The idea that holding liars accountable means hurting future victims is one of the biggest lies society tells us.

Not allowing him to sue will encourage more women to come forward with more lies going unchecked. Good for him.

She isn't a victim. She isn't being sued for speaking up, she's being sued for lying.

"It will discourage victims from coming forward"? Noooo, it will discourage *liars* from trying to ruin peoples' lives out of fleeting regret.

The fact that the actual victims name is all over the internet, yet the false accuser is still listed as "accuser" or "Jane Doe", is clarity enough on why this potential lawsuit is needed to proceed.

This happened to me. Even the professor that "represented" me at my school's "trial" resigned because as he put it, "There is nothing fair about this process, it's a witch hunt. The school has seriously departed from common sense and any form of due process."

I lost an amazing career over a false allegation, even after it was proven false. If men could actually start holding these vile women accountable it would go a long way to repairing the damage they're doing.

A false accusation should carry a minimum sentence of 5 years, and colleges should be completely stripped of their ability to hold unqualified "court" hearings.

That a school specializing in law and legal works would hold such a sham "trial" is disgusting.

My father was a very liberal lawyer in Scotland. But on the first rape case he was ever involved in, the accuser broke down under cross and admitted that she had made up the charge to get revenge on her partner for leaving her. It made him very cautious about rape cases for the rest of his long and distinguished career. These he-says/she-says issues are fraught with difficulty.

My opinion (being a woman myself) if you make false claims and your proven to have made false claims then 100 Million times YES, YOU NEED TO BE SUED! Not allowing men to sue women over defamation in this area only encourages more women to make false allegations. When you lie, man or woman, you reap what you sow.

The fact he needed permission to sue is already an irreconcilable atrocity.

I got falsely accused of sexual harassment at work. I asked them if they wanted to see the text messages she sent me even the pictures she just sent me that morning. They declined to see the pictures, read the text messages and declined to take action against me.

Not only was the woman able to make the accusation, she apparently was able to do so with the safety of remaining anonymous from the public.

My question is who is this woman who potentially defamed him? Doesn't she lose all anonymity when dude got acquitted? Keeping her anonymous literally endangers anyone else who might try to date her or even just walk past her. These women who falsely accuse men shouldn't get to hide behind their so-called victim status. She needs to be exposed so no one else falls prey to her accusations.

False accusations of sexual assault should require jail time a public apology and a huge fine. There’s no quicker way to destroy a man’s life than this.

Those activists should be angry at the person making the false charges and the University.

Women like her give women a bad name. SMH, she was not too drunk. She used poor judgement in sleeping with him, and she had regret. Buyers remorse. She is a disgrace. He should sue her.

As a woman who has survived more than one of these horrible experiences, I just have to say it's about damn time! There isn't a lot that pisses me off more than someone making false accusations of rape or any abuse! I've been saying for decades that anyone who falsely accuses someone else should be given the same amount of jail time as the person whom they falsely accused would have gotten, had they been found guilty. So, yes, he should sue her and the college! And both parties should have to pay up. We really need to push through some changes so that there are very dire consequences for falsely accusing someone. It wouldn't put a stop to the activity, but it would definitely slowed down a lot of these false accusations because if a supposed victim realizes that they can do hard time over something like this, they're going to be less likely to make that accusation money is just not a big enough deterrent

It would only discourage ***false*** accusers. Genuine accusers would have nothing to fear if they're telling the truth.

The false accuser should be charged with a felony but suing her and the university is the next best thing.

I never understood why there are no consequences for trying to absolutely ruin someone's life like this. These types of accusations are not something people tend to just bounce back from easily. It seems that this affects them for a really long time in general and often ends with them completely uprooting their lives because their reputation is destroyed, no matter what the truth is.

Yale should never have initiated a quasi-legal process while also denying the defendant his rights at the same time. They wouldn't be in trouble if they had just done nothing. You can't just subvert an existing legal ruling that way; otherwise what's the point of the rule of law? I hope he sues them for *everything* .

He should win the entire amount and Yale's accreditation should be revoked.

On behalf of all mothers out here trying to raise sons he has our undying gratitude for fighting this. Colleges have been doing this to male students for a long time and getting away with it. He deserves every penny of what he’s asking for from Yale, Yale should be required to stop these ridiculous hearings altogether because the law speaks on these matters, and that young woman belongs in jail. Period. If this were a situation where the ruling was sketchy i might feel otherwise but the evidence was overwhelming that this young woman is a liar and lying about SA should have the same penalty as committing it.

I was accused by an ex of stalking and harassment, police ignored all the evidence, and it took the case going to court and a good solicitor (that's a UK lawyer) for me to be proven innocent. I truly believe that a person should face criminal charges, bare minimum, if they knowingly give false statements to the police. Having to go to court and being told you are going to prison, despite being innocent, is not a situation one can easierly forget, it's been 15 years for me and I still have neightmares.

I hope they don’t settle. This is a great case to create some case law that actually protects men in these situations. For the sake of all men, he needs to take this to trial

I think his accuser should be named by now. She’s been found to be a liar, she’s tried to destroy someone, why on earth should she remain anonymous. Making this public won’t stop women who have been assaulted coming forward. It might stop those that haven’t making false claims. I’m a woman and hate when other women do this. It dilutes the very real challenges that those who have been assaulted face.

I will never understand how a false accusation is not a criminal offense. Yet Perjury and filing a false report is. Makes no sense.

After all the work required to bring her lies to light she still won't see the inside of a prison cell no matter what the outcome is and that to me is the biggest crime in all of this

There should be legal consequences for false accusations; most men’s lives and career is ruined by the allegations alone. Most don’t have the funds or opportunity to sue for defamation

A friend of mine got expelled from med school in TX after his ex made false allegations after a bad break up. He was acquitted and she was later charged with some drug offenses and the school still refused to let him back. He sued the school, breached sovereign immunity, and eventually the school capitulated and re-enrolled him. His case is now used as precedence for other similar cases in TX. As far as I know, this was never covered by the news.

The school should be shut down. The accuser put in prison for a minimum of 20 years.

Imagine a "justice system" where you have to have a court graciously allow you to sue the person who destroyed your life with a lie.

The whole "this will make victims not want to come forward"... WRONG...this will make people who make FALSE allegations not come forward. This isn't about not being able to prove a bad thing happened, it is when it is proven YOU LIED. They are not the same things at all. It is not the holding accountable LIARS that hurt actual victims, but THE LIARS that do.

False accusations should be subject to jail time.

It's not discouraging victims, it's discouraging liars and the liars that wait past the statute of limitations to suddenly make their accusation.

It is utterly distgusting that there is a contingent of people out there who are more worried about how this event will affect future reports of assault, rather than the fact that some gold digger tried to weaponize the justice system. I hope he gets every penny of that lawsuit.

My belief, if you falsely accuse someone of rape, you should face the same punishment that the accused would have faced if convicted.

my sister accused my father of abuse when she was 6, he pleaded guilty and got 4 years. Few weeks later, she told mum i did something. For the next few weeks my mother beat the crap out of me, held a knife to my privates and threatened to cut if off. Was only after my grampa got involved did my sister admit she lied about me because "i wanted to make him disappear like daddy." And yes, she lied about him too. Courts didnt want to hear it and he had to serve the full 4 years. When he came, never heard from him again.

In the UK it was made ILLEGAL to make a false allegation and a chargeable offence. A woman was sentenced to I think it was 3 years?

He deserves the 100 million settlement! They robbed him of graduating from an Ivy League college and potentially ruined his life and his ability for a very lucrative career. I really hope he wins. My teenage son was falsely accused during metoo. It shattered his confidence in life going forward. He was treated like a monster by the students AND the school faculty even after it came out that he was innocent. We moved him away, to a new state and school which helped but he’ll never be the funny, sociable, trusting and outgoing person he once was again. Not all victims are telling the truth. Not all victims are women.

I believe if the false accuser intentionally lies in their accusations and completely fabricates their story like we have seen so many times, then they deserve to be held accountable for the same punishment as the accused. This sort of stuff ruins peoples lives and often there is no consequences for the false accuser. This man will still be called a rapist for the rest of his life regardless of the court decision. I would take absolutely no less than a full, formal, public, and broadcasted apology from both parties, along with a FULL refund and all expenses paid for future education in relation to the schooling I was there for from Yale, on top of having both parties pay for all my legal fees in relation to the acusations and subsequent lawsuits. Anything I get beyond that, is just icing

If this would happen vice-versa it would blow up in Media from the first Yale guilty ruling.

This is long past due. The only way to keep false accusations in check is to have consequences for the false accuser. Considering the harm to his college carreer and his reputation, the consequences have to be substantial. She, personally, needs to pay him a large sum.

In highschool I was accused of rape at least 3 times. I was popular and it was a tool they could easily use whenever they wanted to get attention or have the entire school hate me because they didnt like me. And it worked. This is different than actually going after me legally than highschool “drama”, but from my first hand experience it is absolutely ridiculous how women can just use this to destroy someone they dont like with no possible repercussions.

Please don't settle. We NEED a legal precedent for false accusations and kangaroo courts! It's the only way that things will change.

We have a problem in our society. I spoke to someone close to me about this and their reaction was "Good! Yale has a standard. Imagine the bad press if they let him stay." My response was, "I can imagine the bad press they're getting for expelling an INNOCENT student on a false narrative." I had to break this down piece by piece for my person to even begin to understand. Society and tiktok have so blinded people from thinking with their own brains.

Why would one need "permission" to sue someone for defamation?

I'm so sick of the "this could discourage victims from coming forward" argument whenever false claims get exposed. If your claim can get so easily derailed if it gets held up under scrutiny or even better, if you can be so easily discouraged when a false claim gets derailed, then your claim probably doesn't have a lot of merit. The argument that it will keep actual victims from coming forward is what they use to keep false accusers from being prosecuted. It is all about women getting to do or say what they want and not be held responsible.

What bothers me the most is even after being found not guilty, having a college commit Kangaroo Court, and having an ongoing lawsuit/counter-suit, we still don't know what the woman looks like or her name. At what point does the accuser have to face repercussions from the public?

This is insane. And even after all this, the accuser is anonymous with her face blurred and the poor guy whose life she tried to ruin has his face all over media.

Imo the accuser should be expelled and face twice the time the crime she accused him off, because it was a false accusation that ruined his life she MUST be held accountable. And for the university that US100 million is enough to at least make them do a proper hearing next time something like that happens, because unffortunately it will, it's humans after all.

A woman in the uk called elenor williams made multiple false allegations about multiple men, totally fictitious and was recently jailed for eight and a half years. She and her ilk have done so much damage its sickening it makes it so hard for true victims.

Regret is not trauma. Some of these women seem to think an awkward hookup is somehow an assault.

I have worked in LE for over 20 years. A few things that I wish the general public would grasp: 1. There is tremendous pressure (from the public/government officials) to convict on these cases, no matter what the evidence shows. 2. There are a large number of false claims of sexual assault, particularly in colleges. I have seen many accusations fall apart when the evidence is examined. 3. Regret is not rape. Many times, both parties are too drunk to consent and wake up next to each other with regrets.

Finally!!!!! I pray he gets justice and Yale is required to pay the full 100 million he's seeking. False accusers and the institutions that knowingly side with false accusers must have an extremely painful financial penalty for doing so. The fundamental question is how much is one's name, reputation, livelihood and future earnings worth to the wrongfully accused? This is needed to set the precedent of accountability.

Cases like this must also be aired on TV or allowed to be recorded by defendant. These false accusers and the liberal schools must be exposed for their disgraceful conduct.

sometimes going to court isn't about the money... if I were to sue somebody, anybody for $1 total for false allegations and if that court were to rule in my favour, depending on the justice system involved, if they were to do it again they can have a criminal charge of contempt of court and that's when the government has me as a witness, not the plaintiff

In all cases of serious crime, the university should turn the matter over to the police entirely and abide by the decision of the courts.

She basically had buyers remorse. She slept with him willingly and then regretted it later, but instead of understanding and taking accountability for her mistake she felt she made, she tried to pass the buck to him to make herself feel better. The only thing this entire situation is going to do is make people think twice before making false allegations against another person who is innocent because they feel like they made a mistake.

As a survivor of abuse I fully support this man to sue that woman. People that lie about being assaulted or abused are a huge part of the problem. Also, as a mother of a son, I can’t help but think of my own son possibly having this done to him, and it makes it even more disgusting.

This is good to hear. I had a friend who was a victim of false accusations back when i was in college. She asked him out, he turned her down, and she went and claimed he SA'd her. Stuck to her story hard and despite the evidence being essentially non existent, it boiled down to he-said she-said because he had been at home all day, so he didn't really have any proof. He was convicted and spent 4 years in jail before that girls conscience caught up to her and she admitted to lying about the whole thing because she was upset at rejection, and it took another year for him to finally be released after she admitted it. That's 5 years he will never get back. He lost his college scholarship, he lost his chance at a career. He was a pariah, he had to move to another state after he got out, and even after that he was still labbeled a predator. Because there was a girl upset he didn't want to date her. You know what happened to her after? Not a thing. Zero, zip, nada. The worst thing that happened to her was her asking for his forgiveness and him telling her to get bent. That's it. So i think this needs to happen more. This needs to become a more wide spread rule. I've watched what false allegations can do to an innocent man, and the liar should not be allowed to just get away with it. Those who are real victims should have no fear of punishment because they did nothing wrong. Facts and evidence vindicate those telling the truth. The liars should know they will face punishment.

I hope this opens up all of the colleges throughout the country to liability. The fact that they've been able to get away with kangaroo courts for at least half a decade now by blatantly violating rights is absurd.

I think its' important to note that she is NOT being sued over her statements to police and in court. She is being sued over the statements she made in the sham hearing that got him expelled.
