In today’s video I discuss what I feed my adult Red Eared Slider on the daily, weekly, and monthly to hopefully answer some new turtle owners’ questions out there! I also diss a few companies that make turtle pellets (ex Zoo Med Reptisticks), because they contain nothing but fillers and low nutritional contents. No, seriously. Ask your vet. My exotic vet informed me that certain turtle pellets are only suitable for your trash bin.
This feeding guide is based on an ADULT turtle which requires LESS protein (pellets, fish, etc) than a younger, more active and growing turtle.
You should never feed your turtle scraps, such as bread because these types of foods contain no nutritional value for your turtle. I’ve included some helpful links below for you to continue your research and put together an amazing diet for your omnivorous turtle!
Lastly, always remember variety is KEY 🔑! Turtles in the wild munch on just about anything that is edible. Do not give in to a stubborn turtle that refuses its greens for pellets. Solely feeding pellets is the “lazy” way to go about your turtles diet, and will surely show its effects as your turtle gets older. Variety. Always
