For the 80s, I listened to "Exit Stage Left" over and over. But, "Power Windows" is my go to RUSH album. Yes, a lot of synths. But, the songs themselves are strong. I still like the lower end, booming foot pedal sounds on that album. "Marathon" might be my favorite all-time song by them.
@RickNBacker

I rate Power Windows as their best post-TerryBrown era album. Yes, the synths are over the top but the songs and arrangements are so good ( a LOT more proggy than Grace Under Pressure) and the the album has a crackling, energetic sound.

80's has to be Moving Pictures...but not for side one, it's all about side two. Camera eye is my favorite Rush song ever. It's the perfect song; it's the only Rush song I think of in movements after Hempisheres. I've heard the song a thousand times in my life and it never fails to give me a headrush after a layoff (no pun intended). Moreover, of all the Rush concerts I've been to, I've never seen the fans lose their minds in the front rows like they did on the Time Machine tour when Camera Eye started.

Great way to end an awesome series, thanks Pete and crew! I have a weird history with Rush. I only got to hear Rush on the radio, but I always liked the songs I heard. My uncle who was my musical navigator didn't like Rush because of Getty's vocals, so I never heavily got into Rush. Over the past couple years I have been digging into their catalog and I'm enjoying the heck out of it. Rush is another band that pains me I never got to see live.

This one was a tough one for me in the 70’s. There are songs on all of them I love and some albums have grown on me more and more in the last 30 yrs but I ultimately have to pick this particular album because I have always dug this album. 70’s - FLY BY NIGHT ( Caress of Steel , 2112 , Hemispheres were in the mix for the spot) 80’s - MOVING PICTURES ( who didn’t love this album) 90’s- COUNTERPARTS ( Just an all around great album.. You have your jammers and the meaningful Nobody’s Hero.) 2000’s- CLOCKWORK ANGELS ( sad that this is gonna be their final album but a really good one none the less. Neil, you have and will always be missed!) Great show Pete! Thanks 🙏 to all that keep our country safe.

70s AFTK/Hemispheres (they go together, Cygnus links them) 80s Power Windows (At the top of their game) 90s Roll The Bones (Along with Presto arguably Geddy Lees greatest vocal performance) 2000 and beyond Vapor Trails (the last album in the evolution, they try going back for the next two and it sounds awkward)

Rush is my favorite band, so I’m very happy that this closes out this series. I revisited Rush’s entire studio discography last year and found that I can appreciate a lot more of the post-Moving Pictures material than I did before. So with that said, here’s my favorite Rush albums by the decade: 70s: RUSH - I love the first 4 Rush albums with all my being, and Farewell to Kings/Hemispheres are great as well (but maybe just a little self indulgent for me). But, man, their first album is just fantastic in my opinion. It may not be very proggy, but if it’s not one of the heaviest, most awesome hard rock/heavy blues albums of all time, I don’t know what is. Love it, regardless of the stigma against it. 80s: Permanent Waves - This might just be a perfect album. My only complaint about it is that it’s too short! Six songs, all of them are fantastic, and it perfectly blends the best of prog and commercial rock. 90s: Counterparts - I’m not the biggest fan of Rush’s music between 1982 and 1991. A lot of it sounds too poppy, not heavy at all, not catchy, and just kinda boring. Counterparts is my favorite 90s Rush album because it finally let the music return to its heavy greatness. The guitar came back to punch you in the face and it was awesome! The vocals still leave something to be desired, but everything else is pretty sweet. Good album, I think. 00s: Snakes & Arrows - Snakes & Arrows is a very strong album in my opinion. It has the same problems as Counterparts, but I think its strong points are stronger than those of Counterparts. The three instrumental songs are some of my favorite songs from Rush, and maybe the best since YYZ. The rest of the album is good, fairly heavy rock and I like it quite a bit. 10s: Clockwork Angels (duh) - I mean, maybe I should have clumped this one in with the 00s albums, but I just want to talk about more Rush. Clockwork Angels is maybe the perfect closing album to Rush’s career. It feels like a sentimental album that gives us (or maybe just me) a good time full of heavy music that I can rock out to as well as lighter songs that can make me cry. In my opinion, this album is Rush’s best album since Signals and I couldn’t imagine a better send off from my favorite band.

Luis raises a great point. Those of us not from Canada or the U.S. have a different experience of Rush. Certainly from my experience, it feels they don't have the same prominence outside North America and you aren't as likely to hear them on the radio. Being born in the 90s I came to all these classic bands retrospectively but Rush in particular I came to later than many other bands of the era, and it feels like my parents' generation don't really talk about them as much as they would if we were North American.

Cheers All, My favorite band in high school and beyond. Seen them countless times live starting from 1980. 70’s-Hemispheres. Although had 2112 not been a big seller would Rush continued? 80’s- Permanent Waves- My first record I bought from them and saw the tour. It started the love affair. Moving Pictures is a better record but my heart is closer to Waves. 90’s- Counterparts - Welcome back Mr. Lifeson! 00’s- Clockwork Angels. A great coda to an amazing career. Long Live Rush. RIP Neil

I moved when I was on 10th grade. I was into Kansas, Pink Floyd etc. I didn't know Rush. One of my new friends invited me over and we where listening to music when his older brother brought in the new album called Hemispheres. They where my favorite for the next few years until I discovered Marillion. A few years later i saw them live. I would see them 17 times every tour except GUP. Moving Pictures put them over the top but i.will never forget hearing Tom Sawyer and Limelight live for the first time. 6 month later i would see them in Canada. Presto and Roll the Bones didn't do it for me but they came roaring back with Counterparts.

Rush became my favorite band for a while in the late 80s/early 90s, and back then I tried to convince all my friends who were into hard rock and metal of their excellence, but I failed. When I played Rush songs to them, the typical conversation went like: - Is that a woman singing? - No, it's a man. - Really? - Yes. - But he sounds like a woman. - No, he doesn't. - Yes, he does. Short pause. - But what do you think of the drums? And the bass is great too! And that guitar solo. - Yeah, not bad. That lady singer though....

My choices are exactly the same as Chris Alo except for the 90's. Test for Echo is better if you watch Neil Pearts DVD "A Work in Progress" -- Seeing the band grasping for its identity, most obviously seen in Peart himself, really relit my ears for the whole album. Now its my favorite 90's album. It was Counterparts, like the majority, but now its Test for Echo. After Pearts DVD, i got the story.... which colors the whole CD differently than when i listened cold. Also, it was the last remnants of Rush as the band growing as musicians.....after Pearts tragic late 90's, and the bands break -- they were never quite the same. Dont get me wrong, Rush was great, just in a different way. An elder statesman....an established wisdom....a maintaining of excellence. The difference between climbing the mountain, and standing at the peak, looking out, knowing what youve accomplished. Thats just my opinion, of course. Great video guys.

Thank you for loving Vapor Trails. I was so happy when they released the remixed version of that album. The music was so good but the production was awful. Hard to listen to and enjoy and I could only handle it a few songs at a time. Thankfully they were able to somewhat fix it with the remix.

@@WhatsWrongWithTheStreet I've always enjoyed this record. The mix didn't bother me that much.It had been so long since they had put out a new record at that time i was thrilled to hear new Rush. It just kinda stuck with me after that.

Yeah.... im going the groin shot! Nothing gets close to "Live in Rio", it is just simply jaw dropping musical energy that cannot be surpassed. As for the studio albums....... well, im 65yrs old now. I recall living at Bondi Beach in my late teens, walking into this cool import record shop and "Fly by Night" was playing. I was transfixed. Loved the cover art, and can say that for every yearly album that came out as my life progressed. Rush had become part of my world and i found something fascinating with every release. Can't rate one above the other, as the entire catologue was my musical journey. It ended with Neils demise, and i still shed a tear as i deal with my own big C demon within. "Rio" is the pinnacle!

At the comment around 31:45, Neil Peart didn't know he was sick when writing/recording Clockwork Angels. He was diagnosed in 2016/17 and "Angels" was released in 2012.

This is especially difficult for me . I live in Toronto, and used to see Rush in the various clubs around town in the early 70s . The Piccadilly Tube was a popular club downtown where they often played . And people actually used the dance floor in front of the stage ! Anyway , iI have a huge emotional attachment to their early albums . That said , I am also a huge fan of their 80 s albums . Signals would probably rank at the top of my list , although , on another day it might be Moving Pictures . For me , the song that is the hidden gem in their catalog is Chemistry . Anyway , here goes : 70s : 2112 (Rush is a close second . I saw them play those songs live before they recorded the debut ) 80s : Signals. ( Moving Pictures and Grace Under Pressure follow close behind ) 90s : Roll the Bones. ( Counterparts is great , but I love the song Ghost of a Chance which tips the scales for me ) 00s : Vapor Trails Great video . Thanks !!

"A Farewell To Kings" is interesting to me because somehow, inexplicably, it slipped through the cracks, and I didn't buy it until 1993 after "Counterparts" had been released. And I was familiar with most of the songs on that album from seeing them live.I was going through my stack of vinyl and finally realized I was missing something because I wanted to listen to Xanadu and couldn't find it on any of my albums. What's great about that for me, is that it is an album almost as good as "Hemispheres" and I got to hear it as a "new" album 16 years after its release.

Rush movie? Title: The Professor Synopsis: "The Professor" follows the journey of Neil Peart, the legendary drummer from Rush, who is facing a terminal battle with brain cancer. As he grapples with his mortality, Neil finds solace in revisiting the music and lyrics of Rush, which have been the soundtrack of his life. Through a series of poignant flashbacks, the film delves into Neil's past, highlighting pivotal moments in his career and personal life. As Neil reflects on the lyrics he penned and the music he helped create, the songs come to life, vividly portraying the struggles, triumphs, and profound moments of his life. From the early days of Rush's formation to the heights of their success, Neil revisits memories of artistic collaboration, touring adventures, and the profound bond he shared with his bandmates, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson. Interwoven with Neil's reflections are scenes depicting his battle with cancer and the impact it has on his loved ones. Despite the grim prognosis, Neil finds strength and inspiration in the timeless themes of resilience, perseverance, and the enduring power of music. "The Professor" is a heartfelt tribute to Neil Peart's remarkable legacy as a musician, lyricist, and human being. It celebrates the enduring impact of Rush's music while honoring the indomitable spirit of a true rock icon.

Young pups. Hemispheres was it for me. Got the three album compilation of the first three albums, 2112, and All the World's a Stage right after hearing and buying Hemispheres. Caught up with my favorite album Farewell to Kings when I got to college. Rush became less appealing after Hemispheres. Then I feel Grace Under Pressure is a dividing line that made Rush just another band for me.

I don’t love Vapor Trails, but the remix version is a million times better than the original. You can actually hear the instruments on the remix version. They knew they made a mistake with the brick-walled garbage mix so I’m glad they came out with the remix.

I really dig Vapor Trails. The first mix was terrible and I am grateful for the remix. It sounds much better but there are lingering problems. But the songs are so powerful and visceral. Read Neil's book Ghost Rider. It will explain that album.

70's- 2012( Have the album and back when in he 70's saw them host of times during then. They always for the most part had great tours to support their albums and the albums back in the 70's seem to reflect that and to be for along the lines of decades worth of music and tours to come.) 80's-Moving Pictures( A good album of coming in he 80s and aged well to other 80's albums to like almost equally as well IMO.) 90's- Counterparts(Reasonably a nice album rock that I can go to and hear and get into where they were along in the 90s) 00's- Snakes & Arrows( Seems to sound well to my ears and was tough with Vapor Trails too. The mix makes a good honorable mention of Vapor Trails. Go with Snakes.. for the decade) 10's-Clockwork Angels- (Go with this for the great sounding work to a last go out album and really takes you with a sense of the long journey of music they made over their course of time. Great last album). There is no wrong answer as you let us know Pete . So true and the video episodes reflect of what people hear to themselves. Glad people have differing or at times the same answers in the world.

1970s: 2112 (Might be the first album I actually read the lyrics as a piece of literature) 1980s: Presto (Came out in 1989, and I thought about sneaking this into the 90s. I love Moving Pictures, and it is their best and most important album, but Neil’s words on Presto have an incredibly deep meaning to me.) 1990s: Counterparts (Was great to hear them “rock” again. 2000-2010s: Clockwork Angels. (Just brilliant all the way around, and a high note to go out on.)
