I'll never forget how disappointed I was when I got my latest Nintendo Power in the mail, only for... Felix the Cat?? to be on the cover. My mom said, "You don't know Felix the Cat?!" and proceeded to sing the song to deaf ears for the next 3 minutes. But, as it turns out, the game is really good. I never realized that submarine was of Felix's own face, so thanks for that laugh
I can’t believe I never knew about the extra lives from shooting the professor’s face in the clouds. I’ve played this so many times but never would have tried shooting one multiple times. Great video!
This really is one of the best platformers on the system. Neglected for many years after it's release, it finally got some attention when NES become popular again in the mid 2000's and now the game is quite pricey. I like how the closer you get to the goal, the music drowns out. If you go backwards the music kicks up again. That's something I never here anyone mention.
I couldn't say if the game is linked to the movie for certain, but the commercial you showcased directly lifts the audio from the film. Having said that, I don't think anything at all in the game references the movie, rather relying on characters from the series instead. If I had to guess, after the film's release, there was probably a push to make Felix popular, so they made this game. There could be more credit to this hunch if there were other forms of merchandise coming out around that time, but I can't really check that right now. The game is a lot of fun, but it does make me yearn for a world where Felix games actually kept coming out. I could easily picture early 3d platformers where you would use his magic bag for various abilities. Not unlike banjo kazooie, actually.
A little bit off topic, but the nineties Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat is one of the more underrated wacky as hell cartoons that I see constantly slept on. It's a hoot and one of my favorites. This game? I feel like this would be fun as a weekend rental unless it fancies you and you wish to speedrun it.
Your insults to Kirby please me. Also, thanks for a great video on this game. I played through this last summer when I was looking for some fun and easy games to play and it was perfect.
I got the NES pretty late in its life, the SNES and Genesis had been out for a while, and Felix was one of my first games for the console, and I still love it to this day. It's just one of those games I can pick up, play for any amount of time, and have a great time with
I think this is the one game I remember from my childhood where I rented it and beat it on my very first attempt without a Game Over. It's very easy but it's such a fun ride.
Thank you for showcasing so many neat games I missed as a kid! Felix looks really fun, even the Gameboy version. I am secretly waiting for an episode on Mendel Palace 🤞
Another one that never saw a Japan release. I never played this one, but I remember hearing and seeing about it. Somehow I also knew that Felix was a cat with a bag of tricks (no idea how since I have no memory of ever watching the cartoons).
I've always been curious of this one and over the years I've heard it's a good one. I hope the price doesn't remain so high so it can be more than a curiosity for me, someday. Thanks for letting the cat out of the bag, NES Friend!
the milk also gives you hearts, the hearts go down overtime and if you loose all of them you downgrade your transformation, this probably never happend to you.
I've heard this game is a lot of fun. A lot of folks a while back were trying it out in Retro. If it wasn't for the cost, I would be delighted to give this one a spin! Maybe it'll come to the Switch NES online service some day.
Looks fun! Too bad the timing was so bad. Coming out the same year as the SNES in North America couldn't heave helped sales. I wonder if it would have been more popular if it came out a few years earlier.
Damn. this review is making me regret trading my copy a few years ago. Kind of an uncommon and awesome game. The submarine stage totally reminds me of the water level in Mario Land where you pilot the submarine! Classic stuff. I need to find another copy of this ASAP. Great vid!
Maybe the best platformer on the system, way beyond Super Mario Bros 3. Weird that this was basically a NES exclusive from Hudson soft. I don't count the Gameboy version as similar. What if Hudson had ported this to the PC Engine as well? Could as well have been a SNES game considering it's from 1992.
@@NESFriend i finally got around to playing it. I am no expert gamer, but I beat it on my first playthrough. It was exactly what I expected based on your review..
Another NES game I've had a good amount of interest for, but I blinked and its price outpaced my interest, lol. I wasn't aware of the film, but I remember there was a Saturday Morning Cartoon around the same time, but I'm not certain about the timing. These projects may have been based on each other, or more likely, they were each approved independently to help keep the property relevant and bringing in money. Like the Ninja Turtle model, but that's just my guess.
i love this game, but so far i have been unable to beat the professor, as he keeps contantly buzzing around me like a fly, making me lose my power-ups and dying......
Love this one since I tried it. Such a quality late system release. Haven't beaten yet, and too expensive to buy legit. Thankfully I can still enjoy it. Oh and if you've slept on the movie, its an enjoyable time. Solid b+.
