The Witch of Blackbird Pond is such a powerful story. I think it really brings out excellent conversations about faith and religion, as well as immigration, cross-cultural life, etc.
Our favorite read aloud books this year so far - Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, Ramona the Pest, and Frindle. Our least favorite was The Very Very Far North. For independent reading, the hits have been 39 Clues and Erin Hunter books - Warriors, Survivors, Seekers.
We didn’t like The Very Very Far North either! I struggle with things that don’t have super clear plot lines to follow, my kids felt like it was choppy and unexciting.
Hi Megan! Thanks for sharing😊 I love historical fiction so much more now as an adult than I did as a child! I am adding A Place to Hang the Moon to my wish list right now!
My 13 year old son said his favorite was The Bronze Bow. My 11 year old daughter liked the fun book we kicked off this school year with, Adventures With Waffles. I loved a Murder for Her Majesty. My son said his favorite characters were in a Murder for Her Majesty. He said “I appreciate a book that really develops the characters in a way that makes me feel like I personally know them. And this book did that for me.”
We read a place to hang the moon a couple years back and is still our favorite. We just finished her newest book I think it’s called nothing else but miracles, also so so good! She is a great writer!
All great books! Read all except witch of blackbird pond but it’s on my list. Oh man when we read stone fox, we listened to it on audio, I was not anticipating the ending and full on wept. My kids were fine though but it really does pull at your heartstrings!
We loved A Place to Hang the Moon last year and we followed it up with How I Became a Spy-a boy's story who stays in the city and all that happens with that. It was great to see how different the two stories were but happening at the same time.
I would love to do audiobooks in the car! What audiobook services do you use and would I have to stream them or can I download them and not have to use data on my phone?
Treasures of the Snow by Patricia St John is so good. Absolutely beautiful. I have a couple of your favourites, so must dive into those, and I’m tempted to pick up the others. Love Henry and Ribsy series!
