Shailesh Mathur where did you find this video? Thanks for posting. With This kind of access, it would have been Great to know the actual weight and balance of Roger's rackets. I asked p1 once and they responded as if it was the topmost secret in the world and they wouldn't divulge any information.
If you look at the tension head closely at 5:27 it does not move 2 times forth and back. The prestretch function on the mains was NOT activated. (I string on Baiardo myself.)
It’s funny how he strings it pretty much middle of the range or even on the Lower side. Some people myself included do prefer that trampoline feel. In comparison, Seles strung hers at 83 lbs. on a 102 sq in yonex. And Graf who plays a smaller head than Federer strung hers at 64 lbs
you can see the machine set at 26.5 for the mains but for the last mains on either end he changes the tension to 31.9. That seems pretty high change in tension for the last two mains. That's like 10 pound change
Yes, but I think he prefers natural gut on the mains for the feel and because he can handle it and change strings every nine games. The main reason for using the LXN on the crosses would be for durability
Luxilon logically should be on the mains (ala Murray). Maybe it’s for better bite on his serve. I’ll ask Fed when I see him on Sept 18th and report back.
Actually no he has a low tension and is having to move them to the right spot so in fact they are not losing tension he just didn’t put the strings in the exact spot where they needed to be
gumbo: you can cut strings, but on a diagonal from the center of the racket, cutting one main and one cross at once. Every cut is alternated, along the diagonal one above the center and one below, till you reach the frame. That came in the instructions of my stringing machine. The girl in the video cut wrong the strings.
With carbon or graphite frames you don't need to cut it diagonal we did that when the frames were aluminum to release the tension evenly. Graphite frames hold their shape so just pop a few in the center and cut in a cross.
Believe me he is not. Thats just swiss mentality. We in switzerland know how to understand his kind of arrogance, because everyone here is like this. Just the rest of the world thinks he is very kind because he acting like a swiss. Thats just acting.
This Nidzo guy seems very bitter about Federer's wealth and accomplishments.Didn't know there were whiny little resentful minons in Switzerland. I guess there's one.
Sharada Kamble Idk, it was really nice, he is a cool guy, but I had it all planned in my head of what I was gonna say to him. I was so disapointed with myself😂 Hopefully if I met other players it won't go the same way.
A bit of a translation here for non stringers about Rogers setup. Pre stretch Gut Mains-Natural Gut Babolat VS, 3 racquets with mains at 27kg (59.5lbs), 2 racquets with mains 26.5kg (58.4lbs). Crosses 1.5kg lower than gut mains on all racquets. Crosses-Poly Luxilon Alu Power Rough, 3 racquets with crosses at 25.5kg (56.2lbs), 2 racquets with crosses at 25kg (55.1lbs). Roger has confirmed this setup in other videos and Open stringer staff have confirmed these tensions to be correct. He previously strung around 22kgs(48lbs) with his 90sq inch racquet but now uses a larger 97sq inch RF97A, thus requiring higher tension for similar feel and control.
Thanks for the info! I thought it was a parody video of some sort when Roger said he needed his rackets at almost 60lbs! I know he strung his 90sq inch rackets at well below 50lbs but I didn't know the same feel would require such a high tension on a racket that is frankly not much larger.
so funny; like it has an aura or something; like a tennis halo hologram hovering over it that zaps everyone that touches it; so ridiculous its funny! hey I got a pic of Paul Newman leaning on my shoulder! did I pass OUT? NOPE! I chuckled n said thanks! then I left him with his buddies so I didnt interfere with his life too much. ya its true...
Just spend a week playing matches with the Fed tension combination of 59 on main and 56 on cross with same gut / poly hybrid, I must say Fed is truly a GOD be able to hit so consistently right on sweetspot on EVERY shot! Because my experience with this pattern is if you hit right on the spot, the feel and power is incredible!, but if you are off just a little bit, YUCH, doesn't apply as much on the volley, very precise feel on that stroke, but man, he must hit them flush 99% of time, ridiculous!
I'm a squash player so forgive me if I'm wrong on this but Federer's string seem pretty loose for tennis. Standard for squash players in terms of string tension is usually about 26/27kg, so I was pretty shocked to hear he has his rackets strung almost the same tension as your standard squash racket. Just shows how incredible a player Federer is if he can time his shots so well with such a low string tension.
@@francodevaglia123 Just realised I meant 27lbs for squash rackets, and now seeing how tight that Federer has his rackets it kind of makes sense, as he always seems like more of a control player.
I cannot imagine differently, but you're right.. this guy is a pro and does it about double the speed of the average guy, but it still takes min. 15 mins for 1 racket.. and he gave him 5.. so you can count, and he has probably plenty of other players to do as well.. some players need like 9 or 10 rackets set up for every match
The technology needed to make this job fully automated would be insane and extremely expensive because of the precision you need and because space between each groomet is different in all racquets. Also, it's not only precision but speed too. I'm a stringer and I'm able to string almost any racquet in sub-10 minutes time (depending on string pattern and type of string) and definitely it would be really hard to match those times for a machine with such confidence as we humans are capable of. Sure it'll be more automated in future, but I still think it won't be soon.
@@davidmoreno790 yeah i can imagine (maybe its not?) that stringing dozens of these per day for years... can't be good on the hands and fingers. if we can build manufacturing machines that can build cars with thousands of parts, we should be able to do it for these!
There are stringing machines as low as $700 that do an excellent job even for standards of the pros, but that stringer would probably set you back about 6k new.
@@yadaroni The pluses for the Wilson Baiardo are for the stringer's back. Not sure how professional you can be with a $700 machine. When I say professional I am not talking about for high school kids and college players but for those guy and gals on the pro circuit. I have a Prince Neos crank, have a Wise tensioner for it, and a Babolat Star 5 constant pull with 6 point mounting and swivel clamps. Babolat seems to be out of the stringing machine business now.
@@imateapot51 Actually, there are $300 machines that can obtain the exact same specs as a $6,000. machine. The difference is that only an expert with ALLOT of experience can get the consistent results needed for professional level specifications. I know one stringer that can come within a fraction of a gram of tension every time with a Gamma X-2 manual machine. Professionals prefer the machines because they allow for newer stringers to achieve professional results with little training. Also, if your company is worth millions, why would you not spring for a fast reliable machine that all but guarantees consistent results?
@@yadaroni Well drop weights are constant pull but there are other issues. Two point mounting. Even the Neos which is also two point but wider so it is really 4 point. Neither as good as six point. The drop wieights with floating clamps - never used one but when I watch videos I would be half way done with the crosses after they do a few mains. So I think people should get a table top with fixed or swivel clamps, 6 point mounting, and replace the dropweight or crank with a Wise tensioner.
Was the camera intentionally pulled away at the 10:00 min. mark during the starting clamp removal? I was curious to see how that pull went on the first pass of the crosses.
I heard Federer asking for 27 on 3 racquets and 26.5 on 2 ..why the machine says 25? Am i missing something here? I know it's a 2 yr old post but please i need answer from the stringer
Probably the 25 kg is his cross. He said 1.5 kg less on the crosses. He said 27 kg (59.5 lbs) in the mains with 1.5 kg less on the crosses. So three racquets have 27 kg (59.5 lbs) mains and 25.5 kg crosses (56.2 lbs). Five total racquets. Two of the racquets have 25 kg (55 lbs) tension on the cross as well. Hope that helps :)
@@tonymarc8852 Federer play 25 crosses natural gut and 27 alu power rough. just if you wanted to know. I dont now if the 1.30 or 1.25 alu rough i would guess 1.25 tho
I find stenciling with my Wilson and red marker leaves paint on the ball. Overly excessive paint? Very smooth stringing and nice to see Parnell tie knots! Great athlete there, btw ;-)
Roger is so cool and notice how he doesn't even flinch when he see's you recording and the autographs, no problem! Roger is the greatest of all time and a true sportsman! But, Dude, you got this close to video record Roger Federer walking into the racquet stringing area and you used the worse video camera or cell phone in the world! Wow! What phone is that a 1999 cell phone? Dude they have phones for $29 Dollars that record with better quality! Sorry, but it just got to me....
RF IS A PERSON SUSCEPTIBLE TO MALADIES LIKE ANYONE ELSE... DO NOT HERO WORSHIP, AS RF HAS BODILY FUNCTIONS AS U OR I... THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE "WITHOUT THE FANFARE/MEDIA ATTENTION, THAT CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY LONG PAST TENNIS!... TRY ENGINEERING FOR ONE. NOTE; THE STRINGING FELLOW MAY WANT TO CONSIDER WORKING ON THOS " NOTICEABLE MAN BOOBS UNDER HIS T-SHIRT"... DISGUSTING! SIMPLE PUSH UPS WILL ALLEVIATE THAT HORRID LOOK...
Wtf and LOL. First you preach for real contribution in society, all good and fine but then you cannot but go on to make an absurd note on some bizarre man boobs issue which suddenly seems to be one of those worst maladies humankind is facing! Gimme a break, jester. Or: Go and find a cure to the this horrid boob thing to make your own great contribution to the mankind and beyond. Shouting here surely ain´t one.
It's the same as the RF autograph retail, he just picks out the ones that feel right to him, whereas we just have to live with what we got. Fed doesnt use any paint job prostock sticks.
@@andresfelipevalbuenagelvis2415 yes, twice actually. Once from the prostaff 85 to the 90 sq inch one. And once again from the 90 to the 97. In the early days there were differences between his prostock and retail, but from ncode 90 onwards, Roger actually uses the same mold as retail RF racquets. Except he picks out the heavier ones that suit his feel from a batch. And adds string savers and pads on his strings for better string feel/ maintenance.
Wish I could string as well as that. What tension did he have his rackets? 3x59.5lbs mains. 3x58.4lbs mains. Love electronic stringing machines. Constant pull. Better than crank machines.
@@KimoRafea is that always the case, or since you are stringing nat gut and poly just with his rackets? I usually do 1 kg with just poly and and the same if length is poly and crosses is gut.
Google User He does but this is just a sponsor thing I’m sure as everything here is WIlson, the table cloth, the machine, the banners the T shirt I’m sure its a sponsorship thing
GodGod KB Roger or someone else will put them in. It’s easy to do and there’s a little tool you use to insert them. You can buy them at Tennis stores or on line. Sampras used to use them and would actually carry the tool in his pocket and insert some during a game! It’s mainly for the gut
wow. Just like that. I imagined he had the world's top stringer on payroll using a high tech machine in a secret laboratory or something, but no, he drops them off at the stringer like any other tennis bum, what a nice guy Roger seems to be.
You could get 10+k for one single inch of a Wimbeldon championship match, in-play, string. You could get a THOUSAND for one single inch of a Wimbeldon championship match, not-in-play, string. You could get HUNDREDS for one single inch of any Wimbeldon match, in-play, string. etc. That stuff is like throwing away Beatle hair.
Didnt he say 27 and 26 1/2 ? Machine set at 25 LOL Right under 15 minutes on 2 piece stringing without double pulls from mount to dismount, pretty good bro!
Why do they make the 6 point mount so lightly touching the racket? On my 6 point stringer, if i don’t make rackets tight and snug, the frame becomes circular.
Roger's RF97 racket is not same as mine. Cause I tried stringing same with that stringer, but my RF97's gromet is not allowed me to knot the cross-start-string with cross-2nd-string(same as last ending knot). There are 2EA share hole at main-string gromet only with starting knot. Could someone tell me why does the racket is different from basic shape?
Fed uses a gut/poly hybrid often referred to as "Champion's Choice". Mains are Wilson 16 gut and crosses are Luxilon Alu Power Rough 16L. I use a very similar setup in my Yonex VCORE Pro 330 and it doesn't destroy my arm. The gut mains make a huge difference in comfort compared to a full bed of poly.
