I did a interview with my grandmother on a cassette tape in the 80’s before she passed away, I was 12ish and she shared her life story about the Holocaust and how she lost half her family... unfortunately that tape vanished she is loved and in my thoughts. Her chopped liver was the bomb too.... thanks for the recipe.
I grew up in Williamsburg Brooklyn New. My neighbors were Jewish and they actually took the time to teach me how to make Chopped Chicken Liver and other kosher dishes.
I’m new to your channel. Your chopped liver looks delish! I’m going to make it! You are a doll Bubbe. Makes this Catholic girl miss her gramma big time. Sending love & prayers.🙏🥰
I love the recipe; but, I will use chicken fat, not hydrogenated (heart clogging) oil, and I will use whole eggs. That being said, with all due respect, Thank you Bubbe! :-)
Great video, one suggestion...I think a little Klezmer music would be great in the background instead of classical Pachelbel :) Then I'd really feel like I was in Bubbe's kitchen!
I thought the accent was NY, but nope - Massachusetts maybe? Anyway, I'm trying your recipe. But, I happened to have left over calves liver - so it'll have to do. But thank you Bubbe!!
It’s not real chopped liver without chicken livers and chicken fat( schmaltz) and lots of onions- I like to carmelize a lots of chopped onion for my liver- also you need hard boiled eggs- salt sand pepper- yummmy I like it on rye as sandwiches- I also like catsup on it😁
vegetable oil is absolute garbage. Render your own suet if you need to (chicken fat in no longer hard, since chicken are kept in cages). Ask your butcher to save some beef fat for you, most times I get it completely for free, since the butcher hates to see all that sacred flesh be tossed into the garbage. Yup, the world is so insane, beef fat is thrown into the garbage, even if the cholesterol in beef fat is NOT bio-available to humans. Eating cholesterol from animal fats does not increase the cholesterol in your blood. Ask any cardiologist, you need 40-80 grams of fat per day, minimally, to maintain proper organ and heart functions. Excess is bad, but you need some, and animal fat is much more natural to the body than vegetable based fats. Why is salmon good but steak bad? Because nutritionists aren't doctors, and animal fats aren't bad. That bad science has been debunked 50 years ago.
Oh dear. My grandmother almost passed out looking at this recipe. Why bother to make real chopped chicken liver if you are not going to use real schmaltz and whole hard boiled eggs? Yes it is rich, but it's not something you eat every day. Don't leave out the good stuff!
