Father Ted writer Graham Linehan says his online campaign against what he calls ‘trans rights activists’ has made him the ‘most hated man on the internet’. Subscribe to our channel here: goo.gl/31Q53F
The creator of the much-loved sitcom Father Ted says his views on trans rights have cost him work.
Linehan’s vociferous arguing online, including comparing treatment of gender dysphoric children to Nazi experimentation, makes him a very divisive figure in a debate already marked by toxicity and anger.
Linehan says he is speaking up for women who are being harassed and intimidated, but critics have accused him of being a transphobe abusing a vulnerable minority.
Currently, if someone wishes to have their gender identity legally recognised, they have to apply for a Gender Recognition Certificate - which requires a medical diagnosis as well as proof of having lived in that gender for two years.
Some argue the medical element should be removed and say there should be a system of gender recognition based on self-identification.
Sarah Smith interviews Graham Linehan in the studio and challenges him on the way he has conducted himself amidst the debate.
Newsnight is the BBC's flagship news and current affairs TV programme - with analysis, debate, exclusives, and robust interviews.

Same as the Cathy Newman style of "interview" of Peterson on Channel4. @@BadgerMcblasty Hi Badger, the closure has not identified anything specific with regards to "unsafe clinical working practices" therefore, the nurses and doctors and all the healthcare professionals should not be made to feel as though the work they have done has been bad, it is absolutely not the case and there is evidence to contradict the closure of the clinic in adolescents growing up and actually taking a positive outcome from their time at the GIDS. The clinic closed prematurely as the healthcare model was deemed "unsafe" because more research is needed on the effects of puberty blockers and other services that the GIDS gave, but what's ridiculous about this is that when prescribing and when giving treatment, it is always research and a work in progress because every single patient is different. What good is it in closing a whole clinic down solely because something needs updating, surely it would have been safer to keep the clinic open and hasten any changes that were going to be put into effect come 2023 as opposed to leaving the trans community, adolescents and adults alike wondering what will happen to their treatment in the future once the clinic closes. Dr Cass has a fair bit of work to do and to actually answer for when compiling the next stage of her report.

What the f@ck is that?! If you come to my party I would make sure you enjoy it, because this is what a party is suppose to be. The point of an national journalist interviewer is to ask pertinent questions and listening carefully to the answers of their invited guests. Secondly, no matter your beliefs on the subject, watching this and thinking it was well done, it's a failure on your understanding of what democracy is. It is democracy that gave LGBT the ability to voice up, without democracy there would be no "coming out", no law to protect this minority, but only shame and pain for them because they fail to be "normal" like the majority of the population. This kind of interview only increases the hate that some people have for the LGBT community. If democracy starts vary on the circumstances and who speaks, this can backfire with extreme violence... in the street. It is the same reason why you will find some looters among the BLM. It is the same reason why crime against LGBT are increasing. And thirdly, speaking with arguments is more fruitful than turning your back and call people names juste because they don't agree with you. Your sayings and your actions are contributing to make this world a worst or better place to live in. I wish you well.

I'm not being silly the accusations with anything being wrong with hormone blockers is something I have failed to find and I have done alot of searching on this issue. Most studies find that of taken off hormone blockers the child will have Thier puberty then. If your refering to hormone replacement therapy which you maybe then yes there are obviously effects there however that is only after the age of 16 and after 12 months of blockers and numerous phycological examinations

I've watched a few of these "interviews" on the BBC around this topic. Appalling! The purpose of an interview is to allow dialogue. What I find disturbingly shocking is that an adult and possibly a parent can think it acceptable for a 4 year old to have a discussion on gender identity!! I'm from South Africa and we do have discussions around these topics here. It does seem that the powers that be, as well as the MSM in your neck of the woods have gone completely mental. Ben What I hate about the Liberal-Leftist Elite is that they have the monopoly (in their own minds) about what is allowed to be said. It doesn’t matter what the subject is about, if you disagree with or challenge their “beliefs” which ultimately they would like to force us to adopt, they immediately give you a label - homophobe, racist, misogynist..... No ifs or buts, if you dare to have your own opinion you will be given the label that they deem fit. So here’s one that will almost certainly make them allocate me a label: I don’t understand the whole thing about non-binary gender perception but, if someone genuinely believes they are neither then that is their prerogative but should the rest of the world have to “adjust” to their thinking? Sam Smith is a classic case - first he came out as gay and now he is neither a man nor a woman in his mind. From the outside of his world he’s a man who is gay. Inside his world he wishes to be known as “they”. Does that refer to him and her as a non-binary couple living in the same brain because when I was at school “they” referred to the plural of ‘person’.

Interviewers these days do not want to hear a question answered. Rather, their goal is to try and bend words, control what replys are, and put the guest in a position where the interviewer looks like they know their stuff. Invariably they cut off answers, shout people down and ask a question in several different ways to get the sound bit they want. BBC are terrible. We pay licensing, yet personally never watch BBC.

Yet many of the men who support women's rights also wish to legislate away your right to choose. I've always been a defender of women, but I have also defended the rights of trans people, which I fail to see a conflict between the two. Most gay people know they're gay as very young children, though they may not possess the wherewithal to articulate the feeling. I, then, don't see how one might feel one's inhabiting the wrong gender from a young age.

Jazz was deemed by his parents to want to be a girl because he liked being dressed as a girl and doing 'girlie' activities and was started on puberty blockers when he was a child before fully transitioning medically into a trans woman as a teenager, when he said to his parents things would be better when he married and had children, none of the adults who had made the decisions for him told him he will never have children if he transitioned they obviously didn't think that was an important issue
