Feliks Audio Elise MKII OTL Headphone Tube Amplifier, Audio Bliss?. Hey, friends, in this video, I will discuss the Feliks Audio Elise MKII OTL Headphone Tube Amplifier, review its features, build quality, specs, design, overall quality of sound, and how it compares to my current solid-state Reference Headphone Amp the Topping A90 Ultra-High Performance Headphone Amplifier, and the ZMF Pendant headphone tube amplifier. I test the Feliks Audio Elise MK II OTL Tube Headphone Amplifier alongside the Topping D90 Digital Analog Converter and Schiit Bifrost 2 digital-analog converter paired with several pairs of headphones such as the Rosson Audio Rad-0, ZMF Verité Open, Drop Sennheiser 6XX, and the ZMF Aeolus, and Hifiman HE1000SE, to give my overall conclusions.

Awesome review and very timely! I’m trying to decide between the Elise and Pedant SE to pair with a Bifrost 2 and a VO and Aeolus. I’m looking for something warmer/more relaxing so it sounds like Elise might be the way to go. Thanks for the great content here and on the live streams!

I cannot speak to the Feliks Elise, but I do have The Feliks Euforia and the Focal Utopia and an RME ADI-2 DAC FS (EQ to add just a tad of low end) and must say that it results in audio nirvana...at least to my ears. The Euforia adds lushness and warmth and the right amount of "tube sound" to the "detail and purity king" Utopia. A match made in heaven. So much so that Focal recommends and uses the Euforia at trade shows.

Would love to have a comparison between Elise and the Echo 2! I am interested in the Echo 2 and was planning to pair it with Earmen Tradutto. Now I am considering to get the Elise and pair it with my Topping E50 instead, doing this I won't need to buy the Tradutto and it will still cost roughly the same with Echo 2+Tradutto. Thanks for pairing it with the D90 since E50 is almost similar to the D90 in sound signature from what I've researched. Great review!

Hey Marcello, love your content and what you are doing with the new channel The Source Audio Video Design Group! I had a question for you. I'm at the finish line and ready to purchase either the Echo MKII, Elise MKII or go all out and grab the Euphoria anniversary edition. My headphones are the Aeolus. Elise sounds like it would be right up my alley, being more relaxed, tubey and euphoric sounding, compared with the Echo MKII - however, what about the Euphoria? Would you recommend stretching to that one or consider Elise the sweet spot for the Aeolus? Thanks so much - hopefully you see this comment and have time to reply. Cheers

I have a Vérité Open on the way. So excited to pair it with my Jotunheim 2/Bifrost 2 stack! However, I'm hearing everywhere how well ZMF headphones pair with tubes to give it a more relaxed listen. I'm looking into either the Echo MKII or Elise MKII and want to know which you would recommend to pair alongside the Jot. The Echo intrigues me the most, however I'm worried it's not different enough from the Jot as far as contrasting sounds go. From this video and what I've read, the Elise is much warmer and I can use either tube amp as a pre to the Jot when I want a good balance. Is the Echo different enough from the Jot for my needs? Or should I spend the extra $1,000 for the Elise?

Hey @Steven Reinholt if you are looking to relax the sound a bit of the Verite Open then I would go with the Elise MKII, tvp.ag/0FL22m0vrY if you do order help a brother out grab it from the link above as they support me and my channel so I can keep producing more content. If you want the Verite to sound even punchier and layering more detail then the Echo MK2 tvp.ag/0FL22l0vrY if it was up to me I would probably lean towards the Elise MKII for the more relaxed listen since you already have the JOT2. When you say the Echo can make things punchier and add layering detail, can I get that same effect with the Elise by using it as a preamp for the Jot? Sounds like that may be a good balance. Elise for all out relaxation, Jot for technical, and tube buffer for a bit of both? Does that sound right?

@@stevenreinholt9903 personally I believe you could have a nice combination between the Jot2 and the Elise MK2 as the preamp. I didn’t try that combo but did with the Topping A90 and it helped to greatly improve the sound of it! The Echo is just a bit more energetic and punchy sounding than the Elise MK2 where the Elise has more of a Tubey warm euphonic sound. I think the Echo2 is excellent with the Clear MG and decent with the Aeolus. I can give the Verite a listen with the Echo2 more next week as I still have it on hand for a review.

@@MarcelloRostagni Sounds great! Having that flexibility and wider range of sound with the Elise sounds like it may be worth the $1,000 price jump. I also have a Clear MG so hopefully I could achieve some nice results with the Elise as a pre similar to what you got from the Echo. I realize my experience may differ but I have a good feeling about it. Thanks again for your help. I'll most likely take the plunge on the Elise in the next few weeks. I've enjoyed watching your videos and I see you around on different forums. I appreciate what you do 👍🏻

How does it compare with the A90 when using the Verite Open?

@SAR they are so different. The A90 is like a squeaky clean window of the recording. Pushing all the detail on a track in your face. The A90 is also very quiet with no audible distortion. The Verite sound more precise and clinical. The sound stage presents a bit like a wall of sound. With the Elise the Verite take on a new life presenting more warmth to the mid range, presenting a slower more holographic, 3D and euphonic sound signature. You now have to listen a bit more for the details on certain tracks but the music becomes so much more enjoyable and emotional to my ears with the Elise and the Veirte Open.

You making it really hard for me, man! I am really drawn in to buy this amp. Two questions: Do you thing it sounds great with the Focal clear Or do you think the ZMF amp would be more suitable with the Clear? By the way I saw this statement from an online dealer in the UK: All orders are for the new 2021 model, as per Feliks: Main changes will be new transformer, significantly improve thermal capacity & cooling (good for these tube rollers) and redesigned internal shielding to better protect from interferences. Looks wise - no change hence previous pictures will apply. Are you aware of the Elise Mark III?

I have also heard that the zmf pendant is not a great with focal headphones. Yeah i would love to hear your opinion @marcello what is the difference with elise and echo 2 with focal headphones. Difficult choise and i might some point ger ZMF aeolus or VO, so elise might be better option to drive focal and ZMF.

@@sleepyrhythms6668 I personally have Clear MG:s, and what i know @marcello loves those with echo 2. What kind of DAC do you use it with? I am thinking of the new CA Dacmagic 200M, MQA capable and should give the MG:s little bit warmth to it and it has had great reviews. My real problem is that if i buy ZMF VC:s that how will they function with echo, ELISE they are great what i understand. I love more the warmer cousier sound, and bass response is important also keeping the detail and imaging. My current Naim DAC V1 is maybe a bit too bright at some vocals for MG:s, bass is amazing and so is details. My problem really is that not so much experience with different gear to compare what is what.

@@teppolaaksonen59 I use the Bifrost 2 dac with the Echo like Marcello. The first thing you'll notice is a fuller presentation from Clears, elevating the bass a bit. Sound stage becomes holographic, wider and more natural across the board. Most importantly, treble is 100% silky and natural, virtually eliminating any metallic edge Focal drivers are known for. Ask if you want to hear different impressions as the Echo is another story when it comes to high Z headphones. I have the Aeolus, Atticus and 6XX.

@@MarcelloRostagni Due to my budget, when it comes to tube headphone amps, it's gonna be between these two. If money wasn't an issue, I'd prob buy a Trafomatic Primavera. Looking forward to the possibility of a review of the Pendant and Euforia.
