pay attention to whatever the south is doing. ….they don’t have a choice.

The demographics for hip hop was once 15-35. Then Nelly dropped one of the goofiest albums of all time(in my opinion) This lowered the age demographics and lowered the bar to even be a professional rapper. The flood gates were now open for dudes that didn’t have industry level talent, to get in. The south took heed ,ran with it and hip hop has been goofy af ever Sense.

The south thinks of things in terms of “the south vs north vs the west”. NYC doesn’t view itself as “the east coast”. Yes, it’s a city on the eastern coast of the country but we don’t clique up with other states to represent a region. Shit. More times it be Harlem VS Brooklyn. There definitely isn’t a greater East coast entity

I definitely prefer old school East Coast Hip Hop; Big Pun, Jeru, Large Professor, Pete Rock, The Roots, Big L, Mobb Deep, Queen Latifah, Ed OG, Philly Youngstas, EPMD, AZ, Black Thought, DITC, Fat Joe, Rakim Allah, Melle Mel, J-Live, etc over southern rap and garbage Chicago drill(especially).

I didn't respect them as lyricists. I did like "No Limit Soldiers," though. That was a banger and a fight starter in the clubs. Then in the '00s, I was totally turned off to most mainstream rap. I went heavy underground. I didn't like none of that Laffy Taffy shit or Nelly or even Jay Z and Nas anymore like that. Kanye and 50 were cool, but I was mostly bumpin' backpackers.

Im from the South and i think the Midwest is controlling the game now. Its there sound and style thats running the game now. No region has its own style but them. So they in control right now
