I was thankful for the last great burnout (injury related) that I had. It showed me that as much as I had come to love the flow state I could reach physically, that wasn't what made me return everyday to my training. It was deeper than that, a kind of inertia. The "movement of movement"; the heart of all movement that is immaterial. The internal movement that arises in stillness. This is the cultivation of energy. Experimenting with breath control and meditation opened up new doors that I have been exploring ever since. It also had a glorious side effect of bringing me closer to peace.

Have you considered taking vitamin D supplements? I get really bad seasonal depression this time of year, but I'm okay so far.

@@NBDYSPCL I do my workouts in the element of nature. It's usually very sunny when I do my workouts. I have considered vitamin D supplements. I just don't think it's something I need since I try to consume fish often.

@@greenanime8359 hey man , just a heads up , not sure where you live but I live in a fairly northern state (Michigan ) so there’s roughly 4 months in which the angle of the sun is correct and the human body is able to synthesize vitamin d . The rest of the year , regardless of how sunny it is / feels , the angle is not correct for us to utilize the sun to make vitamin d . One other quick thing , many people are on doses of vitamin d anywhere between 2-5k iu . This would be fairly difficult to get through fish alone . That being said I understand the RDI for vitamin d is considerably lower but there’s quite a bit of evidence suggesting that the rdi is far too low . Hope this helps !

Great to have a video like this, not many fitness experts talk about people with kids, stress and anxiety. Now you have a injury, we have all been there especially with kids, they don't stop just because your wolverine healing superpowers have subsided for now. Definitely the best channel out there, a genuine individual that's what I love about Mr Bioneer especially. If anything your channel will grow because of your complete honesty. Especially on a subject like injuries, family and mental burnout, many of us can relate to how your feeling. Look after yourself man 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿Watching from NZ

It was because of your videos and training philosophies that I started going hard in the gym and hit my target weight last year of 185 lbs from 300lbs. Your channel and you literally changed, if not saved my life. I broke my hand in November of last year, gained some weight back, then you did that video about training post-injury and literally got me back up and going at it again. In 2022 alone I have now ran 8 spartan races, completing 2 Trifectas. Literally would not be here lifting the weight I do, being as physically capable as I am, and living life the way I do without this channel.

You’re the only fitness person on RU-vid that I can relate to (dad, two kids, toddler and new born) and because of that you made me feel a lot better about taking it easier in the gym etc. and giving myself a break so thanks for that. Now I know I’m not lazy, I’m just juggling a lot and doing my best to still get training in!

It's great to have a channel that looks at fitness physical and mental but talking to us parents. Other channels don't even come close to how great Mr Bioneer is. He is very genuine and honest, something we could do with a lot more of.

@@Mamaofchaos2 I have a 5yo son, full of energy as I'm sure you can relate to🤪 I keep fit, hit the weights etc. I sometimes need it just to clear my head more than a physical outlet. Plus I think your kids see you taking care of your body and wellbeing, it sets great example to them.

I feel so validated! I have had a bad habit of working out so hard I run my body down and then just keep on going and then I beat myself up for being run down. I have an anxiety disorder with co-occuring depression and I just recently noticed how achy I feel on bad days. Over time I've drastically reduced my workout load, I went from powerlifting to at home calisthenics and walking and I have been mad at myself for "failing" and wondering why even when I take a step back I don't really get better. I am slowly accepting that I am here due to so much stress on my body and nervous system and that switching my training method is a good thing. This video helps solidify that I am doing well even if I don't look like it because I haven't given up I've only slowed down and reframed my perspectives. Thanks for making me feel seen and reminding me it's okay to work WITH and not AGAINST yourself. I hope you end up feeling better!

@@bud993 I find it oddly satisfying though. I finished school some years ago but I remember feeling a sense of bliss about how little I cared about my exams before them, but that’s probably also down to the fact that I worked hard before that so I almost felt like I deserved to not care for a bit.

When my arms were first paralyzed (upper paraplegia?) I had nothing to do but watch RU-vid all day and get fat. Started walking and ended up doing it 9 hours a day while listening to podcasts, audiobooks, and Pimsleur language files. Everyone said I was overtraining like crazy. I never felt like I was.

I’ve so been there! This is such a great video and your honesty is brilliant. My children have grown up now and left home but I so remember it being really hard. They’re 21 and 31 now so that was back in the days when things just like this, weren’t really talk about openly. If I had my time again, I would look back at the 20 and 30 something year-old me and say make life as easy as you can when you’re going through stressful difficult times juggling everything, I’m now nearly 54 years old and eat a whole food plant-based diet which has helped massively. I’ve also cut out the alcohol. In my 20s and 30s this was totally unknown to me and I’m sure increased my stress levels. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though, as they say! keep going and keep being open and talking. I think this is going to help so many people. Really big high-five to you!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎨🤗

Walking down the stairs at 3am with my son put my knee out and when he was learning to walk he put my back out - you know when you're holding their hands up and completely bent over 🤣 Lack of sleep is a real battle but you adapt, adjust, and just keep moving. Seasonal change killed all my motivation. I've hardly exercised the last few weeks and I'm trying to get back into it. I was going through the whole summer, sometimes 5-6 days a week, but very consistent. Then the weather started to turn, combined with life, and I just lost it for a few weeks.

I'm in the same place - been trying to work my way out of a slump for a few weeks - and two days ago while bouldering I landed funny and hurt my knee, possibly tore my ACL. It's a real bummer to get hurt, because you miss opportunities to work hard when you are experiencing an upswing. I'm doing all I can to heal faster (I'm about to turn 49, so it takes a little longer). To anyone out there who wants to make the most of life: take your bulletproofing exercises seriously WHEN YOU AREN'T HURT.

Thanks :) I have "burned out" a couple of times this year already, and also got into therapy and got an ADHD diagnosis by someone my therapist recommended, so this university AND work deadline around, the stress was not even effective for me to make me be productive until yesterday. After feeling depressed and bad, I suddenly got into a task, worked together with a friend and suddenly felt flow again. Now I am motivated. I am not stressing out (at least not felt) as much, as I know I will submit something and receive a good grade. I guess you described the ups and downs well.

You’re best video brother, another way alleviate stress and prevent (or delay) burn out is leveraging parts of the business. If I hear you correctly, you’ve reached the end of you one-man-show runway. The first leverage is ALWAYS a killer personal assistant. Mine takes care of those damn emails, does basic finance, set up meetings, reach out to podcast guests, managing my social media tea and most importantly - Takes care of home stuff (doctors, finance, doc meetings, order groceries, manage the cooking service, and much more) You will pay 2-5k, get 50% of your time back and be able to grow financially while enjoying the initial phase of your success. Time to grow 💪

Such a valuable video, acknowledging life having ups and downs, it’s normal, and sharing all of it with others. Fast forward 30 years- its the same, just the issues are a bit different. Yes, the kids are out of the house, but they now have different problems. Our parents (while they are still with us) now have problems which we need to address. Learning earlier that life is life, warts and all, is helpful for the long haul. When we forget, life reminds us! Your son’s sleep cycle will consolidate; until then, keeping stimulation low while he’s up, helping to promote return to sleep is easier said than done, but will help him get back to a better cycle. Thanks for all you do and share.

Having recently injured my back as well and am just recovering after a month I feel this. Sorry to hear this and hope you can recover quickly. Back pain always makes me feel super critical of myself and about 10 years older. It’s all in your head and it will get better. Waiting for the next video whenever it comes. Cheers!

Perfect timing man, I burn the candle at both ends. It’s finally caught up, and hit like a sledgehammer. I usually do a powerlifting/bodybuilding training, right now I’m doing maintenance and started Olympic ring training. Usually 4 days a week, now I’m doing 3. I’ll probably do it for another 2-3 weeks. The rings are now a staple, wish I started them long ago, but that’s then and this is now. Incredible content as usual man. Get that rest homie, we’re all here for you. We don’t sub for just the content, it’s also the creators personality. You’re more important than you think to the fitness/health community.

I appreciate you very much, as if you were a dear friend that I have never been lucky enough to meet. I have always really liked your personality, your charisma, your energy, your positive way of seeing the world. I'm trying to get back to exercising and lifting weights, but it's taking a lot of mental effort to get started. I am almost 40 years old and I have no job, no income, no girlfriend, no friends, no savings, and no family to care about me. I am totally alone in the world and the only thing that remains for me is my childhood dream, which is to go live in Japan, even knowing that it is totally impossible, it is the only thing that keeps me alive, looking good, traveling to Japan and finding someone who loves me. Your videos are also a very important help in my life to not give up and commit suicide. Thank you for your way of being so wonderful and remember that there are people like me totally sunk, alone, poor and unsuccessful that you help a lot with your wonderful content. I will do my best to get in shape, get a damn job in this disgusting Spain that I hate so much and I will do my best to make my dream come true

I find that a lot of my burn out comes from a feeling of not achieving. I'm not necessarily over working myself to achieve said things, but I can wake up in the morning and feel completely drained because I don't feel like I'm moving forward and that feeling can stay with me for days or even weeks until I feel I can throw myself back into things again.

Best. Fitness channel. Around. There's several great ones, but in my opinion, with how varied and in depth every subject in every high quality video is, this is the best. Our body can do minimal work without the brain, like heart beats and lungs pumping, and that's it. So, I'm super glad he covers the mind as well. It's perfect for me, and I'm sure, an incalculable amount of folks too, right?

Obviously I can't speak for your sponsors, but I do believe I speak on behalf of everyone here in the comments when I say take your time, rest up, if you can, take a break from making videos and come back refreshed and back to old strength! As for the anxiety: I probably don't have to tell you this, but breathwork can be an amazing tool to keep anxiety to a minimum. Wim Hof method breathing as a prophylactic thing and box breathing in acute situations are particularly helpful to me in that aspect. I appreciate your open words about these topics, you're doing your part to normalize talking about mental health, something that's sorely needed!

geting psyched up instead of psyched out sounds good. change the feelings that are problematic. it reminds me of a little trick that helped me with anxiety. when i was having anxiety i found it helped me, when these foughts that startet fear always came back to your mind. i loughed about myself when these thoughts recurred. Laughed about how it can be that simple to fall back these thoughts i already answered. Laughing changes a lot in your brain and most of the time it prevented the start of anxious feelings in my stomache.

One of the things that one has to learn to do is listen to one’s body, and distinguish between mere lack of motivation and genuine fatigue. We’re taught that consistency is everything, and feel guilty if we miss a session, but recovery is vital and failing to take a day (or two!) off when we need one is a recipe for burnout and injury. Beginners want to get the fastest possible results, but haste is slow.

Thanks for opening up and your honesty. I'm going through somewhat similar things, I'm a massage therapist and personal trainer and new father. So this is coming from sympathy... What if you were to sleep in a different room and not trade nights sleeping (or not sleeping) with the children? I know it sounds sexist but hear me out: You are the provider, your physical and mental health is most important for your family to survive, if your lady doesn't sleep she can always nap during the day with the baby, you can't. I've started sleeping solo and it's helped me a lot and made me more productive by day to take care of my family

I had the same experience lately, training 6x per week and having high stress because of a recent job change I felt pretty exhausted and Burnt. I took a week of vacation from work and training(only light deload training and sauna) and I feel way better. Wish you all good luck as a parent it’s hard to relax and function with low sleep I can only recommend NSDR/ Yoga nidra to recover during the day from low sleep or Ashwaghanda for high stress periods of life

I have 3 under 3 is it's always refreshing to hear from another busy parent balancing exercise. I was averaging 4.5 hrs asleep for 3 months and had to back down on gym time and volume because I was not sleeping enough to recover. Now I get about 5-6.5 hrs and hit the gym 1-2x a week, but I lift heavy and make those workouts count. Rest of the days I work on mobility for whatever feels tight as well as working through about 11 daily conditioning exercises as well as isometrics and maxalding as my time and recovery permits. As a busy SAHD of 3, maxalding and isometrics have been biggest game changer to keep up training while only being able to lift for a shorter time each week.

Lately I have been busy with classes. With the midterms coming up here on my end I wish I had all the day to workout but no. From having to book a tutoring, class registering, family obligations, and household tasks it has been overwhelming me through out this semester. I do motivate myself by using shorter bursts of workouts by doing 3-10 minute emom or amrap workouts using 2 exercise consisting of jump rope and any exercise of your choice working with low rep range (high reps for jump rope portion). To eliminate distractions I do use a sand timer, also note you can buy sand timer at ebay for cheapest price. I would do this normally about 2-3 times a day almost daily with warm up included. Majority of my time I would take a _guided power nap or meditation_ using brave browser (which blocks majority or cookies and ads) for long as 5-15 minutes through out the day. Still your videos are just as educating and I hope you can keep this up.

Mate, having been in the military, so many get injured though. I know of many people who go into marine training who don’t make it through or get put into Hunter Troop which rehabilitates them. I joined as a diver but snapped my Achilles and had to transfer. But there are many injuries you never hear about and even not in the ‘elite’ branches, I would say a lot of people live in this ‘burned out’ State which is why sadly turnover is so high. Or sadly, so are suicidal tendencies in the armed forces. I joined you keep and stay fit but gained 3-4 stone. Now I’m out and I’ve gone back to kickboxing which I love, BJJ and strength training. I leave my work in work, less anxious overall and love my training. But even now I deload more frequently than I used to. I love your channel man, so scientific and wholesome!

Perfect timing for me. I'm starting to feel burned out and for me once I start feeling it, it starts spiraling down even faster. I start working out less, more time on social media, and negative thoughts just start to take over. I like your approach of going into a "maintenance mode". keep the consistency going but allow your mind and body to rest. Thank you for this video. I never comment and don't even count on you reading this but you deserve to know that you helped me quite a lot. I don't have kids or a physical job but between lifting boxing working driving lessons taking care of the dog etc... I have went from a very calm summer to some agitated months. A tendinopathy didn't help with morale. But your video carries a great message, the ones that will survive the great selection that is life are the ones that will end up at the top. Maintaining in these phases and not giving up on anything is what helps to stay the course. Thank you again, good luck with your beautiful kids, they have great luck to have a father like you.

Thank you for talking about it, I just finished an entire summer of studying for my medschool state exam and ever since then ive been sick for weeks, getting back into activity too early and then prolonging my sickness etc… Ive always had the tendency to do this, underrecovering, so thanks for letting me know that its not just me, and that lots of people go through similar patterns. I wish you a speedy recovery, ill recover extra hard now and i hope you do the same! :)

Not even halfway through the video, but thought a comment was necessary. This is easily my top favorite RU-vid channel. I’ve learned so much from you. I regularly watch videos of yours I’ve seen 20 times already to refresh on the info when I hurt myself or am focusing on building strong bones or need to gain some motivation to try some new things or even go back to the basics. I am almost finished reading “Functional Training and Beyond.” I was also struggling when going to the gym to stay consistent until I purchased your Protean Performance System program (which I highly encourage to anyone who reads this comment) and since then, I’ve noticed significant gains in how good I feel, how strong I am, and how much my strength endurance has increased. For instance, I couldn’t do an L-sit to save my life when I started 5 weeks ago, but I can regularly do them now and hold them for around 10 seconds. Anyway, long story short, you’re awesome and incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Thanks for making videos and good content. Keep it up!

I tend to train a lot and with varying intensity depending on what I'm working. This year has been one of the most stressful years of my life, and I struggle with mental illness. I've found that switching gears and focusing on maintenance workouts while incorporating relaxing yoga/mobility work before bed/throughout the day has been good for at least maintaining that "desire to move" that Adam mentions. As for the mental side of it, really focusing on my diet, exploring easy/healthy recipes using super foods and brain foods, and short therapy/meditation sessions have personally helped me at least stay afloat. Consistency and being patient with yourself are key.

The words 'sleep regression' gave me flashbacks, haha! I also really relate to your anxiety about your kids getting hurt. My son is almost 2 now and we have another on the way - when he was an infant I had really bad, stress-inducing intrusive thoughts about accidentally dropping him or banging his head on something inadvertently because I was just so tired. It got better with time & as I was able to see him become more independent and competent at moving himself around & even taking a few bumps and bruises and bouncing back. This is one of your best videos, I think. Lately I've been feeling really burnt out in my artistic career (as well as just in general), and despite the video being more focused on physical fitness, a lot of the advice is just as applicable to any type of burnout. Oddly enough, thanks to all of your other videos about training and fitness, that's one area that hasn't been as affected by my burnout, as I'm able to just do what I can when I can, and it's really made a difference in my health. Hope you start to feel better soon!

To combat workout burnout, I rotate your workouts on a weekly basis. So for: Week 1 I will do the SFT1.0 Bodyweight Training. Week 2 I will do the SFT2.0 Protean Training. Week 3 I will do the SFT1.0 Pump/Volume Training. Week 4 I will do the SFT1.0 Power Movement Training, and Week 5 I will do the SFT1.0 Power Lifting Training. After the power lifting, which is lifting 80-90% 1RM, I go back to the bodyweight to start the cycle over. At the end of each week I make sure to get in the SFT2.0 Full body training. Each workout takes about 1 hour, which fits into my schedule right before martial arts classes (4/week). Yeah, my kids are grown and I have a 9-5 job.

Totally know how burnout happens. Gotta find a way to put all the responsibilities off for a day or establish a schedule when you can, but with flexibility for the everchanging world. For burnout, I think of military selection. I evaluate if my burnout is based on exhaustion or boredom. If boredom is the problem, I look at how I can vary my training to stay on course but trade out certain activities or times. If it is legit exhaustion, I gauge where I am in my training progress and decide if I should just slow down slightly or call it and shift my training completely for a spell. Also I give myself Sunday to plan out a general list of skills I want to work on after I spend time building my relationship with God.

I wouldn't worry about messing up. Just stay honest as much as you can and you'll be fine. I have faith that you'll do much better then even you expect. 😁 so you know take a small break and get back at it. The best way I find to go out of burnout is not only by trying to maintain my physical fitness but also by increasing the intensity bit by bit. Sometimes I do have to grin and bare it but the second way I look at my goal. It's large enough that it egnites a fire in my spirit and drives me forward.

Im glad you made this video, this years summer I had a summer job helping kids in a school gym so I came home to exhausted to exercise, and right after that my family and I went on vacation for a week, so I spend a couple of months with training only for University to kick in and keep me busy. I accidentally haven’t had a consistent routine since June, but considering that I had already been training hard on a regular basis for about 2 to 3 years, I felt like I could afford (and deserved) a break from training. I’ve decided to wait till January of 2023 (so next year) to continue training regularly with intensity and this video assured me I made the right call. More people need to hear this. Really interesting video which I can strongly relate to. Since becoming a Dad (my son is 2 and was a pretty awful sleeper recently) I’ve just had to adapt. I now accept that my training will inevitably have ups, downs and pauses with the unavoidable stress, illness and injuries being a parent brings. I’ve just set really realistic, modest targets and made very slow but steady progress.
