In this video, Dominican twin sisters Sol and Luna react to FELIP - 'Bulan' Official MV. This song is the comeback of FELIP, who is SB19's main dancer also known as Ken.
The song and music video are FELIP's creative interpretation of The Philippines' collective memory of Filipino ancient deities and mythological tales.

There are different mythologies for different regions. Ken‘s face was so emotion-filled during the whole video. The effects were fantastic. Editing was on point. You‘re right to say this is art. This is my first time seeing the bakunawa(the water dragon) Hahaha it's creepy but cool at the same time. Bakunawa is known as the enemy of the moon cause the myth says that the reasons why there where eclipse is because the Bakunawa swallowed the moon. What a cool concept and very pure Filipino. You make us(Bisaya and Filipinos in general) proud always Felip. Incredible!!!

The original Philippines before the colonial period happened had different (but similar/homogeneous) civilizations. This is largely because we are an archipelago made of thousands of islands. Think Moana, how bands of people sail the far seas and settle on islands. In this case, prince/princesses or other notable beings in the society would sometimes decide to lead their retainers/people and inhabit a different land (either because they are not in good terms with the other people in their origin island or simply because they just want to be independent). Different places were ruled by different rajas and datus (some of them are blood-related). Naturally, despite being from similar roots, with the isolation caused by being in different islands, these societies grow into different tribes and barangays with different myths and folklores. These stories were passed down through generations of orators and evolved through different versions. Sometimes, it's just totally a different story of a totally different tribe. The moon however is a common subject among orators, so you will find different myths about Bulan, even though they share the same exact name to represent as a moon deity. Note: most Visayan mythical deities are genderless, or are not subject to the same gender roles in modern society, so the gender often really didn't have any differentiation/impact to one's place in society during Philippine pre-colonial period. Babaylans (priestesses/seers) back then were highly-regarded by the people, for example. They held authority despite their gender. Even our pronouns are gender-neutral, hence, as modern Filipinos are now trying to recover our pre-colonial culture, we have no way of figuring out the exact genders in the myths. So far, it seemed like wasn't that big enough of a deal in the stories to be specifically mentioned. But I digress. Going back to the stories of Bulan, you'll find there are plenty of mythical stories about this deity. Sometimes the stories are variations of one another, sometimes they're just totally different stories from different tribes. The particular Bulan story that Felip is referencing is the one about the 7 moon deities and Bakunawa. There is also a different story about Bulan and Adlao (Moon and Sun). In this story Bulan and Adlao are siblings who fight each other. In the end, Bulan fell to Adlao's blade, and his severed arm became the land while his tears became the seas and rivers. Both of the above are Visayan myths from different parts of the Visayas.

The Bulan story that you mentioned at the start of the video is I think another version of the story or a different one with the same name 'bulan'. I also know another version of the story, but I think cashualchuck's video is the most accurate one that FELIP also used, so I definitely suggest you check it out! 💙💙💙

Bulan, the God of moon, is an adolescent boy with fair skin and long dark hair. He was placed in the "Kamurayan" or heavens by Gugurang, the Bicolano supreme deity. Haliya, the Goddess of the moon, is Bulan's sister who hides her beauty behind a mask. In the music video, a thin cloth "masks" her. Other versions say that Bulan created Haliya to keep him company and to protect him as well. Because unlike Bulan who is weak & submissive, Haliya is fierce & strong. Bakunawa used to be a goddess but lost her beauty and became a dragon-like being as a punishment for being arrogant and greedy. When Haliya and Bulan descended to the Earth to bathe, everyone was in awe of their beauty. Bakunawa fell in love with Bulan but was neglected. She swore to claim Bulan from the sky as a revenge. Whenever Bakunawa tries to devour the moon, people would light torches and make noises to call Haliya because as a strong goddess she protects Bulan. Additional info: Bulan and Haliya are beautiful, supernatural beings, youthful and elegant, and superb in the art of dancing. The dancers could be (or symbolize) the "Tawong Lipod" or the nymphs of the wind. They are the court servants and handmaidens of Bulan and Haliya. There are two popular versions of the Bulan-Haliya-Bakunawa myth; the Bicol version and the Visayan version. The video shows the Bicol version.

Different regions of the Philippines have different accounts to the mythology of Bulan. Since Ken is Bisaya, this may be based on the Bisayan Accounts wherein Bulan is one of the 7 Moon Deities with his sister Haliya (they are the two crescent moons).

At the intro you can see Felip as Bulan the mortal seeing vision of his Moon God time in which he can't remember any of it at all. Bulan is among the 7 moon deities the Bathala made for the people. They are so bright and mesmerizing that when they all go down to earth all living creatures mingle with them including Bakunawa, the sea serpent deity. He became obsessed with them and decided to posses them by swallowing them. Bulan defended Haliya and vice versa. It's the legend about the Bakunawa who eats the moon every night. That's our ancestors' way of interpreting the phases of the moon. And Bulan and Haliya are siblings, both are moons. One day, the Bakunawa was aiming for Bulan but fortunately he escaped, but falls on the earth and continued his life as a mortal human. But he was able to defeat the Bakunawa when it tried to attack his sister, Haliya.

Bulan in Filipino means (MOON), he used the Krump Dance Style. Then we have this Mythology that represents the Moon God (Bulan) and Haliya a Lunar Goddess. Bakunawa is an enemy serpent who devoured his brother bulan. As you can see Haliya covers her beauty with cloth or mask. This Mythology comes from the Bicol, Philippines.
