FBI opens criminal investigation into Baltimore bridge collapse

The FBI has opened a criminal investigation into the collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge with federal officials wanting to know if the crew was aware that the cargo ship that rammed the bridge last month had been malfunctioning before it left port. CBS News' Nicole Sganga has more.

There should be maintenance history and log records of the captain, crew and company that operates and owns this ship. Just like the Titanic and Captain Smith who had two serious accidents on vessels he operated before Titanic..

The ship is NOT owned by "Republicans Nor Democrats...do some research. The ship is owned by Singapore-based Grace Ocean Private Ltd.. That entity is going to have the pants sued off of it and rightly so.

I would imagine that he is talking about the pilots that were guiding the ship at the time. If their voting record is suspect, then they will be suspect.

Check where the ship came from and get them to pay for it, tax payers should NOT have to foot this bill. Remember biden wants to pay for this using the citizen's money.

Are you truly that dense? Serious question. The channel needs cleared now, the bridge needs replaced now. Biden and the Federal government are doing exactly what they should be doing. After the multiple investigations and lawsuits, etc. will the insurance companies pay.

Biden doesn't have a say, the Maryland delegation will push it in Congress. As for the tax dollars, we send billions overseas constantly. Israel alone is 300 Billion. Ukraine, Gaza, and just about every country you can name, gets US tax dollars. This bridge is US infrastructure, used by US citizens. Any insurance payouts are likely years away due to litigation, so what else is there? Taxes are certainly paying for all the work being done now. We are looking at 400 million to a billion to replace the bridge based on what was spent on the Cuomo bridge in NY. We can hope there's some criminal liability, and the lawsuits from Maryland, the city, the port and possibly shipping companies damaged by this.

Really? The owner of the ship is Singapore-based Grace Ocean Private Ltd. THIER SHIP DESTROYED THE BRIDGE AND SOME HUMAN LIVES..

How about this? They said they didn't need tugs for this ship, but they're using tugs for all the ships now? Tells you the Port Authorities were irresponsible. They should be fired and replaced for safety sake!

Add'l thought, NO OTHER SHIP would have done this much damage to this bridge. It happens to leave port at the least traffic hour of the day without escort? JUST TO MANY WHAT IF'S!!!

Terrorism. It's well known this was either a cyber attack or a planned strike. That particular ships steering mechanisms are designed to remain operational even if they lose power.

The only criminal activity comes from Iran. It was a cyber attack on the ships computers. The hackers cut the power to the ship. The same thing happened in NYC as a ship approached the Verezzano Bridge. The difference was there were 3 tug boats to grab the ship before it crashed into the bridge. The electrical power was cut off on the ship. Another cyber attack. There is no one to blame except for the Biden administration. For some reason, they are afraid to confront Iran. 6billion dollars? Follow the money…..

I went to the FBI once to get them to investigate an Oklahoma Sheriff dealing meth. Gave them his sellers and where and how he was manufacturing it. I was attacked by four men and permanently cripled after the Sheriff FOUND OUT!

It doesn't work that way. Payouts will be years away due to lawsuits by the State, the city, the port, the dead workers families, the shipping companies affected.....years, and we can't wait. It's US infrastructure used by US citizens, at least it's not going over seas. It could be as much as a billion dollars, a tiny spec of what the US spends each day.

That crash was deliberate. The ship "lost power" while on a collision course with the giant support pillar then last minute the power comes on it makes slight corrections " looses power" again and hits the pillar head on pretty much.

Exactly. Why was the ship so close to the support tower in the first place before loosing power. Why is no one asking that. Why wasn't the course right in between the towers
