If anything, it's the reverse, not holding liars accountable hurts future victims, because now nobody knows if the victim was found to be telling the truth or not and there will always be doubt that it's just a biased system, instead of a fair trial. I believe if people make false accusations and it’s proven that the accusations are false, the accuser should then be put on trial and it should have the same sentencing as what the accused could have gotten if they were found guilty. Like if a person falsely accuses someone of rape and the sentence for being found guilty of rape is let’s say 5-15 years, the accuser should then be given the same sentence after the are charged with false reporting and found guilty. When people are held accountable for their actions, it will stop a majority of the false testimonies from being brought, but the real victims will still come forward.

Let punitive damages be an amount that will hurt. 3-5% of whatever Yale's worth would be a good place to start. Secondly, how much is a degree from Yale worth? I assume the student was on track to graduate just fine. Let him be compensated for the present value of however much a median Yale degree holder makes over 40 years. This is good to hear. I had a friend who was a victim of false accusations back when i was in college. She asked him out, he turned her down, and she went and claimed he SA'd her. Stuck to her story hard and despite the evidence being essentially non existent, it boiled down to he-said she-said because he had been at home all day, so he didn't really have any proof. He was convicted and spent 4 years in jail before that girls conscience caught up to her and she admitted to lying about the whole thing because she was upset at rejection, and it took another year for him to finally be released after she admitted it. That's 5 years he will never get back. He lost his college scholarship, he lost his chance at a career. He was a pariah, he had to move to another state after he got out, and even after that he was still labbeled a predator. Because there was a girl upset he didn't want to date her. You know what happened to her after? Not a thing. Zero, zip, nada. The worst thing that happened to her was her asking for his forgiveness and him telling her to get bent. That's it. So i think this needs to happen more. This needs to become a more wide spread rule. I've watched what false allegations can do to an innocent man, and the liar should not be allowed to just get away with it. Those who are real victims should have no fear of punishment because they did nothing wrong. Facts and evidence vindicate those telling the truth. The liars should know they will face punishment.
