Excellent work dude! Those Toyota alarm systems are a gigantic pain in the butt! Getting ride of it and beating it's complexity must be very satisfying.
DO NOT JUMP THE YELLOW WIRE TO OTHERS IN THE HARNESS! Yellow is a connection to the ignition switched on. If that is jumped to other wires you will short other things out. There is a Orange wire off of the alarm the gives a ground when armed which is connected to a starter disable relay usually close to the ignition switch. If you just cut the orange wire the van would have started...

Also check for loose battery cables. I had a loose negative cable causing similar symptoms and randomness. Before replacing the starter motor or the alarm, remove the cables, clean the connections where the cables touch the battery negative and positive poles and make sure they are put back tight on the battery so you have a good clean metal to metal connection.
I'm thinking the same is happening with my Astro van. I had a K5 Blazer and a Sedan deville that this happened in. Only a buddy of mine took care of it for me. Yup, it's either this or a bad ignition switch itself. Now that I have some time, I'm gonna get on that. Thanks Brother.
Just an incorrectly installed alarm-keyless entry aftermarket box worth about $40 on eBay. You most likely would have found; had you locked the van with the keyfob then tried to start the van it would have started. These are the best Vans every created.
hahah Car Pool with Tom Arnold you're talkin about? Man, I'm gonna have to download that now that you've brought it up. That was a Previa in that wasnt it. Thats funny. Unbeliavable they'd even allow a Toyota in a major motion picture.
Your friend? As in someone your age has to drive a Toyota Previa? Sweet Mercy. That poor kid. These were horrendous to work on. Luckily only a handful of people weren't actually embarassed to drive them in public. They had SuperCharged AWD versions of these, that were about as common as the regular ones at my dealership. I always found that hilarious. "SuperCharged AWD Mini Van!" Wicked.
Mr. Daniel, will that also work in a 1992 Toyota Camry? New Starter, Battery is good, dome light comes on, I have to manually unlock door, headlights work, horn blows, key remote still function, but no radio, or instrument panel lights come on when the key is in the on-position. Whew!!!
Great! Thank you for this vid. I have been pulling my hair out from this problem in my 1991 Previa. I am not sure if my problem is normal, as I can start the vehicle after I let it set an hour.
My aunt had a '88 Supra with the same problem. I'm not sure if it was bought (new) installed or not , but if it was the same as with this Previa, it sounds like it's a factory or dealer installed aftermarket alarm if the dealer is able to replace it. Anyway, I remember she was told that it couldn't be run without the system (which I recall being much more expensive; greedy dealers...), so my uncle bought a new Accord. This was around ten years ago and some guy eventually begged enough to buy it.
Theres a coolant temperature sensor on the engine at the passenger side, that could be the culprit. If the car needs to cool down before starting most likely that is the problem.
thats good for that vehical my dad had a 99 chevy pickup special ordered it witheverything he wanted on it they put on this damn securtiy thing. so if the gas cap wasnt tightend so it clicked the engine wouldnt start. sometimes the light come on while driving locked the doors and killed the engine. of course you could push on the little lever to unlock it and get out. even GM couldnt figure it out it had something to do with the BIG computer that run the engine too i hate securitythingsonvehical
I have a 1994 Toyota Pickup . I removed the Avital Tornado Alarm but my Plug does not have a yellow wire ?? my Pink wire is my Ignition Switch.. but I dont know what other colored wire to connect it to? :(
My 2004 mercury is having problems that might relate to the box in that car. The alarm randomly goes off whenever it wants to for no reason. Do you know if it is the alarm system itself or maybe the battery in the remote went bad or something but I have to unhook the battery after every use and it is really getting annoying. Any thoughts?
OMG.........almost payed 2500 2 get a new key programmed i lost the master key bout found the spare only thing was it can unlock the doors just wont start now i need to locate that box az the layout ov the van your in is different to mine would that matter mines a 1997 toyota previa 2.4p xl wagon4 4a help me im just too broke to afford to replace
