In this episode, we have a swimmer who's stuck at 1:50/100m pace for his 400m and more swims. His 100m PB is 1:31/100m.
We cover why he needs to:
- Enter further in front of the head
- Increase his stroke rate
- Go deeper with his catch and pull
- Exit closer to the hip

What do you think, is there anything else this swimmer should do? Let me know in the comments
@legaldesigndo
@legaldesigndo 5 лет назад
1) Push phase with palms facing back wall, fingers pointing down. To me it seems he releases the push too early. 2) Around minute 14:00 you can see a frontal view of the swimmer. He seems to be very wide, big shoulders, big muscles. And his arm extension is sort of too wide. His frontal drag is noticeable. He could reduce frontal drag by extending arms a bit more and close the gap between shoulders and neck. 3) a better extension, better push, improved rotation because of that push will help gliding. 4) with an increased stroke rate, being not a good kicker he might consider a 2 beat kick pattern that could also help reduce energy expenditure and close the gap between legs

Spot-on analysis. He also swims up hill a lot.

Quite a good swimmer. But would the suggestions you make greatly improve his time.. Eg could see him being able to do a 1:10

Seems to me that his kick is not as "straight leg" as it should be and that's why his knees are diverging. Just a thought. Thank you for your videos, helped me a lot in a very short time 😊

Your analysis gets me excited to jump into the pool and check my form. Your videos give me a new awareness in the water. I love refinement and this has lead me to my love of swimming. Thanks for your help.

I want to say a HUGE thank you for all the vids you've posted! I only started swimming properly 4 weeks ago and have gone from doing 25m in 22 seconds down to a PB of 15 seconds this morning. I don't have a coach so it's pretty much completely thanks to your training tips! Thank you so much and please keep up the content. It's been a monumental help to me!

It does look pretty good form. Legs look a little low with a bit too much bend in the knee. Thighs need to connect to core. I would do dry land core workout and some fin kick work, dolphin and flutter drills. I like all your other points. 🙏🐬🙏

Good idea! that would be cool to see the progressive technique differences between 1.50, 1.40 ... 1.20 etc.

Interesting how a 1:31 swimmer is stuck at 1:50/100 in a 400...I have had some of my swimmers there. Great video, as always!

@@legaldesigndo hi! This is my case! It"s been helpful to think about rate! I will try to increase recovery speed too!

Really useful videos, been learning a lot from them. It's amazing how technical everything is, and I find there's always a big discrepancy between what I think I'm doing (or what I want to do), and what I'm actually doing. I wish I could have even this pace! Currently hovering at 40 mins per 1.5 km swim.

His form looks really good. I wonder what my technique looks like under the water. Great video! The most informative swim videos for me. Every week I find myself with a new aspect to focus on in training! Great stuff. Greetings from germany

Around 6 minutes I went "oooohhh". The importance of the hand, elbow, and shoulder being aligned under the body in the pull position to crate speed is shown very well there.

This guy swim so much like me it's astonishing. I also have a slow stroke rate and very shallow catch and swim currently at 1:50. Trying to fix it, but always easier said than done

Great analysis! I would agree from the side view, hand entry seems too early and a bit low. Also at 8:25 needs to engage the scapula more, with upper arm, shoulder tighter towards the chin/cheek area so the arm is above the shoulder (not crossing over but more in front of the head rather than to the side) if you compare left and right videos, the entry points is much wider on the left, it should be more like an arrow. what do you think?
@EffortlessSwimming
@EffortlessSwimming 5 лет назад
Agreed could enter more aligned with shoulder

That early hand entry by the head seems to be slowing him down the most.

I'm actually kinda confused. It's generally told to have a high elbow catch, and the higher the more power you can create. But if you want to aim for the diamond shape you compromise a bit of the high elbow for this. So what is it basically? go for the high elbow or the diamond?

Don't you think he needs to work on the kick? That's very similar to where I am with my swimming and I blame part of it to my lack of kick.. Would love the feedback. Cheers.

hi im a short man , my weakness was leg kicks now its improved took me nearly a month to coordinate my strokes with kicks I am using 2 kicks and 4 kicks for 100 m swim . however it's so hard to break my record 1.40 sec , is this because my arms and legs are short , or im not strong enough. btw im using correct front crawl technique well not 100% correct but im confident to say its not sloppy . do i need to be just more stronger swimmer and do weights?

I swam 100’s and 50’s today at 1:26 avg (25 yard pool) with a 29 avg stroke rate and high stroke rate of 36😫😩😳what’s the safest way to get more strokes going??
@ChillerSession
@ChillerSession 5 лет назад
Where did you get the strokerate data? I can’t believe you have a strokerate that low if 29 means half a stroke per second. :-)
