There was a Dekay’s brown snake in my basement a few weeks ago. He ended up letting me handle him, didn’t musk or strike or even hiss. Even though he was full grown he was so itty bitty! I let him go in the woods by my house
UwU}}}}Lord{{ Yeah I did wash my hands. Wouldn’t want to risk anything my own reptiles. I’m very lucky to live in such a rural area. We’ve got all kinds of critters around us
Hi! My name is Eric and I’m from Canada 🇨🇦 , I have Autism and also Tourette’s syndrome. And also some heart conditions and a seizure disorder.I love snakes because they are really cool and they seem to like me a lot, and I just love to hold them and they like to hang over my neck and give me kisses. And whenever I’m in the hospital I like to remember the snakes and how cool they are and also my dog George, they help me get through pain and tough times. What are mites? Are they like flees and tics on dogs 🐕??? Awesome video! I subscribed!! I love them 😍 I have 2 corn snakes 🐍 at my school, one is named Thunder because he is a darker color and he has a different pattern and we have one named Lighting because he has a lighter color and different pattern. We feed them mice 🐁 and we have to freeze the mice before hand and then when it’s time for them to eat we soak the mice in warm water and then dry them out. Thanks for making these videos I love them. And the snakes and reptiles are very cute 😄😄!
@@cheyennesanders3309 idk about you, but when you've been dating someone for several years and you're very close to them, you don't think twice about sharing accounts and money. its literally just a matter of a quick venmo or he'll pay her back by buying groceries for a week. it's very unofficial once it passes a certain threshhold.
Not gonna lie. Snakes have always TERRIFIED me. Like I’d rather free swim with great white sharks or tiger sharks than touch a snake. But after watching your channel, I’m not sooooo terrified. Maybe I’ll hold a baby noodle one day.
You might want to read about “exposure therapy”, you can do it yourself, as you’ve been doing, watching this channel. It’s very effective with animal phobias. That worked for me with spiders.
Gracie Max if you get the chance, you may want to start with a slightly larger pet. Babies are typically harder to hold onto and much more scared of people, so they’re more likely to hiss or musk. I think you’re experience would be more positive if you could hold someone’s adult pet (like a male ball python), because they’ll be much more chill and confident, and used to being around people.
Cleptrio thank you! Yes! I don’t think I will get a snake as a pet. But like learning about them. I thought about getting a small lizard for awhile, but decided since I got the heebee Jeebees from the crickets and roaches I’d stay away. I do have fish and 2 dogs and they keep me on my toes. Want to be able to give all my animals the best life ever. Can’t do that if I have issues with even their food! Cheers and thanks for responding!
Phaeomelanin (which has a few different spellings) is the pigment in red hair. I’m a ginger. It’s really cool. Also, some blonds have purple cores in their hair.
Wow, that vitamin powder totally just triggered me.... I never thought I would see anything that looked so close to heroin that wasn't heroin.... thank god I am clean, but lord lol. I actually need to thank you guys because watching you guys helped me when I was getting clean. I would watch to distract myself or to fall asleep. RU-vid really was a tool for me during that time.
Beth Christa you’re not alone! You got this girl. If you ever need someone to talk to, give me a shout. Super proud of you for getting and staying clean 💞
Hope you are still doing ok, Beth! Watching animal videos has always been an excellent distraction during the last 10 months, but finding Snake Discovery last month really helped get through the terrifying ordeal that is our current timeline. Learning new things keeps our brains occupied, too!
I was literally watching the "Snakes we got in 2019" video and I was sad we didn't see the DeKay's Brownsnakes eat. I need to go buy a lottery ticket now.
Omg they were all so cute. I was especially excited to see the Dekays brown snakes again. So stinking cute. 🥰 The garter snake cracked me up when you tricked him to eat that pinkie by giving that worm a mouse massage 😂😂
So my cat (an outside cat) was sneaking around our tree and when I looked I saw a giant garter (about 3 feet) and I caught it and it was a wild red sided! I looked at the tail and it was a male! Giant male, and he musked ALL over me. He was very calm for a wild garter, well ya he musked but he did nothing else. I love garters!!
@@coffee_button we don't poison our rats and mice we let out cats catch them they do a really good job and they don't catch any other animals (unless they scare away snakes) we have huge land so they can't really go anywhere or get lost, they are fine as outside cats
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for making me aware that hognose snakes are now readily available captive bred. I have been wanting one since I was a kid, but I never got one because I have a lot of rules about taking on personal pets including that they must be captive bred. After 2 years of heavy research and preparation, I have finally sourced my forever snake. So thanks for helping me DISCOVER that the western hognose SNAKE is well on the way to domestication ;)
I love how you explain everything. My daughter requested a pet snake two years ago for her birthday, we got one that she connected with at the pet store , an albino female green (non green?) rat snake . Her name is banana 🍌!! Anyway , it’s so helpful all the details and differences etc , so thanks ! Keep it up
Love those sweet Dekays! We had some in our yard a few years ago and were able to feed them worms. Very cool friendly little guys who were more than fine with being handled.
I cannot tell you how happy it made me to see these little guys doing well. :) The brown snakes especially. I was getting worried because you hadn't shown them to us in a while. :) It was such a boost to see them.
Yeah we started with 4, and one never ate well and died about a month after we got them. They're a pretty fragile species being so small, so we're happy the remaining 3 are doing so well :)
I'll never get over how adorable dekays brown snakes are, I'd kill to own some in a bioactive setup some day, but I feel like I'd be so scared to hurt them they're so tiny!
Yeah we started with 4 tiny guys, but one never ate consistently and died about a month after we got them. They're a pretty fragile species, so we're just happy the remaining 3 are doing well :)
I spent most of my 47 years super afraid of snakes. Since watching your channel, I can’t wait for the next video to see them! 🤗🤗 thank you for changing my mind! ♥️♥️
I am obsessed with snakes and really want one but my mom won’t let me get one 🐍 when I move out of my house for college though it’s a long way away I’m going to get a snake 😃 but every time you guys post a video it makes me really happy 😊 ps can you post a video about your big snakes 🙂 love your channel and I have seen almost all your videos sorry I wrote to much
We had some DeKay's in our front flower beds. It was a great science lesson for my 2yo. Now she keeps asking for "more 'nakes mama!" She loves watching this channel with me.
Aila B. Oh my god I’m so stupid I meant to write ed only just my friend’s name is ned and habit🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️sorry to whoever read that also thank you for clearing it up
My neighbors saw a snake and were trying to see if it was venomous or not, then I saw its white cheeks and dark brown spots on its back. Thank you so much for sharing! Love your videos!!!😊❤
Love how animal lovers talk for their pets and have conversations for/with them. My husband was a big loud man but with animals and kids he was a marshmallow. Find a man like that and you set for life or until death do you part. You make my day when you talk for them, I feel that child inside me come bake to life.
Sooo cute I think a cute merch design maybe for them might be them since you called them noodles so put them in a noodle Chinese cup like instant noodles saying I’m not food I’m a noodle!
I found your channel by accident. Now, My cat fell in love with you too. She has to watch your videos to go to sleep at night. Her favorite is all feeding videos, videos with Rex and hatching videos. Thank you for being one of 3 educational RU-vid channels that she will watch on a regular bases.
Snake care have always intimidated me. But the Dekay snakes look so manageable! I'm going to look them up for sure! And I have like an infinite supply of small snails from my aquarium.
different type of snake!! in the americas, brown snakes are small and harmless, but in the UK and Australia it's a different, more dangerous type of snake :)
Since you mentioned dekay’s eat snails in the wild, I was wondering if you have “pest snails” in your aquarium. Small pond or ramshorn snails sound like a good source of natural calcium. Obviously you guys are the experts 😅 but that’s what came to mind
I love your videos so much even though I don’t need too they are so interesting Btw for the today question during the live chat my answer is with a a spoon I eat rice with a spoon or my hand
My ball python has been on hunger strike for 6 months and I rediscovered your videos in a panic to get him to eat. Yesterday was the first time he ate. Thank you so much!!! I love you!!!
That is the coolest Pink Floyd shirt!!! Also love your content Emily! Y’all’s love of reptiles has helped me turn my fear into enthusiasm and I couldn’t thank you more 😊
i love train sounds lol. I grew up in rural farmland, didnt hear trains until I went to college and I immediately loved it. any time I hear a train in someones video it makes me happy
Emily I was wondering I'm getting a snake soon because it was my 14th birthday a few days ago and I'm seeing if I can get a baby albino Darwin python (I'm from Australia) and I was wondering since it's my first snake and I don't have any other snakes do I still have to put it into qaurentine, but I don't had any other snakes so?
1) Since the dekay's brown snakes are as small as my self-esteem, does that change their feeding habits? 2) Wich species of snake are the best eater and wich are the worst eaters?
For question one, though I do not have a Decay's Brown snake, a few sources I've seen say that they're fed weekly. Though, take that with a grain of salt, as the information has a chance of being wrong. Garter snakes, another small breed of snake, will eat every 7-10 days, though it should be fed more often if pregnant or young. At least, that is what a few sources have told me. Sorry if this information is wrong.
Huge cuteness factor! The Dekay's remind me of a couple of Northern Red-Bellied snakes I found as a teenager living in Ontario. Man, those guys were holy terrors on garden slugs! Moved out to Alberta shortly there after and fell in love with Wandering garter snakes. About 10 years ago, I adopted a litter of captive-born garter snakes. Feeding them by hand was time consuming, but so worth it! I'd partially thaw frozen pinkies, then fillet them into strips. I kept one of those snakes and still have him today. He worked his way up through whole pinkies, to fuzzies and now loves hoppers. This is the first time I've seen one of your videos. I have subscribed and look forward to many more viewings.
My friend when i was a kid caught a huge dekay and gave her to me . She was about two feet long and the size of a cigar . Biggest one ive ever seen ! Crazy big , had her for a month or so and she didnt eat so we put her back where he found her in the fall . Where hoping she would have babys but nothing . We used to catch snakes in the spring and feed them then let them go about mid summer where we found them . Used to catch huge garters at the pond . I was thinking of going back there to look for snakes but its been 3-35 years so i wonder if it is all build up . Spent my hole child hood fishing and catching fish, frogs, turtles, crayfish, snakes. Used to dig up turtle nests hatch them and put them back in the pond so the racoons wouldnt dig them up and eat them . Common snappers and painters . They build a bike trail where the turtles used to nest so i dont think there are many in the pond anymore.
Same here. I have always been a rodent keeper, I love rodents and I hate to see the little mouse babies being fed to the snakes. That´s so horrible! But I am fascinated by snakes and would really have one if I didn´t have to feed them dead mice. I just decided to never watch a feeding video again - just "normal" snake videos :-)
Bless this channel... Nothing helps my mental health more than this videos... I love these vidoes SO much and I cannot wait to get my own egg-eating snake someday!
Wanted to drop by and say thanks for the humidity box video after that ive gotten some fantastic sheds and it seems like since then even feeding has improved thanks so much and deff subscribed love watching your videos!
When we lived in Tampa, we would often come across Florida ringneck snakes. The are beautiful and even smaller than the Dekay's. I don't know how he saw it, but my 5yo (at the time) found a baby. Coiled up it was half the size of a dime.
