As always, I love your selection books! I am on a huge classic re-reading binge at the moment and I will have to add Far From The Madding Crowd - I just have to be in the right place to expose myself to the sadness of Thomas Hardy! It sounds like an amazing experience being able to read it where it was set!

I love your selection. Just bought the Thomas Hardy in a beautiful edition yesterday 🙂 And I should ignore my stubborn "never read what everyone is reading" voice in my head and try Sally Rooney, thank you !

I loved River Kings too, and haven't heard many people talk about it, so it was lovely to hear your take on it

I'm so glad you enjoyed River Kings! Through living right next to York and studying Norse mythology at uni, I am quite obsessed with vikings so it's lovely to hear you are enjoying reading more about them!

Piranesi was in my top 2 last year (I couldn't decide between it and Beloved by Toni Morrison). It's amazing to me how much she managed to squeeze into such a short book, and the structure was just incredible.

I would love to hear more about the other nonfiction books you read last year! I’m not quite sure if you already talked about doing that or not.

That's true, there is alot about Anne but not the others. It's a time period I have a passion for, I'm going to have to pick up Young, Damned and Fair

Your cat behind you is adorable. Your number one might be one I will read for nonfiction November. I still need to read Thomas Hardy’s work. Maybe I will start with Madding Crowd. Piranesi is on my TBR. 😊💙

Put four of your books on my list - NO HARDY - I read Jude the obscure in high school and it still leaves a bad taste decades later - I’ve seen piranesi pop up repeatedly on best lists over the years. So THANKS!

I'd definitely recommend Far from the Madding Crowd - a very different book from Jude ✨

I'm betting 2022 will lean more on the fiction side for you. When it comes to a favorite valley of the assassins by Freya stark.

I've read Tess of the D'Urbervilles and Jude the Obscure by Hardy but not Madding Crowd. I find Hardy so depressing that I'd really have to be in an extremely happy frame of my to allow myself to read something that will likely destroy me.

Far from the Madding Crowd is definitely a cheerful one (with a few deaths thrown in 😅)
