I'm 14, and last year I decided to stop drinking soda, stop eating cookies, cereal, and anything like that. I've been drinking only water for almost a year now (sometimes I will have a glass of milk, and I'll have a cookie here and there but not as much as I did last year) and TBH I feel healthier, and I've noticed that I process information better in school too!! I'm also somewhat more energized than I was before.

@@dawnbarber7980 Hi! I hope you are well! Believe it or not I’m still at it but relaxed just a smidge. My life depends on it. I don’t want to be diabetic and I am not 🙌🏾! The longest I’ve gone without sugar is about 2 months. I primarily eat on the outskirts of the grocery store. I DO NOT drink milk nor eat ice cream period! Instead I freeze smoothies or eat a LOT of fruit 😳! I DO NOT drink soda or pre-made juice! I DO NOT eat hard or sticky candy (gummy worms, sour candies, skittles, starbursts…). I do; however like chocolate …specifically dark chocolate. At Sprouts I will grab a dark chocolate and pretzel bar. I do enjoy a cup of coffee that I will use soy milk or flax milk as my creamer and 2 teaspoons of Agave as a sweetener. Outside of the pretzel dark chocolate bar the ONLY bread, that I rarely eat, is rye bread. Otherwise I am a protein, vegetable, or fruit girl. Boring I know … but I m alive and healthy. 🤷🏾‍♀️😊 I hope this helps!

If you quit sugar and find that you still get horrible cravings, try cutting out all fruit, too. Just for two / three weeks. (also, be sure to not eat honey / artificial sweeteners, stevia, agave, etc)...if you cut all of this out for just the two / three weeks you'll be shocked at how you don't get sugar cravings anymore. I've been completely sugar free for six weeks now, it's wonderful. I walk right past chocolate without a second thought. (it's a miracle) Try it. You'll be pleased.

Yeah, but if more people start using cocaine instead of sugar it'll eventually become common place enough that it will get legalized and the price will drop substantially.

I think the hardest thing about giving up sugar is the social aspect. Suddenly you can't share in any of the treats coworkers being in, you become that ultra picky eater at Thanksgiving, grabbing lunch with a friend and finding something safe to eat is so stress inducing you avoid eating out altogether, and worst of all: no alcohol! Obviously it depends on how strict your sugar free diet is, but some say to really kick the addiction and lose the cravings, you have to go all the way, at least at the beginning. I've tried and couldn't last a week, purely due to the social stress of it all!

I'm on 3 weeks of no sugar challenge. I have lost 12 lbs and my 13 yr old "pre-diabetic" daughter has lost 10 lbs. She just had blood work done and after just 3 weeks, all BAD #s were improved and most all were now in normal range (glucose, insulin, A1C, triglycerides, Cholesterol, blood pressure and liver function). Prior to this change, she has had high cholesterol for a few years now and they were going to put her on a cholesterol drug if it was still high at this check up. LUCKILY it was in normal range for the FIRST TIME IN YEARS and no cholesterol drugs for her! My blood pressure is also down and I will soon be off bp medicine. Sugar and processed foods are no joke and with the right foods your body can actually heal itself!

We have both sides to blame, ourselves and the greedy food companies. True, they overwhelm us with processed products loaded with added sugar, but we also have the knowledge to where we can find healthier choices. (I get all of my food from my personally trusted local farms) Do you have the willpower to save your own life? I've been on this processed sugar-free diet for a long time, and I can tell you, when you make healthier choices all of those options will start moving away, because your brain will tell you that those choices will no longer be logically valid. =)

Carmen Xerxes The problem is, the companies have lobbying power to an extent where the fda made fat free popular and gave rise to sugary food, ordinary citizens don't. The US food industry is singularly scary in that it has pretty much screwed up the food Americans eat to an extent where it has become cheap to consume processed, unhealthy food and expensive to eat more natural foods. like where is the logic in that? Well, that's what super PACs and lobbying power can get you

I'm on day two of the 10-day sugar free challenge with some friends on Facebook. Luckily for my I don't eat a lot of sweets, but I did notice that most of this added sugar that is causing so many of the problems are found in process foods. So, shopping the "walls" of the grocery store makes more sense. I'm also a cook, so cooking my own meals helps me control that added sugar monster.

That bread is really ALL SUGAR because the starch it is made of rapidly converts to sugar in the bloodstream. One slice of bread, even whole wheat, raises blood sugar more than a snickers bar.
@church_8459
@church_8459 3 года назад
I don't think this is entirely accurate. Yes, the starchy foods contain glucose. Glucose is something your body needs to function. You need it for muscle movement and brain function. The problem with added sugar is that it is sucrose, which contains glucose AND fructose. The Fructose is the culprit here. Comparing starchy carbs to added sugar is not an apples to apples comparison. Yes, you can still overeat on starchy foods, but they don't seem to add visceral (organ) fat like fructose does. Evidence suggests that fructose is responsible for many of the metabolic issues, like high blood pressure, visceral fat gain, diabetes (type 2), inflammation, certain types of cancers, and a whole host of other diseases.

You just began to realize that many products have entirely too much sugar in them and it can be kinda disgusting...it’s so hard to find anything without added sugar. I decided to cut out sugar and "white" flour, pasta, and rice by eating the Sugarbusters way. I felt so GREAT both physically and emotionally while eating that way for 6 weeks, and I lost 19 lbs. without even trying. You also have to stop eating white potatoes, corn, watermelon, pineapple, bananas, and raisins on this plan because those foods raise your blood sugar really fast. I can't say enough good things about eating the Sugarbusters way. I used to be lethargic while eating my normal way with lots of sugar, but while on Sugarbusters I had so much energy I felt like the energizer bunny you see in the battery commercials. I got so many things done and felt absolutely great. I highly recommend reading Sugarbusters and trying it. (I'm not affiliated with the book or authors in any way.) I think our country would be much more intelligent, happier, and less violent if we would stop eating too much sugar. It really does affect people in horrible ways. It's like the heroine of the food world. I don't even think that's an overstatement. I really believe that. If you want to look and feel great, get off sugar and simple carbs (the white bread, pasta, and rice). Change your white bread to Ezekiel Bread. You can find it at Jewel in their freezer section. You'll see a wonderful difference in your mood, weight, and health.

Lol sugar is addictive because we have carbohydrate receptors on the tip of our toungues. We're designed by nature to seek carbohydrate rich foods (e.g fruits and vegetables) which is the reason raw fruits taste good opposed to raw meat which has no flavor unless you cook and thoroughly adding and adding salty condiments to it. The longest living cultures thrived on starch and fruits and vegetables with little meat. The high sugar foods you're referring too is included in high fat foods also.

I cut sugar quite a bit starting in summer 2019. I immediately lost weight on the keto diet. Since then, I have reintroduced complex carbs like oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat bread, bran cereal, fruit, etc. I am still losing weight. I do have an occasional treat like candy or dessert, but it's very seldom. I don't keep those foods in my home AT ALL. So, if I want sweets, I have to literally get up off my fat behind and go to a restaurant or store to purchase ONE SERVING of something sweet (because I don't allow myself to have more than one serving, so I don't need to buy more just to have it sitting around tempting me). This has been going very well for me. I eat plenty of fat and protein, with limited complex carbs, and am effortlessly losing weight without starving myself or exercising. I believe the "lowfat and fat free" fad was a total flop. Our bodies need fats to live. We do not need carbs, especially when it comes to sugars. I am happy this information is being corrected so the public will learn, starting with this generation, that we've had it wrong for decades. This is exactly what lead to the obesity epidemic in the US. The bottom of the food pyramid was carbs. There is sugar in everything, even savory tasting foods. We must cook our food from scratch and stop trusting packaged, processed, refined junk. It's toxic.

To be honest, the only 'added sugars' I consume on a day to day basis are in bread and milk (even in 1%)... I have fruits and veggies when I feel like snacking (sorry, I'm an annoying fit-freak too!), breakfast is steel oats and eggs and rarely do I eat pasta... I make my own sandwiches and I'm still a kid so my dinners are home-cooked 7 days/week. Of course, it helps that they are Chinese dinners (brown rice, etc.; although, sometimes a bit of table sugar is used to regulate the meats). So I don't see how difficult it would be. I might try this. I need my mom's permission lol. But the only things I'd have to be cautious about will be bread and milk. It's not hard, right?

Yeah? You all may doubt sugar is that bad but there is more and more research saying it is. The rise in American weight gain is almost parallel with the reduced cost of sugar. Sugar used to be available to only the well off because of it's high cost but when it became affordable to the middle class in the early I900's, on went the weight. Don't think you are addicted? Most addicts don't, especially those who insist the most loudly. Try it ....as a learning experience. It may change your life.

"I can't answer that"...Well, Bill it's because you helped seat Monsanto cronies into Washington. Does anyone really believe he would rat them out? They are the very ones who legislate all of the shit that goes into our foods to begin with. These people don't go far enough. Their incessant cravings for sugar is caused by an imbalance of gut flora called candida albicans. Why won't they mention that? Because most conventional physicians do not recognize it as a Big Pharma compensated, treatable illness. Yet holistic natropaths have known about this for ages. Once again, liberals telling half truths are still telling half lies.

my brain and mental health is really important to me and ive always looked into somewhat healthy eating. last year one of my cats died and i fell into a hole of depression, drank a lot of alcohol, ate whenever and whatever i wanted and gained like 30kg (~66lbs) withing a little over a half year. then something clicked at some point, i went back to my former eating habits which included intermittent fasting and i started looking at caloric intake again. then i found out about dr. lustig and his endocrynologic research and how insulin is the biggest factor in all of it and how sugar can be linked to so so many braindamaging diseases. i dont wanna die in a hospital one day. im still somewhat young and want to live and die on my feet with full mental capabilities. i cut out all added sugars a couple months back, replaced most carbs with healthy fats and my weight went down and most of all my mood has never been better. i am in such a balanced state that almost nothing can throw me off anymore really. which really surprised me since there was still a lot of bad stuff happening in my life and still is. my only vice is pasta since i really do love pasta but i tried reducing that too. and maybe every other week some whole wheat buns just layered with cottage cheese and normal cheese. still sticking to the hardcore 23:1 IF but now have to cut back on most foods but i am just feeling good. you are what you eat

"1 gram of sugar oh no!!!!!! IM gonna weigh as much as a car!!!!" It's the sugar industry's fault for bashing fat when fat is needed in your body. We fell for that and now all of what fat should have been in foods is now sugar. Its not a coincidence when we introduced fat free foods obesity sky rocketed. It's not necessarily the companies fault, the sugar industry has a monopoly over nearly everything food related

Every food has a sugar in it, whether it is natural or not. Yes, food companies add more artificial sweeteners than they should. Yes, people need to read labels if they want to be healthy. But cutting out all sugars is impossible if you still eat food. Plus you need sugars for the biological processes in your body to function normally. Same with fats and same with proteins. The macromolecules you consume from your food intake helps you live. Be wary of what you eat if it is too much negativity, such as bad cholesterol or artificial sweeteners. But natural carbohydrates and fats are good for you.

I agree that we need sugar; but they only condemned refined sugar, which is bad for you. As a matter of fact, all refined carbohydrates are bad. They did say fresh fruit is allowed on the 10-day challenge. So, they apparently recognize that sugar is good if it occurs naturally in food.

Have you noticed the price of sugar is becoming lower and lower in the supermarkets lately? Is this anything related to the decrease in consumption?
@Mesterick
@Mesterick 9 лет назад
If you want to be "paranoid" it's far more likely that the reduced price is an effort to drive up consumption. I'm not a tin foil beanie sort myself, but as the years go by I tend to look more and more unfavorably on any major industry. Case in point is the abuse of antibacterial substances and the long-term health risks that can have on people ranging from resistant bacteria to immune systems compromised by not enough early life exposure as children when our immune systems are developing and on to late-life complications resulting from continually not exercising our immune system. In this case there is more money to be made from pedaling the "cures" to all the harm that abuse of sugar causes than there is in selling sugar, and that money can be used to bring down the cost of sugar in order to drive up the need or desire for those "cures." Sure, it's "paranoiac" thinking, but it does make sense. It's also all too plausible given mankind's history with greed at the cost of the public health.

I can't believe how crazy people go over sweets to say you can't go a couple of days without cookies or ice cream is unbelievable. you mean to tell me you have to eat that everyday? you're really craving sweets that bad? now I could see if you were a high or pregnant. or maybe this is for people who don't have to worry about rent or bills because I walked past Candy and sweets all the time at the grocery store and never think about getting it because I'm too worried about my bills or how much money I have left to feed my kids or make car repairs Exedra exedra. I love water Gatorade and I was raised on Kool-Aid growing up which was extremely unhealthy as a kid specially drinking it everyday. I just had a scare with fasting glucose numbers being very slightly above 100 but, thank goodness my A1C levels are in good shape. My doctor told me at this point, I am not on pace to develop diabetes. However, this was a wake-up call to me and I am planning not to cut sugar out entirely but, drastically reduce my sugar intake. It's also a matter of eating better, controlling portions, daily exercise and finally, reducing stress! Not the easiest thing to do in this world. Especially when you have a family! I hope I can do it!

A1C really is a last call for diabetes, it shows disease too late as fasting glucose. Fasting insulin, glucose tolerance test and insulin at it are what really tells how close you're to diabetes. Read "Diabetes epidemic & You", it talks about how important those tests are, and how much are already sick, pretty scary and not surprising numbers I would say.

A very important nutritional factor in obesity that the documentary FED UP failed to mention is nutritional density of food . For example the role of added sugar in foods was cited as a major cause of obesity and the reason sugar causes obesity was given a rapid rise in blood sugar which triggers a spike in insulin which lowers the blood sugar by storing blood sugar as fat but this just scratches the surface . Fiber is listed as the sole factor in mitigating the ill effects of added sugar -while presence or absence of the vitamins , minerals , enzymes , coenzymes and phytonutrients in the sweet foods is totally skipped . I suggest that even greater dietary factors in obese vs healthy people are 1) Nutritional Dense Vs Nutritionally SPARSE Foods( aka calories ) Nutritionally DENSE foods have MORE vitamins , minerals , enzymes , coenzymes and phytonutrients delivered in fewer calories . Nutritionally SPARSE Foods have LESS vitamins , minerals , enzymes , coenzymes and phytonutrients in MORE calories. 2) “CELLULAR STARVATION” comes from eating foods that fail to supply what the cells of our bodies need to feel vigorous and vibrantly healthy . ) FOR EXAMPLE : There is a huge difference in then NUTRIENT DENSITY of maple syrup and refined sugars. Maple, syrup comes from a sap from a tree that has roots spreading 100 ft wide x 40 ft deep which pick up many trace minerals from soils that have not been depleted by tilling and erosion . Then 30-40 gallons of this sap is concentrated into 1 gallon of syrup so what we have here is a very nutrient dense food that will deliver a vast array of minerals that our cells need to metabolize the sugars AND to raise the alkalinity of our blood which helps to neutralize lactic acid in our muscles so we don’t feel as fatigued and hungry. White sugar comes from shallow rooted grasses grown in field s that have been depleted of minerals by ploughing . The grasses do not pick up the vast array of trace minerals that trees do . Then the field is set on fire to burn off the outer husks leaving the only the juice contacting stalks . Then the sap is skimmed so that the molasses which contain the minerals is removed and the resultant white sugar has no minerals or vitamins to buffer the acidity or deliver the minerals to our blood and cells needed to metabolize the sugar . The result is our muscles cells feel fatigued and as if something is missing and continue to signal for more food. If maple syrup is eaten with a porridge of whole oats with a ¼ teaspoon per serving of KELP powder mixed in and whole legumes or nonfat milk it will provide steady energy for hours . The kelp and maple syrup will correct mineral deficiencies (INCLUDING IODINE WHICH IS SO IMPORTANT FOR PROPER THYROID FUNCTION WHICH IS SO IMPORTANT FOR VIGOROUS METABOLISM Especially if eaten with raw veggies and certain fruits like raisins date sand figs . But the same dish prepared with refined sugar or honey and WITHOUT kelp would deprive the cells of this big dose of trace minerals (especially iodine) and lead to lower metabolism increased fatigue and hunger ( food cravings ) Thus FED UP failed to mention that food cravings are to a great extent caused by enzyme mineral starved cells sending messages to the brain that something is missing and that these cravings can be greatly alleviated by adding mineral dense foods to whole grain porridges served with whole legumes . Served with fresh raw cabbage slices (½ “ thick to provide vitamins and enzymes ) which could be quarter and dipped in the whole grain/legume porridge and eaten like pizza ) and a whole carrot and 2-3 cherry tomatoes per student . There would be no food cravings from cellular starvation and its much cheaper than fast food to prepare. The same thing could be eaten every day with no deficiencies. To recap : A school lunch of : 1) Whole grain porridge made from freshly ground grains and whole legumes cooked together with added maple or chopped whole dates and powdered kelp for minerals and iodine ( in a one large bowl ) sprinkled with chia seeds 2) Fresh raw cabbage slices / 1 whole carrot / 2-3 cherry tomatoes on a plate 3) A carton of nonfat milk and maybe a sprinkle of chia seeds Handed to every child Would provide every brain , muscle , gland , cell with all they need to feel vigorous , and vibrant and no cellular starvation triggered food cravings Give no other food choices to ruin the children's appetite “the best Sauce in the world is hunger” . If they are hungry they will eat it with relish

Most people don't even know how to figure out how much sugar is in a product . Yes it can say 8 grams in a serving . Well 1 teaspoon is equal to 4.2 grams . My point is if producers put how much sugar by spoon- cup measurements on labels , it may get more people to cut back . Like for instance a 20 oz Gatorade has 34 grams. So it has over 8 teaspoons !! Yet people will drink that over soda thinking it's a better choice SMH

Its self control, and the parents control over what their kids eats. Everything with balance is good. However part of the blame is the "food company" for just promoting and producing a lot of unhealthy food, not only with saturated gluten ,fat,and sodium. But with sometimes with chemicals and synthesized food. Because its cheaper to manufacture and gains good profit. By the way, it was hard for me to reduce sugar,salt in my daily diet but its worth it. A quick tip is to go around the super market where fruits and vegetables are, rather than the middle section where the unhealthy food is literary enclosing you.
