@davidvinc Golvellius is another Compile game that reminds me of guardian legend in the way it switches from a top down overworld, to side-scrolling, to forced scrolling overhead kind of like a shmup Wayforward tried to do a spiritual followup to Guardian Legend on GBA with Sigma Star Saga, but I haven't heard great things about it

Contra is one of my fav nes games of all time. Yeah I remember playing that with my friends. It was so hard when I was a kid, that I had to use the 30 lives just to beat it. As a kid you struggle with these games to learn the things, how they work etc. Now as an adult I beat this without losing a life. Only did that maybe 4 times as I played this game 100's of times over & over. As a kid it probably took me months maybe years, & that was just to get a grasp of the game or beat it the couple of times. As an adult when you go back to them they are so much easier to master & takes me way less time to beat them.

LTTP is definitely my most nostalgic game that still holds up. I remember watching my older brother watch it for hours as a kid. I specifically remember being amazed by the Ice Palace. It’s one of those games that is just so satisfying whether I play for 15 minutes or do a whole playthrough. On top of that, there are so many iconic songs that take us back to the first time we played it.

My fav submissions: DavidVinc - Guardian Legend - honestly i couldnt have picked better. What an amazing OG Nintendo game that is. It needs more love. CozyFeji - Sly Cooper “yes i said trilogy. I know cannonically there is a 4th game… but it doesnt exist, we dont know her” haha well said. Emily: LOZ LTTP - if there is a game on the SNES i thought highly of its that one. I didnt play the handheld version but what a winner 🏆 Thanks everyone, this was fun, also found some new creators too.

Loved the video, everyone has the same feeling and similar experiences that exposed you all to loving games. My most nostalgic video is Aladdin for the SNES and TMNT turtles in time, I didn’t own any of the two nor the system. They belonged to my brother and I would go to his room and play them without authorization when he was out for soccer practice as he is a decade older than me, so you can imagine how that goes when allowed to play games at a young age. I loved the colors, music and challenge I would have, I failed several times before I passed them after 2 years of trying XD. I would return everything back to normal before he would be back from practice leaving no evidence behind of my intrusion XD.

Excellent collab video! So many different consoles and genres represented. I've never even heard of The Guardian Legend before but it sounds amazing. Nostalgia is such a double edge sword. I remember playing Breath of Fire 3 for the PS1 so much as a kid but was always afraid to jump back in cause what if it aged poorly and didn't love it the same. Finally worked up the courage to do another play through last year. So happy to see it still held up and is still one of my favorite games of all time.

This is such a wonderful video! Got a lot of games added to my list, and tons that I've been thinking about but not sure if I should go back to try! For me, I grew up mostly as a handheld Gameboy gamer. I could bring it with me on long car rides and play for hours. The game that really grabbed me was Pokemon Gold. I fondly remember receiving it with a Yellow Gameboy Color for my birthday. I played that game probably for hundreds if not thousands of hours! So long that I ended up running into a Shiny Golbat through raw 2nd generation shiny odds. Gen 2 songs still play like background music in my head... Looking back at it these days, I'm still surprised at what an incredible and innovative game it was. As a sequel to the original games, it's almost perfect! Introducing you to a new region, but expounding on the story of the previous game with Team Rocket. They update and refine the mechanics, added breading and incorporating the "Color" aspect of the new Gameboy Color by introducing shiny pokemon. Then, when you "beat" the game, you open up a new area that turns out to be the entire original Kanto region, where you can catch up with the memorable characters and areas. Finally, to close out the game, you face Red... the personification of your character from the original game! And he's TOUGH!! Unfortunately, like most of the Gameboy Pokemon games, my Pokemon Gold's battery died and all of those memories are just memories. I've come to terms with that loss 😅These days, I tell people to play Heart Gold or Soul Silver... but, you miss something from the story if you hadn't grown up playing the first gen games.

One game from my childhood that I feel has really stood the test of time with the various rereleases and remakes is Dragon Warrior 3. Whenever I watch David talk about his experiences of when he broke his arm and played it while out of school, it always reminds me of when I was a kid playing that game. Though the Dragon Warrior game I played was different than the one David played, there’s something to be said about the same game being experienced in childhoods ~10 years apart, and even more now that it’s on the switch, and again in the soon to be released 2.5D remake.

Awesome video! When you mentioned a collaboration, I wasn't envisioning anything nearly as big as this! Great video with a couple of RU-vidrs that I really like, and a whole bunch of new ones that I had never come across before. Sadly, I didn't get into console gaming seriously until the Wii and DS. I did buy a PS1 and PS2, but I didn't play them very much and I wasn't into JRPGs back then... I wasn't used to the art style or plot differences in Japanese games. It took a friend of mine to get me into JRPGs in the mid-to-late 20 naughts. My parents wouldn't buy me a console as a kid... they wanted me to have computers because I would use them to program instead of just play games (which is what led to me being a software engineer and mathie today), so really, the earlier games that really stuck out for me are from the Commodore 64 and old PCs, like my 386 PC... Ultima IV, V, and VII were big ones for me, but the ones I still play every couple years are Might and Magic III, IV, and V. Apart from Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2, the first console games that, sadly, really stick out for me the most are Etrian Odyssey IV, Shin Megami Tensei IV, and Fire Emblem Awakening. 😅
@orbalology
@orbalology Год назад
I grew up playing PC games too! Though nothing too much to write home about, the early ones were mostly learning-type games lol. Pokemon Silver was technically my first JRPG but it wasn't until the PS2 era that I got more into them with games like Kingdom Hearts, Dark Cloud, FF12, etc :)

Link to the past was the best SNES adventure game which is unique in a way that it was one of the first SNES games released. I remember some people played through the entire game in a store where they had it displayed with the newly released SNES console. Back then no one stole the cardridge, no one destroyed save files. It was just sitting on a desk there. I played it few years later after I had learnt enough English. Times indeed were different when I was a kid. Honorable mentions to Ocarina of Time too.

I've never really heard much about the Guardian Legend before, now I need to check it out! Sounds cool! My pick is still my favourite game of all time, Jak II on the PS2. Some others that still hold up are the Genesis Sonic games, Ristar, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers (or at least it's a guilty pleasure, I just enjoy a simpler fighter), Phantasy Star on the Master System, along with OOT, Majora's Mask still is a fantastic play. I am happy to play gen 1 and 3 of Pokemon pretty much any day. The Crash and Spyro games on PS1, Ape Escape, Megaman Legends. Dance Dance Revolution MAX, Final Fantasy XII, Ratchtet and Clank series, Sly Series, Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock, Marvel VS Capcom 2, Shadow Of The Colossus (also the GOAT), Spider-Man games, Star Wars Battlefront II on PS2. Super Smash Bros. Melee, Custom Robo on Gamecube (honestly a strong contender for favourite of all time), Metroid Prime, NBA Street. Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is another killer that almost takes favourite of all time! DOOM, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, Majesty, some really simple games like Centipede, N++, Break-Out. There's probably lots more I'm forgetting tbh.

Mine is Twilight Princess. It best encapsulates the sense of an epic adventure of the Zeldas in my opinion. The dungeons are wonderfully set up and, especially as a child, felt so large (and frightening) in scale. It’s always great when Zelda manages to create a sense of adventure and it is prevalent in TotK playing it right now. I won’t ever forget how Twilight Princess first sucked me in. Thanks for the video Emily and all collaborators!

Proud at seeing your channel grow to the point that you have guests in your videos now 🤓 A pick for a game from my childhood that i like go back to that shaped my taste in games would be Earthbound. Got the game back in 1995, another kid in the neighborhood received it and hated it and gave it to me 🤓 Thought it was cool after smash bros melee and brawl released and people started looking for the game or playing it on emulator and became that cult classic that it's known as today. Because of that game though, it made me like odd and quirky games more than whats popular. If is see a game that looks weird, i gotta go check it out 😅 Got to your pick, A Link to the Past was on one of games we got with our super nintendo in 1993. Game's tied to my "best zelda pick with Ocarina of time" Get told that i cant have 2 games as my #1 pick but it's so hard. Both games are very important in the Zelda series and well, games in general.

Thanks for an interesting video. One of the games from my youth that I thought was great was an arcade shooter game called Sinistar. It was a bit different from other games as the enemies you fight build a giant monster spaceship called the Sinistar that hunts you down if you allow it to be built. It is always possible to destroy the sinistar if you fail to stop its construction or cannot find the base, but it obviously becomes a boss battle at that point. There was a PC remake of it some years later but it was much easier that the original arcade game. Also not quite sure why youtube has suddenly changed my user name to not my name but part of my email.

I haven't played the LotR game or that specific Harvest Moon(I played it on SNES but never followed the series and played games here and there) but I agree with pretty much everything announced. My favorite game came out in 1998 so not exactly childhood, but I was still in high school, Brigandine The Legend of Forsena is still my favorite of all time. Brigandine The Legend of Runersia which is imo is worse than Forsena and Grand Edition, is still a great game because despite some issues that it has around changes in how statistics are and equipment are handled, the core game, pretty much everything else is just like the original Brigandine. Brigandine is a TRPG that is as much of a strategy game as it is an RPG. The game is a grand strategy game without all the busy work that is normally found within these games. Instead of a lot of busy work between battles, each castle you own gives you a certain amount of magic and the only thing outside of combat that the player needs to do is position the castles that each of your knights are located at as well as the the monsters that are under these knights control. It's an absolutely incredible game and Runersia despite instantly became one of my favorite games. I have a few videos added on my RU-vid around 10 years ago or so. Two different countries that I played back to back.
