I feel bad every time someone gets killed in a car crash knowing that they were probably heading home from a hard day at work or picking up there children crushes my soul
I think of this too. I just saw an accident today , or the aftermath, it was a service truck of some sort and another vehicle and they had the whole intersection taped off, probably a death. when I think of how I feel after a long day at work in construction and picture myself in that guys place it is heart breaking, whether it be that HE died that way, just wanting to get home after work, or that another person died and all that comes with that ,it would make for a long miserable day for sure, it is horrible either way.
Upsetting stuff. It goes to show that life waits for no one, we gotta appreciate and enjoy every day as much as possible and be mindful not to hurt others.
6 people died in the pile up, another 65 hospitalised with injuries. It’s absolutely horrific. My heart goes out to all those affected and their loved ones
It seems like they were going 50mph which is already quite slow when the speed limit is 70 on Texan roads. It was cold but likely that all it took to do this was one crash and the cars/trucks didn’t have enough time to slow down. It was an unfortunate accident where one mistake costs multiple deaths. Edit: I’m well aware that going 70 those conditions is insane. I’m just saying how 50mph is quite slow already but on ice trying to break a dozen hundreds of meters away from the break lights is pointless especially if you’re driving a truck that weighs many tons.
Seeing the truck in your rear view mirror and knowing it can’t be stopped must be the most terrifying thing in the world. Rest In Peace to all who passed.
15+ year firefighter here, I've seen a lot, and that was hard to watch. We had something similar happen in Tampa last year. Always check your review mirror at a backup standstill and have an exit plan. IE: Drive into the median, exit the vehicle and shelter on the other side of a Jersey Barrier, have a plan. Get off your phone, and pay attention to your surroundings. It could save your life one day.
I thought it was 8? I remember being all over this when it happened. I remember the day it happened. It felt like it was a deeper cold that day. Like even where it was warm, it still felt cold. It was a cold from within kinda thing. It was scary. I remember being very worried for my husband. He’s off to work by 5:30 every day, he drives a big plumbers van. Just a bad day. And Im pretty sure 8 people died. Most of them were on their way to work so there was about one person per vehicle only a couple had more than one person. I think by the next morning I remember it going from 5 to 8. So maybe that was an old clip of one of the first reports? Before they found em all? Idk but this was tragic. I really can’t imagine the horror.
As a Canadian I have to say it's shocking to me to see so many people who don't understand the need to slow down in inclement weather. Many in Canada outlive their conditions but those cars on summer tires had no chance at that speed.
This was black ice, which practically is invisible. Also, I live in the area where the crash happened, the crash happened just a few dozen yards after a downhil, so it was hidden from those who were driving and they couldn't stop because of the speed they were going and the ice.
@PyramidgodMeekman6 I remember that day. There wasn't really any visible snow or I've, apart from the invisible black ice, so from the POV of the drivers it was just a clear but super cold morning.
Once I saw a flashing yellow light and warning to be prepared to stop. I was coming around circular concrete wall with no visible ability to see what was ahead of me. I complied and quickly came upon a stopped line of traffic. I stopped just in time. Immediately I looked in my mirror as now I was a sitting duck if the cars behind me did not obey the warning. Sure enough a policeman came around and nailed my car doing about $6000 in damage. I got out of the car and walked back to the policeman, and asked him why he did not obey the warning light. He said it wasn't flashing. I asked him to walk back to the sign with me to verify and he did. It was still flashing. Another policeman came to the collision site and after investigation came to me and said: "Hate to do this to one of my own, but he was guilty as Hell.
They both survived Toyota Fj dude survived and was a paramedic he got and Started helping right away and the white Silverado that went airborne driver survived from firefighters bodycam and they said we’re coming for you man so yeah
My dad said when he was driving he was only less than a mile away and he could hear the cars crashing, he was even headed that way. if he arrived any minute earlier i dont know what would have happened to him.
Terrifying. I remember one morning my dad rolled his truck and I was on the bus, I saw the aftermath firsthand. He was trapped and had to kick out the windshield. One of the worst things I've ever seen. That and the pictures of my moms rollover, my baby sister was in there. Luckily, everyone just got scrapes and bruises and survived.
That’s why many countries have regulations on winter tires. It won’t make you grip like dry roads but you won’t lose as much grip as all season or summer tires. $500-1000 for a extra set of winter wheels is a small price to pay to reduce chance of accident.
1) 500-1000 is a lot of money for a lot of people for something that will be used a couple of days a year. 1) a lot of those were series, and 1000.00 isn't going to get close to buying tires .
@@mimib8032 well if winter tires would only benefit you a couple days a year then you aren’t someone that should buy them. People buy brand new 40-50k suvs for the purpose of winter capabilities and then when the snow / ice comes their all season tires lack of grip comes as a surprise when they try to stop in time for a stopped car or red light. $500 is much cheaper than deductibles and time invested into dealing with results of a car accident.
I'm a truck driver in the DFW area. Pushing a 18 wheeler in the snow and ice is nothing to play around with. I slow it down to a creep. But you do have to always be aware of the surrounding vehicles. This was horrible. God bless the survivors and the ones that passed on.
They talked to a driver of the crash and he said everyone on that freeway was going at least 60mph so it make sense why that FedEx driver and other driver got out of control no slick going 60 and the hit the bridge and starts to slide those 18wheelers will double the speed with there cargo on a slide and be out of control could been provented if they read the warning sign hope a lot of them be charged that lives
@@josephdotson6208 I was in Oklahoma in this storm on the same highway. I watched dozens of trucks pass me. I was going between 25 and 40mph. 5 of them I ended up passing after they went in the ditch. There were dozens of accidents. After one of these morons almost got me involved in their stupidity I found a truck stop and got off the road.
I was in the middle of all of this madness and I'm on the road constantly through many different states. It seems that in fort Worth Dallas area they were not salting the roads nor did I see plows out and about very much. I didn't see them salting the roads at all. Having that salt on the road cuts through that ice and would save many lives if they were more prepared for these types of events. May God be with all the families affected by this event.
@@vegastopic4902 Why would he do that? The driver didn’t cause the crash. Black ice, concrete barriers so you couldn’t avoid wrecking, and a crash site already there caused the semi to crash.
This looks straight out of a movie like it’s something you can’t really process that well. Truly a horrible accident, may all those who passed Rest In Peace 🙏🏼
I don't know what I believe in but somthing to do with global warming and idk God could be on his way. That's just what I think of when I see this ice. Looks like a population controller or somthing
This makes me cry, especially watching the trucks. Imagine being a truck driver driving THAT and not being able to stop and KNOWING you’re about to slam into multiple people, ending their lives. My heart breaks for Texas- I wish everyone recovery and safety in the future ❤️
Don't drive at 70+ in your semi in icy/snowy conditions. All these big trucks piling in proves a willfully unsafe mentality by the truck drivers. I have exactly zero sympathy for that fedex driver. You know exactly what you're doing driving that fast in these conditions and if someone died from his impact hope the driver faces charges. Just blatantly irresponsible and negligent
@@slpater1 it was a downhill slope, trucker was probably not going fast but when there’s no brakes and a heavy load in the truck, the semi is going to be going fast no matter what he does
@@slpater1 you obviously haven't been on ice and probably don't even drive..if you're driving down a slope the car speeds up because it's going down a hill and it picks up momentum, now imagine that on ice......im pretty sure that's why the pile up happened anyways.
something that always makes me feel sad, is thinking, someone could have been coming from work from a hard day, probably made some friends, and was *killed* because of this, they never got to see their child graduate school, or have their own family. my heart goes out to all of those people who died.
It's difficult not to judge, but many "drivers" become more irresponsible in harsh weather conditions, raining, snowing, etc.. Many speed up, never keep a safe distance tailgating like lunatics.
And for anyone walking crossing the streets when there snow and ice on the roads PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE wait till cars come to a complete stop before trying to cross. There’s no telling if they for some reason aren’t able to stop or slow down.
I walk to most places if it’s within a 30 minute walk. Not only do I wait until cars have come to a complete stop, depending where I am, and how busy it is, I’ll wait until I’ve waived cars through. I’ll keep taking giant steps back from the corner, even though I tend to wait a good three feet from the curb. If it’s at night, more so. I can not make eye contact with the drivers, like you can during the day. I find most drivers appreciate it.
Good point. You could fall and slip and the car cannot stop or turn. I was in a neighborhood in Atlanta with hills working trying to recover a vehicle. I saw a car about to come down the hill. I told my co worker, carlton, hurry run behind a tree, hurry. And that car came down the road sliding out of control and ran through the snowy yard and crashed into a tree.
God rest their souls of those who were just parked in their car waiting. This was very hard to watch and imagining this as a way to go out is horrendous.
"there's no controlling the vehicle." Well if you just drove a little slower and avoided the side of the road, you wouldn't have had that problem there buddy. But by all means, never mention the obvious right?
This is awful to watch. Slow down everyone and take your time. That guy that fell off the overpass has to be the luckiest person ever. Had that truck landed on it's roof he would not still be here.
Thats why when you see a pile up of traffic ahead you slow down way before getting there and turn on your flasher for people in the back of you to warn them.
This is the worst way I can imagine a a person dying, imagine seeing that truck coming, and there being nothing you could do about it. I hope there is a heaven waiting for those people.
@@jimmycline4778 I agree with you on that one. Wood chipper and flying off back of motorcycle over a bridge (which has happened here) and definitely being burned alive in a car
Wow! I’m glad you made it, I hope you weren’t super badly injured. I can’t imagine how traumatizing it must be to be in that situation and witness all of that.
The dude who fell off the overpass is my worst nightmare. There’s this HUGE bridge I had to drive over every day and it’s over 100ft. into a River. There’s not much safety at the sides and I get anxiety even in summer driving over it.
Good to have anxiety driving over a bridge. It will keep your speed down and keep you safe. Some people have no fear and speed then their card gets pulled. Safe travels.
Pretty simple drive for the conditions of its a possibility of freezing weather then go slow enough that if you do hit a patch of ice you don't dukes of hazard to your death. I feel bad for the guy we all have done it but let's learn and admit how stupid it is when we all do it

@@Auburn7543 no we moved 1 year ago and thats when she no longer needed to take that route, I’m saying that she would be on the roads around that time in the morning not that she stopped taking that road like a day before this happened
Why do people drive exactly the same as if it was normal weather in icy conditions.... then seem surprised when they crash?!? This is horrific! My prayers go out to all involved and their families.
The sad part is that a lot of people had their car doors jammed shut when they first hit, that they weren’t able to get out, and were hopelessly stranded in their car hit after hit...
The car seat is designed to protect you, even in multiple impacts. Once outside a car there is nothing to protect you, which is actually a bigger problem for accident related injuries. People always want to get out of their car, they all fail to realize without proper body support, which a car seat offers, small injuries become major problems.
I can’t imagine the horror of being at the front of the pile up and having to feel he force of 100+ people slamming knowing that’s people dying. I hope the drivers get help for what I’m sure will be terrible PTSD
I doubt this caused anyone severe PTSD except for MAYBE the people affected by the semis. It was definitely scary, but anyone with thick skin can mentally overcome sitting in ur car on the freeway while you hear thuds as cars pile up behind you.
@@rowanburke4070 imagine thinking at night knowing you killed a family because you couldn’t stop your semi truck. That would mess with someone’s head definitely
I was in the middle of that accident it felt like a train slammed into us, we were all thinking of leaving the car and checking up on the other people in front and back of us but we were to scared to go out side we all felt a fear that was unexplainable as if we knew death was outside the car. The idea of stepping outside and going into cold cause me to have an immediate panic attack. This was a real nightmare I'm extremely thankful God and the guardian angels were with us. My heart breaks for the families of those lost in this horrific event. The fact that you can see my car in this video, makes me grateful to be alive. Thank you to the emergency crew that helped me and my children.
My uncle was involved he was there but he did get hurt a lot, he wasn’t really near the truck, he just crashes into the truck cause he wasnt paying attention to the road, instead he was paying attention on the crash

Allot of the time (I did not say all of the time and nor the majority of the time) with today's cars the situation allows for plenty higher speeds than the speed limit. But yes in this case the situation you should drive well below the speed limit, preferably not moving at all. I have a better idea, we should have trains instead of cars. Then we wouldn't have problems like this.
Here is another nightmare. Remember Northridge earthquake, when the guy got stuck on the bridge ? And the bridge collapsed infront and back of him. He was stuck there for a while 80 feet in the air on supported by one pillar? 😱

This was the scariest thing I've ever seen. There is not a snow tire that can grip ice. People must learn to stay home during hazardous driving conditions please your life is worth it
The news warns people over and over. But they won't slow down. In my area we get only 2 snows a year and people were still Tailgating me anyway, no snow tires, no nothing.
This is why I don’t go out when there’s ice on the road. I don’t care what I’m missing out on. Work, a wedding, a covid vaccine...it’s not worth risking my life.
I agree, but many of the people involved were hospital staff. They can’t just not go to work when there’s ice on the road. We depend on nurses, doctors, CSTs, etc to be there for us when it’s our turn to be in the hospital. My wife is a nurse, and that’s what she said to me when I protested her decision to go to work last night in the bad weather. Thank God she was not involved in this on her way home. She works at Harris travels on i35 every day.
Mikaela....just drove 15 miles in freezing rain. No problem. I went slow, like 30 mph max and did fine. Even with the road completely covered, traction was not an issue. BUT I went slow, very slow. I used 4-wheel drive on hills and where it was clearly ice. These people here don't know how to drive in "inclement weather" which is why they drove straight into a pile up. Go slow, stay way back. It's really that easy.
I wish. Especially with the pandemic I haven’t visited my friends and family but I have to work to support my little brother, he has DMD. All my money goes to food, appointments, rent , car payments etc that I couldnt get any snow tires. I work 20 mins away but manage to drive slow enough and leave an hour early to get there , or else they’d fire me for sure. I’m only 20 and this is just too much for me
I watched/ saw in the rearview mirror as the woman who permanantly disabled me hit my car at a red light. It definitely leaves an everlasting effect, I can promise you that!!!!
I’m from Forth Worth and when we saw the news it was just heart breaking to watch because we didn’t know if someone we knew was involved in the crash. My heart goes out to those families who lost a love one in this horrible accident.
I used to hear Texans brag all the time about how they can break away from the states if they ever wanted too but they stopped bragging about it after that ice storm. They were crying for the Federal government for help because they didn't know what to do. Those Texans wouldn't last a single season on their own.
I tried playing this video at 0.25 the normal playback speed to see if I could figure out how fast the Fed Ex truck was going based on how long it took to pass that one light post. And when the news woman is saying "a highway horror" it comes out as "highway whooooooor"
We don't have a reputation for horrible drivers for no reason. I was driving through DFW on Thursday (when the 100 car pileup happened) and people were tailgating and cutting in and out of traffic as if they were on a racetrack
Yeah they speed a lot in the south. Horrible drivers here. No one wants to slow down, everybody wants to rush. My mom could’ve lost her life more than three damn times where I live. All because of impatient drivers. Stop speeding!! The road isn’t going anywhere! Drive safely. Wish more people practiced safe driving.
@ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ 1800-LOVE-ZURII it had all to do with "horrible drivers' because a "horrible driver" is a driver who drives too fast for the road conditions. if everyone of those cars slowed down it could've prevented it.
@ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ 1800-LOVE-ZURII the point is, we knew (not just in DFW, but Texas in general) that the roads would be bad. There were people being careful, because WE KNEW and we also know that we don't have the equipment (salt trucks, etc) for bad winter road conditions, yet people were still driving like they were more important than anyone else. It was inevitable when people act like that
DFW is notorious for speeding drivers...when you add ice to that type of driving, it has disastrous consequences. RIP to the ones who perished. Praying for the survivors and rescuers. What a horrific tragedy.
@ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ 1800-LOVE-ZURII yeah, lets just not analyze what people could have done better so that maybe people reading it can do better in the future all because people died. Just scroll past it if you're so offended haha.

Watch a lot of RU-vid videos. Be respectful of the road and your truck. Always get enough rest. Don't drive while intoxicated or hang over Lot of the time the driver survives but the people they crash into don't. Sometimes there is nothing you can do but you'll have to live with the tormented thoughts of the _what if's_
I live only minutes away from where this occurred. It was incredibly devastating to us Texans knowing the amount of deaths were caused that could've been prevented by simple precautions. Drive slow in these weather conditions, if you fear it then don't do it, BE SAFE
The problem is that most people aren't smart enough to fear it. Arrogance is a lot more prevalent than common sense and logic these days. 90% of people believe that they're smarter and more capable than anybody else, and that stuff like this definitely won't happen to them 🙄
This incident was found to be due not to speed or unsafe driving, but the fact that the city FAILED to salt the express lane. At all. There was zero prevention on the express lane.
I'd bet this happened because you're texans. You need to know that you shouldn't drive so fast in snow. If you guys knew what you were doing this wouldn't have happened. The trucks might've still crashed because they're hard to stop but it wouldn't be a massive pileup if you took it w=slow

That driver was not dumb, since you probably have never been in Texas, Texas does not maintain roads for winter as much as northern states, hence there is ice everywhere, a semi moving at regular driving speed will not stop regardless of its speed because of the inertia behind it. Ice just makes it worse, dont blame truck drivers for the weather and road maintenance that the state is in charge of. Blame the governor who privatized the energy sector and caused mass power outages
If u don’t know how to drive just don’t. There’s plenty of idiot drivers out there. U don’t need to be one, learn offensive driving skills and stop being a sheep
