this is the second Boston lesson video I've watched of yours and you make learning these songs so easy! Thank you so much! I will be watching a lot of your videos in the future I'm sure!
+AtomiKat Light Industries i bet it will sound great on that rig! thanks for checking this out and the very kind words and subscribing! your friend, dale.
Sounds good Dale. I'm going to work on this one. My music's getting a little stale and I need to move along or I aint gonna get any better. My wife says I'm improving but she doesn't hear the sour notes and not clean enough playing in her ear. I guess I'm my own worst critic. You have some old stuff on your channel and I LOVE it! I'm working real hard to train my ear right now. Boring but it's starting to come together a little better. I got a clip from Steve Stine the other day that started the gears moving a little better too. Long way to go to get to either of you guys but I'm not giving up. Rock on bro
hey sir! I think most of us are our own worst critic and i'm sure you are growing as a player but sometimes i think i feel like i've reached a place that's hard to move forward. Working on your ear is a great goal and i know you'll benefit from it greatly - i hope you reach your goals this year and i'm very thankful we share a common love for music and guitars!
tonedr Brother Dale.....I WISH I played as consistently as you! I don't know about you but I don't care if I EVER "shred" as some of the guys with the young fingers play. I just want to play clean and tastefully and that's a goal I can get to...I think....hehe. Like I said...some days I feel like I can play anything I want then other days I can't stop squeezing the cat. Some days I feel like I'm starting all over again but my wife says she sees big differences in my playing and I know I'm getting better. It's like not knowing what "right" is and as you improve you know the small things that make your playing sound better. It seems like if I turn the amp away from me it actually sounds like someone else is playing and it usually sounds better. Almost like a third party thing. But I'm staying with it and every now and then I see a big jump in my knowledge and ability. Thanks for the words of confidence! Looking forward to the new LLB postings! ESPECIALLY being Skynyrd tunes! I watch all your guitar players and I pick up stuff I missed in tunes all the time so when you guys hit the Skynyrd tunes I think that will improve my playing too. By the way....I've always said "I Know a Little" is the gauge that you're a REAL guitar player.....Peace bro!
i started when i was 14 i think and i'm 55 - what?!?! how does that happen! so over 40 years and i think i love it more today than ever - keep pickin' sir, your friend, dale.
Every guitarist will tell you they're inspired by other guitarists, even when they played in the same era. Keith, Scholtz, Clapton, Gilmour, Page, etc all mixed their styles with someone they admired.
Hi Dale, came back here for a recap on this song LOL I learned this from you a few years ago. I sent you an email wanting you to teach Boston's "Don't Be Afraid'. I'm sure your super busy ! If you catch a break and you like that song. Thought maybe you could do a tutorial. If not,I understand..There are no tutorials on it that I can find, and I do not know why that song is so overlooked. Tom Scholtz and I discussed it over strawberry milkshakes, and we think it's a hit !
thanks for the post...appreciate the request! Maybe Tom should have shared how to play when you guys were hanging out! wouldn't it be cool if the original artist took their time to share with us - that would be amazing and say a lot about people we often consider our musical heroes!
Yeah I recon so,but don't think you can bribe Tom with milkshakes. He just sucks them down like a mooch and grins ! It was quite annoying ! Anyhow,In all seriousness ..If I spent any time with Tom. It would be about his sound. To spend a whole weekend in his studio watching him record and tinker about with his gadgets. Would blow my mind ! Besides after the 3rd milkshake,he said check out Dale .That you are one Groovy Cat ;-)
***** thanks for the kind post and giving your time to check this out - the guitar is a Collings I-35. The size is more like a Gibson 336 i believe - and inch small on lower bout than a 335 but not as small as the 339 - i hope you find the right guitar for you, these type guitars are so versatile.
tonedr Thanks so much for the good guitar info! I'm going to check out your Collings model, too. I've recently been playing my old Boston lp's, and am finally getting around to trying to learn some of Tom's guitar licks. Your tutorials are of great help- Thanks!!
i'm using a Fulldrive 2 pedal - an Xoitic RC Booster and i think just the reverb on the amp which is a Headstrong Lil King. Hope all is good your way and thanks for the interest!
