"i'm more secure in who i am and how i feel because i went on their journeys with them" is such a wonderful encapsulation of the effect these characters and their stories have had on me. thank you for this

Catra and Chloe deserve so much better. They didn’t deserve the pain that happened to them. Same can be said about Kenny from Telltale’s The Walking Dead as well.

I haven’t seen such a GR8 analysis video since Five By Five Takes She-Ra videos❣️(seriously, check out her videos they r A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.🤩) Do u think you’ll do an analysis video on Adora’s trauma & warped sense of self? Given that it drove EVERY major decision she made, including making her able 2 leave without Catra 2 not hesitating 2 sacrifice herself without trying 2 find an alternative, I really think analysing her character could b as fascinating as those done with Catra 😁

Thank you for making such an insightful and beautiful video. I am more familiar with catras struggle but also enjoyed hearing about the game. I’ve watched this video over multiple times and really respect the honesty and humility that you had. I feel like I can also put myself into similar situations where I push people away because I do not feel good enough for them. Anyways thought that was a great video and I loved it. Really value these deep dives on characters that mean do much to me, please make more. ❤️

...I have only ever connected to these 2 characters out of all forms of media, besides Korra now that I'm older. [My sister was who got me into seeing that since she stated she looked up to me so much and saw that I came back from a traumatic past and turned it into something positive to help others. So she got into Korra because she looked and acted exactly like me now]. But as for these two, the relation was so bad that my mom even saw the relatability and even watched my dad play a video game for the first time. The video game being Life is Strange because she couldn't fathom how much Chloe Price acted exactly like me during high school. Then when She-Ra came out, this Catra, my heartstrings always tugged for. I knew -exactly- what she was going through and every time I heard negative comments and people outright hating her it felt like an illogical stab at myself that I took hella personally. That same upset at taking it personally leading me here. I read a comment from one of my favourite Catra AMVs that I sent to my, unfortunately, clinically diagnosed Narcissistic father, [Catra - DNA] knowing he wouldn't watch it and if he did, he wouldn't comprehend he was Shadow Weaver or the message I was sending him from when he finally saw me after 2 years and asked why my family wanted nothing to do with him. Myself being the oldest and scapegoat. But, there was this missing puzzle piece of psychology. In the past, I was diagnosed with BPD, Borderline Personality Disorder and ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder, in high school, but I actually went several years undiagnosed with ASD, Autism Spectrum Disorder. Yet, I always had this one particular issue that I never understood. I would bring it up during therapy, and to friends, if they related, and even deep conversations with strangers. That being, before my real personal trauma occurred, there were times as a child even at the age of 3 that I felt extreme shame and guilt. One big example that never leaves my memory is back in Kindergarten, I won 1st place in the art contest that was hosted against everyone Pre-K through 5th grade. My teacher wanted to congratulate me before the news was presented so she pulled me aside out in the hallway for a one on one. For some utter reason, this -terrified- me. I was a good kid, there was absolutely no reason for me to feel like I did something wrong and the immense guilt behind it. I started bawling. She quickly tried calming me down to inform me of the good news, which only caused me to cry even more in the hallway but this time out of sheer embarrassment and shame. Yet, nothing happened that I personally recall that could invoke such strong emotions of shame and guilt until I found this very video, then showed my mother. From there, my mother wanted us to look into Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria and oh my godz did this present the puzzle piece for my family. We all have the same issues, all of us are unfortunately diagnosed with ADHD and I keep telling my brother to get clinically diagnosed for ASD but it felt like we finally found the main villain that hid in the shadows all this time controlling our other issues with puppet strings. Next time I have my therapy appointment I am definitely bringing this up for a professional opinion but CBT and DBT would be a really good start for myself and my family. With my word vomit I'll end here. Thank you for this video essay. Take care and stay safe!

@@jonathanharrison4585 Same to you! I just wanted to update that I finally had my 2nd appointment and I brought up RDS and she was actually familiar with it and agrees with my assessment that it plays as a main villain holding the strings to all other issues of mine. So besides the other stuff mentioned I'm hoping to get further to the bottom of it. It's wrapped up with extreme subconscious Shame and guilt that leads to fear of disappointment to finally fear of rejection even thigh consciously I could give zero f--cares. Even people pleasing that's become such a problem of mine I suffer internal turmoil fighting, is even related to the same ordeals. It's like there is a subconscious entity fear of rejection has formed that when I go to do anything it comes up to take the wheel and we fight in the mental car space daily. o_o Best I can explain, but I'm hoping soon I can defeat the entity and make true decisions daily for myself without fear. I also wish that for everyone else in the same predicament.

You are a very underrated content maker. I really appreciate what you did here. Catra is a character I get on a personal level, but you opened my eyes to just how much we get each other. Let alone Life is Strange, I’ve never seen this before and wow, you opened my eyes. Thanks again and keep making content like this.

...Huh. Maybe this is why I loved and connected to Catra and Chloe so much, even though on the surface I'm nothing like either of them. Somewhere in my subconscious my teenage self is wincing from being called out so hard but also crying at feeling understood.

I felt the things that Catra and Chloe felt, that's why their both my favorite character, not many characters can actually relate what it means to feel abandoned. Being abandoned sucks, its the worse pain that you can ever feel, even if someone isn't abandoning you but you feel like they are, it still hurts. Cause you feel like your not worthy to be their friend, not worthy to be alive. I still struggle with being abandoned, even if a person promises that they won't leave, I can't help but to think that they will, cause it happened a week or two ago. It hurts, but the only thing you can really do is cry and let all the pain out....

First things first- I adore this video, and your channel. It sits right on the intersection of my interests and does a lot for me in terms of reflecting my experience- not exactly, but closely enough that it's great to see. The only thing I disagree with is this. What kind of relationship Chloe and Rachel had has no bearing on the situation with Rachel and Frank. Rachel is, in spite of her persona, a child; at most an 18 year old when whatever she had with Frank started. By the time of Life is Strange 1, Frank is in his 30's; he's over ten years older than Rachel. Rachel was the victim in that situation, no matter how it goes, even if she actually initiated it- which I find hard to believe. On to my own thoughts. Rachel actually has a lot of the same fears as Chloe, and similar symptoms to borderline personality disorder, something I'm realizing has defined my entire life. Her fear of abandonment is just as large as Chloe's; her relationship with her father has driven her to go between extremes of favoriting Chloe, pushing her away, and then jumping into the deep end of feelings and promises. She engages in wildly risky behaviors, and her responses to certain situations are drastic, though they have clear causes. More than that, of course, Rachel suffers from feeling false; a constant performer, someone who has no true self and only sees the character she has to play. But around Chloe, she seems to feel safer- more "real", more "herself", something I can tell you is a big part of my experience of bpd. The person I favorite and love for howeverlong it holds is the source of safety in my life, my source of stability and self-identity. Without them, I spiral into performative behaviors driven at creating a response that keeps me safe. Rachel also seemingly lacks meaningful relationships outside of Chloe, and, depending on how you view later events, devalues Chloe later on. Their relationship (be it friendship or otherwise) is fast, passionate, and prone to falling apart in explosive fashion if it remains unmanaged; which, in the canon story, it certainly did. The kinds of abuses Rachel seems to suffer from, as well as the seeming sources of her issues, line up with my experience with bpd very closely. She and Chloe both make me feel... seen, and safe in a weird way.

Oh yeah I agree on all points. I just didn’t bring any of that up because I was trying to keep the analysis more focused on Chloe in this video. The Rachel Amber essay will go into a lot of those points in detail. Thank you for the kind words!

@@jonathanharrison4585 I figured it would! I'm certianly looking forward to that video! It's crazy how Rachel gets talked about by some circles- Chloe, too. At least for me, it's not unlike how they talk about disorders, accusations of abuse and cruelty and somehow planning an absurd, impossible thing because any expression of pain, be it Chloe's abandonment or Rachel's distain for the falseness she carries, is seen as manipulative and cruel to the more "normal" characters. At least, that's how I feel about how those circles tend to talk about it.

@@InnsannaStories I don’t understand why people keep saying that Rachel manipulated Chloe and that she never loved her or cared about her and that Chloe manipulated Max and never loved her or cared about her.
