As a 9 year old boy, I would walk down to Fats Domino's house to look at all his cars out front of his house, especially that beautiful pink Cadillac Eldorado with the gold plated everything on it. I painting a picture of his house with the pink Cadillac in front, went to his house nervous, but determined to show him my artwork... he told me he loved it, when inside and came back with $100 bill. As a 9 year old, I was on top the world, not so much about the money, but that Fats Domino had my artwork on his wall. -Dr. Merlin V. Brown
When any one post a video and mention Elvis, I wish they stop posting that Elvis was the king of rocking roll.Because he was not. Elvis and jerry Lee louse and the rolling stones, also the Beatles learned and copy everything from black people.
literally everyone knows this - it's the basic story of rock and roll - rock invented by black people in the deep south and grew from there - then people like Elvis jumped on the band wagon and brought that music to a wider/white audience ... congratulations - you just discovered what everybody already knew!!! they literally taught this in schools back in the 80s and 90s - EVERYONE KNOWS THIS 'truth' ALREADY ;)
My dad absolutely loved your grandmas cousin( I’m from Scotland) your grandmas cousin was extremely talented .. my dad’s favourite song is Blueberry Hill
@@lisaainsworth3 He was nice.... incredibly humble. She moved to Los Angeles and if he was touring he'd stop by. I was a little guy then. He was just another relative who would occasionally visit from Louisiana. He always sent her whatever record he had coming out. But in his older age he didn't want to leave New Orleans. He rarely did. But I remember my Grandfather passed and he sent the more beautiful arrangement of flowers to his wake. He was extremely talented but thoughtful.
Fats Domino was the favorite artist of Julia Lennon, John Lennon’s mother. Teenage John and his mom used to dance into the night to Fats Domino’s records. ❤
I'm almost 84 white woman and I have loved Fats Domino since the very first time I heard him and I still do. He was an awesome entertainer!!!With a beautiful personality!!! He is missed greatly !!!❤❤❤
He was around when I was a little girl and I am seven y three now and I used to dance to his music when I was a little girl and new jersey on the streets with my friends
Fats is from my city new orleans i have a music back ground i knew some musicians who played with fats this a great video on him he was one of the great artist of his time thank you for this great video bio.
Fats is one of my all time favorite. Love his his music. I would love for you to do a video on " The Original Original Queen of Rhythm and Blues," RUTH BROWN.
What a fantastic artist. I saw him in the 1980s at The Winter Gardens in Blackpool, England. It was just like listening to the records, he was that good.
Sweet man. I met him when he played for the grand opening of the Louisiana Lottery in the Superdome. Whenever I'm in the neighborhood (I live in New Orleans) I make it a point to stop at his grave. He's at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in New Orleans along with Allen Toussaint and Professor Longhair. Three of the many great musicians from New Orleans.
As a boy..the great Fata Domino would perform part of his concert in a country/rural place call manchester down in Jamaica WI.he had some Jamaica Chinese friends right there in the town, they had a music store business ,you could actually see this great legend fats Domino sitting right there labrishing with his friends,a sight to behold, the legend having fun with friends he had abroad..those were the days..
It is something I personally know about from my playing with Stacey Henry and the Majestics. We occasionally played with Fats as the dance band at either Fort Belvoir or Ft. Myers near Washington DC. And yes Black stars had a problem with not being able to stay at White Motels. And in fact Stacy's dinner room was full of pictures of Star that stayed at his house. In the Dinning room from the floor to the ceiling on all 4 walks. And many of Stacy's band member went on to play with big acts. Just google it his son who hung up under us made a website. We played behind a multitude of acts until 1975.then disco killed live bands.
Such a legend He’s the first artist to have the same record hit number one twice on the Billboard hot 100. ‘Blueberry Hill’ the second is ‘Come See About Me’ by the Supremes and the third in 1982 was ‘Abracadabra’ by Steve Miller.
RIP🤴🏽🕊️NOLA’s finest.🥰Great person and a decent human being. I’m proud to see a street named for him and pass there every time I go home.🥰A true legend but so underrated.😢☮️❤️🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿💐💐💐💐👏🏾👏🏾
How can this man be underrated when he sold more songs than Elvis Presley. White people loved him...he was underrated by black people and he was a very decent man sticking to one woman until death❤
@@elizabethjames213 I meant by the music(awards) industry. I don’t know how old you are but I grew up in NOLA and I remember how others would sing his songs and get more praise from the industry. It wasn’t until later that he got a Lifetime Grammy in 1986, that the industry took notice. By then he’d been doing music over 30 years. As for his marriage, I never commented and didn’t feel I needed to. When I stated he was a GREAT person and decent human I meant in every way. BTW I’m a black person AND a NOLA native and we’ve always been proud of him. That’s why I said underrated because he deserved more musical accolades than he received.
@@spaceghost8995 Look here Karen; it appears that you're a Elvis fan boy and one of them people who: can't handle the truth, so just pull your skibbies up and go sit back down in the corner till someone calls you...
@@LetitGolazziter-uk9xi I watched the whole video because of the title...and I'm from Louisiana...See what people do for views... Everything in the video I knew...I'm 51 yrs old but nothing about the daughter confirming nothing...
Here's a professional suggestion. Don't add computer film scratches to archival video tape. Not only is it a misrepresentation, it's a distraction. On another note, wouldn't be a fair conclusion that "Chubby Checker" took his name from Fats Domino? Seems so.
Young people today haven’t really been taught how devastating racism was for people of color back then, especially the darker ones. One such devastation that comes to mind is how the older folks spoke indignantly of Domino trying to move into the 7th Ward. For those unaware and twisting the truth, the infamous 7th Ward was home to lighter French Creoles and due to Domino’s dark skin he was refused when he tried to buy a home there so he built a beautiful home in the 9th ward. The other truism is that he cooked his own meals because the hotels didn’t provide food for black entertainers and/or if they did Domino would’ve had to eat in the kitchen with the hotel help. Next truism is that he was never given a KEY to the city like other entertainers. Last, after Katrina it was found he lived with one of his daughters in l believe New Jersey until he could return home to New Orleans ⚜️
Fat Domino was one of the most greatest Pianos players in 55, he could plays that piano like body cames from a nother world. I never forget Mr Fat Domino. People in my age, knows all about The Fat Domino, because he were the black man who the younger generation just went wilderness over his music and singing. All of my classmates , just enjoying dancing from that man musical piano. Thanks you for bringing him up on the video.❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😢🎉🎉😢😮😊😊😊
THE BLACK KINGS OF ROCK AND ROLL. FATS DOMINO CHUCK BERRY LITTLE RICHARD JACKIE WILSON. 😊😊😊😊 THERE WERE MANY GROUP SINGERS THAT WERE GREAT. MANY WOMEN SINGERS THAT WERE QUEENS. RACISM CAUSED A LOT OF CONFUSION DURING THOSE YEARS TO THE PRESENT NOW. SAD SAD SAD SAD SAD 😢.
The fact that he had to drop out of school in the 4th grade so he was behind in his grades he probably wasn't no more than 12 years old black people had to go to the fields and work in the fields in Mississippi Louisiana Alabama all those places it was just the most black people had to do we didn't have the resources we made the best of what we had and the fact that we had a mom and a daddy in the house had families that before the 60s got here and American government changed the Rules so right there he validated that we was really living on little or nothing in America the black people the children of the African Black Slaves we are still working against the side effects of slavery we really need the American government to give is living off the resources of black people in America and around this world but they do not want us to go home to our African Continent
