I did not expect to see Myanmar rebels wearing Singapores No4 pattern uniforms. I assumed some of those uniforms were hand me downs or even burmese who served in the SAF before.

They're not the same style so perhaps it's the same cloth but different cut

The camo itself can be seen copied in China (unlicensed) and in Indonesia (licensed by Sritex).. most probably they attained it from China. I'm also surprised seeing Myanmar revolutionary militias wearing Multicam camo

@@Cyan_Nightingale Singapore's uniforms are produced in China but it's rare to see anything leak unless they're rejects from the factories. Some combat shirts were showing up for cheap a few years ago, though and the one I acquired was fine. The ripstop looks right so it might be leftover cloth rather than a wholesale copy of the pattern.

You can find SAF digital uniforms pretty easily in Malaysia. I have even seen them being sold for only RM10

I like the Lao pattern as a fashion pattern. Maybe not my first choice for a game of hide and seek though.

Always wondered why the navy wanted blue camo... If the enemy sees a boat, its a safe bet theres soldiers on it, and if you fall overboard, that just makes you harder to find.

You can't win. If you put them in woodland/army camo, people will say "why do they need that out on the water lol?". If you put them in navy specific clothing, people will shit on it for being ineffective. Personally, I figure it's better to have effective camo (like Multicam) and not need it on the water, than being ashore in blueberryflage (I've never understood the desire for blue camo, whether it be for navy or internal/police/urban use - atleast use grey then), and I doubt the extra expenses with printing camo is significant today. You can always supplement with distinctive naval rank and insignia, they don't need a whole separate type of uniform. If you absolutely must have a distinctive navy uniform, then keep it classy with navy blue/black/dark grey.

So, the reason why the Navy wanted "blue camo" was because during that era of camouflage, it was popular in the branches to adopt patterns as "fashion statements" rather than actual camouflage patterns that blended in. Take US Air force ABU and APECs for example, its digital tigerstripe in a grey almost blue color scheme. The Air Force was offered an actual effective pattern but they declined it, they wanted a fashion piece more than a practical pattern. So same with the US Navy, they adopted the pattern as a fashion statement rather than an actual effective camo pattern. Also, in the world of camo patterns, there is a subset of working uniforms. Take for example the Czech M92 work shirt that features a subtle worm-like olive drab and purplish camo pattern, its a pattern that is meant to cover up grease and oil stains not to conceal the wearer in let's say a forest. So the Navy's blue camo is simply a working uniform that is in camo just to look cool with the mild ability to hide stains better than a solid color uniform.

@@froginthewaves8450 I'm aware of those reasons (but thanks for bringing them up), yet I associate everyone getting unique camo for the heck of it with third world military juntas, where the police get their blue camo and the firefighters their orange camo. It just looks weird and unprofessional to my Western eyes. I'd think black or dark blue would be equally effective at hiding stains, while also looking sharper (like the old school tanker uniforms), and who really cares if a military mechanic has a stained woodland camo uniform? I believe the Royal Navy still issues a solid navy blue working uniform, which also looks very sharp and appropriate. I think it's weirder when U.S. military splits camo patterns into specific branches (like AOR and OCP) instead of everyone wearing the most appropriate pattern to the environment they're operating in, regardless of branch.

The camo only blend well with the ship's floor. LOL You can see some photos of sailor in NWU lying face down on the floor. pbs.twimg.com/media/CpIGs7uWEAASHwV.jpg

IMO they should just wear a light mono-color utility uniform with a reversible jacket and head-dress in hi-viz for when they're on deck. If your boat is under attack the little bright dots on it are not priority targets.

It'd be interesting to hear how the Russians picked up on it. As far as I can read, US SOF also used the AU variant for a bit, but the main users are definitely the Russians with FG, who even went so far as to adopt it (or a slightly modified version) as the official pattern of their National Guard (Rosgvardiya). Russian SOF (SSO) also used AU and iX a bit, and some Chechen units used AU too.

@@froginthewaves8450 The Russian use isn't actually a bootleg, the official license for the FG pattern was bought by the Russian producer 5.45 Design, and they're currently one of the only remaining producers of actual ATACS-FG pattern gear. Some other companies produce a similar pattern that's been nicknamed "Ataka" and "moss", but it has some differences to that produced by 5.45
