Hello everyone (*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡ Here is my very, very belated favourite books of 2017!
Now, I wouldn't normally info-dump things like the plot/publishing date/genre on the screen in the form of text but ... when I was editing the video I realised I totally forgot to talk about the plot for most of the novels . I figured it was better to put the outline there on the screen so you didn't have to go looking it up yourselves in case you wanted to find out what each book was about.
Also, also, I'm so sorry: It's 'A Room of One's Own' not 'In a Room of One's Own' lol. I am but a wee-smol, heckin' embarassing pleb who remembers names wrong (even of my favourite books) ~
I hope you guys enjoy the video, and have a lovely day!

That's one of my favourite parts of reading older books ahaha. I'm such a nerd, I love finding out new words. It's a really, really beautifully written story 😊

Easily my new favourite channel :) Relaxed and calm, but has so much quality. I'm interested in reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles, sounds really fascinating. And I'll be reading Jane Eyre, soon; my sister-in-law gave me a copy for Christmas. Oh, and my favourite book I read this year was Pride and Prejudice; it is truly a masterpiece. Along with Dorsai, an excellent sci-fi novel, which I related to very heavily.

Aww that's so sweet. Thank you so much!! And I still haven't read Pride and Prejudice! I LOVED the movie but just haven't read the book (despite owning a really lovely hardbound copy). I need to read it soon. And I hope you like Jane Eyre! 😊

The snow is so pretty! But should be enjoyed from behind glass, like observing creatures in a zoo. It's so sweet hearing about your passion for reading. I'm not such a fan of the Game of Thrones books, but I like the TV series. It's very well written. Who were your favorite characters? I liked Arya the best. I'm not sure how much you might like fantasy, but have you read The Last Unicorn or Elric of Melnibone?

It's so lovely. And even more perfect if it's snowing outside and you're inside reading 😊 I've only read the first one! Not sure when/if I'll read the rest of them but I did think it was a wonderful book. The show is absolutely amazing. And I love Arya. But, also, Tyrion and Danny. I do also have a soft spot for Sansa because, in my opinion, I think she's probably the person who's suffered the most in the show. It's so hard to pick a favourite! hahah And, no, I haven't read them but I just looked them up and they look really interesting! 😊

Oh and if you enjoy a brilliant Japanese fantasy series, then The Twelve Kingdoms is a masterpiece both in book and in its anime form. The anime can seem very cliche in the beginning, but stick with it and the character development will leave you grinning from ear to ear. The weak, "someone save me" female heroine goes from sobbing mess to a powerful and sage queen with a magic sword and a keen mind. It's so well done.

Hi! I'm so sorry, but I can't remember the name of the place I got it from 😟 It was a tiny, independent store in Insadong, South Korea. It's an A2 sized canvas print and it's lovely, so I'd love to tell you that they had an online store or something, but I can't even remember the name to look it up 😭 Sorry!

Orland is my favorite work too. I agree Orland is truly a masterpiece. In 2017, KAAT in Yokohama had a theatre of Orland . So I previewed the original. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--lda7DYx9VQ.html It is regret thst thee trailer looks kind of commical but actually the theatre is stunning and beautiful especially music and the artistic projection mappying onto the wall on the stage. By the way I was an literature student too and now from a street critic commnutiy. In Japan , the school of literature used to be for counter culture youth since 100 years ago Today only a few universities has such litersture school where you can skip the class but go drink with your buddies and your professors whose classes were those of a few classes you are interested in to discuss, art, literature, life, philosophy and Revolution damn until morning. Japan has two places for humanities. One is academic world in universities and the other is street where you are not necessarily required to have a doctor or master degree but to have a talent. In the world of the street critic of over 100 years tradition , anybody can become a critic on literature , art , philosophy , movie, theatere and anything else. The street ciritc as a whole is always associated to a kind of counter culture to create your own philosophy based on widest knowledge of humanities to change the society! They read tons of books but do not look bookish. It’s just like a hip hop commnity. One who wrote the coolest critic (cool means how sharply changes your view to the world ) on self made free-magazine can be a champion and a hero respected in commnitids. He/She can debut in a monthly litersture magazine by major publishers . Of course ,there is dissing against other critics in what they write or battle talk shows in dromt of audience. You have to develop your own style of writing that rocks the society there. The most prispering time of street critic is the era of 60’s student protest culture. But even today, the community still last generation to generation. Not only critics, many famous and innovative novel writers, contemporary theatere/dance directors , historian and philosophers in Japan came out of the street critic community. Talented people who do humanities can not be satisfied with the formal academic world in Japan any time. So whenever, they moved to the street commnitiy to Today, being bookish is often connected to being nerdy. But the coolest people who rocked the society used to be bookish. One of the goals in my life is to introduce the scene and philosophers that thought really originally and in truly innovative way from the street critic scene to the rest part of the world. Because of the language barrier and the prejudice with orientalism that Japan has only oriental thoughts like ZEN, the principal of life of Samurai and so on that are not as universal as western philosophy, they have hardly been introduced to outside of Japan. But the street phisophers in Japan are the truly successors of western philosophy. Truly Hardly-discovered treasures of humanities not only for domestic readers but also for mankind. So I would like you a native english speaker who studies humanities to take a glance into the street humanities comminity in Japan.

So many interesting books! I hope that I can read some of your last year's favorites this year, as my English is not thaaaat good, because I'm German and it is my first language. :) Well, my plans for this year are Haruki Murakami's "Norwegian Wood" and "Sleep", and Keigo Higashino's "The Devotion of Suspect X", but in the German version called "Verdächtige Geliebte". Also I plan to continue collecting my manga books (does that count? xD). Actually I have to go on reading Harry Potter in English too, I got the whole collection over a year ago and still didn't finish it until The Prisoner of Azkaban, I feel guilty. :')

Your English is absolutely fantastic! (Much, much better than my Japanese ... hahah). 'Sleep' is really good! It's a short story so it'll be a really quick read. Ooooh I wrote an article on Japanese book recommendations and 'The Devotion of Suspect X' was on it!! I haven't read it but the plot looks really good. Please let me know what you think if you do read it 😊 And, yes, Manga totally counts hahah. At the moment I'm only reading 'One Piece' but I'm so far behind, I REALLY need to catch up.

Christy Anne Jones ah thank you. :') And yes, I will let you know my opinion about The Devotion of Suspect X when I finished it. :) My girlfriend is a huge fan of One Piece, too, but there are sooo many volumes. :D

Jane Eyre is a great book. You should watch the movie too (particularly the 2011 one with michael fassbender). If you're into really eccentric books, I recommend Ryu Murakami. He's overshadowed by Haruki, but I think he's great. Coin Locker Baby is my favorite, but I think Piercing is his most popular.

I have watched it! It was the first thing I did after finishing the book hahah. I thought it was a brilliant adaption. And ooh I have heard a bit about Ryu Murakami. I've been wanting to check out his writing for ages. Maybe Coin Locker Baby will be a good place to start. Thank you so much for the recommendation! 😊
