Steven Villa My girls feisty, I named her Ellie after the girl in The Last Of Us lol. Shes getting a bit better since ive been using worms and treats as a deterrent kinda like you would with a puppy. But yeah I still dont trust her
@@taylort8133 love that game. I take my title out the tank at least once a week to scrub his shell. Maybe that's why. He's used to being Handled i guess.
I got two a little one and a mid size one the mid sized is called bowser I think he loves tryna bite my finger too is that bad behavior ? Or does he think I’m tryna feed him ?
This was super informative. I have a 7 year old male Red eared slider I want to give him lots of food choices but scared he will get sick. Thank you for posting this. Btw where did u buy that tank topper? I just upgraded my turtle go a 20 gallon and in need of that
I have 2 small turtles and this is a great video! I feel like I know my turtles could eat anything but I shudder to think how bits of food will make the water really dirty and I'll have to clean it 2-3 times a day. Now I clean it once a day just because they crap everywhere.
So Strewberries are good for a red eared slider and a yellow belly turtle i have both and I'm a bit worried bcuz they never really eatten strewberries and I'm sacred they might get sick or something😔
Fruit is great for turtles! Mine love them as you can see. There are many trusted websites that can guide you in what fruits and veggies are good for your turts. Try this one: www.thesprucepets.com/what-should-i-feed-my-red-eared-slider-1238363 If you are worried about them getting sick try a little, see how they react after a few hours.
Love the video. I have 2 red sliders. I’ve been curious about feeding fruit. Question. What size is your tank and where you get your basking tank. I’ve been looking for something like that. I currently have 20 gallon just got them and I’m learning. So I know I gotta go bigger. Unless I can find a basking tank that fit my 20. Do you have any advice for a new turtle mom?
My roommate has 2 large red ear sliders turtles that I clean and feed them because he practically has abandoned them. I feed the turtles once every two days but they refused to eat fruits and vegetables. They eat meat only, especially when raw.
I'd recommend just feeding them pellets, much easier for you and you can ensure your roommates turtles get everything they need. Your roommate is lucky to have you! Thanks for the comment!
My 30 year old red ear has always refused fruit, veggies and anything not living except salad shrimp when I first tried them but she started ignoring them soon.
do you have tips on having turtles together?? Everywhere I read it says that they can't be kept together but then i see videos like yours and it gives me hope
Well I do not want to take away your hope! But, turtles can get aggressive toward one another. Since the video my RES turtles were no longer friendly, well the larger one wasn't to the smaller one. And when that happens, unless you get a very big enclosure, they need to be separated. I move my larger RES and the yellow belly into a 100 gallon turtle tub and the smaller res gets to keep the 75 gallon. Everyone is happy now. The RES and yellow belly get along really well. So I think it all depends on the turtles you have. Thanks for the comment, Good luck!
Plz reply and I was wondering were did you get that tank and how much is it I would really like it for my turtle 🐢 he is going to be 3 next month and I wanted to give him a present and welcom him to a new tank he has a 20 gallon tank right now and how big is it and if you don’t have the time to answer it is fine 😀
Hi..dear.. thanks for sharing..Love your channel name "Long live your turtle" your turtles are looking very good and cute.. I have 2 turtles Nemo and Dodo less than 1year age. I am also interested to feed many vegetables and fruits , but very much in fear what to feed and what not to feed and how often it is good to feed these foods other than pellets.. please educate dear. Thanks in advance..
My sister has a large number of red and yellow sliders that she loves. Due to health and financial problems she is having a hard time taking care of them. We live in North Carolina and have been trying to find good homes or rescues to give them to but so far nobody wants them. They range in size from silver dollar to soccer ball and have been handled a lot so they don't bite. If you or someone you know can give a good home to some or all of these turtles please let me know.
hi. i also have a 2 year old new to the pond, and scared to death of me!! I have had him for 2 months now. Will he warm up to me ? I also have an 8 year old female and she follows me everywhere. Both are red ear sliders. Thanks for your help.

Can somebody please recommend an above tank basking area. Like please send me links to where I can purchase one Also can somebody please link where you got your uva uvb basking light setup. I’m looking on Amazon and I don’t see anything. Thanks!!!!
I was trying to make my Red-eared slider to eat a piece of an apple and the stubborn idiot won't eat it . I can't give her turtle food all her life. I also have a yellow-bellied slider and I was trying to make her eat too but like her sister she won't eat it.
How do I get my red eared slider to eat things other than shrimp. I tried strawberries and lettuce but he won't eat. He use to eat the pellets you showed when I had two of them and only shrimp on special occasions but my female passed away a couple years ago now and he only wants the shrimp. What do you suggest?
Mine are the opposite, try anything! I guess it is just the personality of the turtle. You could try mixing it in with normal food pellets and he could learn that its not so bad? Good luck!
My 3 y.o RES only likes to eat freeze dried shrimps, minnows and freeze dried salmon..pellets she only likes certain brands. Very choosy over its food. She hates veg n fruits. Will simply ignore them.
Sometimes you have to give some tough to get a turtle to like pellets. Only offer your turt pellets for a few weeks, she will have to eat them. Harsh but works!
How about tangerine? I put a slice and sliced it in smaller pieces, my red ear slider went crazy for it and now wants more... fine, I'll give it another piece, although I read somewhere that citruses can be bad for the turtle... :/

Turtles do not play with each other. They are solitary animals. However they will perform mating rituals or show signs of aggression toward each other.
@@patriciaburch6471 Why would they make her go blind?? I mean... don't feed them steaming hot on the turtle's face! Otherwise, carrots are fine. Look it up in turtle forums online if you want more information on it. Thanks for the comment!
What is best to keep water that clear for turtles ? When dry pellets flows a bit there, most of the times water turnes teaish colour and stay that way until change even with huge filter and bacteria liquid :(
Use a powerful canister filter. I use 6-8 times rule for tank size vs. gallons per hour. Let your tank cycle. Research what this means but it can take a few weeks but basically your beneficial bacteria that grows in your filter balances the waste in your tank, breaking it down efficiently enough so that your water stays clean and you only have to clean the filter out every couple of months and do partial water changes every other week (if everything is working correctly). Chemical Additives that “clean” water are unnecessary. However I do suggest treating chlorinated water as this will kill your beneficial bacteria and restart your cycle, thanks!
I have two small red ear slider turtles and my tank seems to get murky often what filter do you use and what do you suggest to keep it clear like your tank in the video thank you.
I use a beast of a filter - amzn.to/3l82VVm However I do not feed them fruits and veggies often, they make the tank very dirty. Typically I stick with pellets. Thanks for the comment!
Those fish learned to keep their distance and the turtles eventually gave up on chasing them. Only advice I can give is to try it. Try rosy red minnows or feeder goldfish as they are like 15-35 cents. That way it’s not a burden on your pocket if your turtle decides they are a snack. Good luck!
I clean any fruits I plan on putting in the tank first. But I don't feed them fruit often because it is messy for the tank. If your filter isn't strong enough it will quickly foul the water. If it is a problem you can always try feeding your turtle in a separate tank or bin.
Hey I have a question if I went to vacation for a month and had someone come to my house to feed my 2 red ear sliders, what would be the minimum amount of times he would have to come per week thanks
If I leave for a while I'll have a friend that knows how to feed them come every other day. If there are times where its 3 or even 4, the turtles will be fine. Just don't make a habit of it.
El Indigeno nice! Feed her with rather high protein and fat based foods and try to introduce her some sweet fruits as a treat. A small piece of strawberry for example
@@1234loci She loves shrimp, bloodworms, frozen fish( silver something), I bought her nightcrawlers and she does not eat them. The pellets she will not eat to save her life. At what size should I change her tank size? I have her in a 20 gallon tank.
@@NeoB-Lac Every 2-3 months. I feed fruit and veggies as a treat (sparingly). I use the sticks to feed the turtles regularly which is nutritionally optimized for turtles. It is also a lot cleaner. But if you are going to feed your turt(s) just fruits and veggies make sure you are satisfying the turtle's nutrition requirements (takes several types of fruit/veggie). But I would predict the filter would still do VERY well.
