When it was on sale (white only) in Canada, I thought about getting it for my mother. But I didn't because I would use it once a month, too. Elected to keep her with a hand grinder for now. Lol. Don't you know it... I want the new one, now!
bought it from fellow and got it in the mail like... 1 1/2 days later. didn't pay any extra for shipping or anything. seriously fantastic grinder. 20g, 50g, or the 100g hopper max. all done in a couple seconds as uniform as is reasonable to expect.
Not sure if this will be available as an aftermarket part. I don’t see why not 🤷🏻♂️ The static reduction is fantastic, every grinder should have active management like this
@@LifestyleLab_ yeah, I tried to search their site, they have the OG hopper out there, but the Gen2 isn't there yet - probably all going into the grinders themselves at this point.
I’ll be switching to the gen 2 catch cup (I assume they will sell them by themselves), as I dislike the lid on the old one. Having said that, I mostly use my Weber blind shaker with the Ode: it’s brilliant for pour over and works like it was made for the grinder.
absolutely no reason to change it if you allready have the Ode with SSP's. The improvement is so little that its only interesting when you have nothing
Thank you for reviewing the Ode v2, I’ve been considering it for my pour overs, which i am currently using my niche zero for both espresso and pour over. I thought perhaps it would be a great addition. Suggestions?😊
The SSP MP burrs will have noticeably better clarity over the stock Gen 2 burrs. If this is something you look for in coffee, then it may be worth the upgrade. If you generally prefer a more balanced cup, and slightly heavier body, then the Fellow burrs may actually be better for you :)
Wonder what you think of a manual Eureka (like the facile) which is close in price below 400, compared to this gen 2 Ode. Probably less clarity for filter coffee?
I just upgraded my Gen 1 ode to the Gen 2 Burrs. I feel like I'm going to miss the anti static featues. I may move my Gen 1 to my desk at work, and get the Gen 2 for home.
For someone just drinking drip coffee in a Bonavita, is it worth gettting one of these or should I just keep using my capresso Infinity conical Burr grinder?
Wondering. Are the fins in the catch cup really necessary? I wouldn’t think it would be difficult to dump the grinds in a pour over vessel without the fins. It seems like the grinds could easily get stuck underneath them.
Oh wow, I did not expect that comparison between these and the SSP MP to be that close. Still thought SSP MP would be significantly better. Would you say the differences in clarity are subtle enough to not need to spend $100+ more?
I didn’t compare to the SSP MP? All I said was now there’s a good option so you don’t HAVE to upgrade if you don’t want to. The clarity jump on the MP is definitely significant, but maybe not right for everyone’s taste. The Gen 2 brew are more about balance than the ultimate clarity on the SSP
I have the older version gen 1 grinder. I upgraded the burrs about a month ago and I’m having issues where the grinder stalls out, quits before all of the 25 grams of coffee are ground. I was thinking about switching to the Opus thinking that it has a stronger motor. Does the Ode gen 2 have a stronger motor than the gen 1? I use a Aero Press for my coffee.
The older version if knocked a couple times along the sides pretty much eliminates any static hold and improves greatly the ground coffee in the cup. So, my suggestion just buy the gen2 burrs and install to your original, no need to make a new grinder purchase.
I've havd my Fellow Ode Gen 2 now for a couple days, experimenting with different grinds, etc. But it seems to have a possible defect. More than half the time after I put, say, 6 tablespoons of beans in the hopper, set for around 7 on the dial, the grinding turns off before all the beans are ground, leaving perhaps 1/2 tablespoon of beans unrground, and I have to remember to check for that and run it again till they're all ground. One time they seemed to get stuck in the throat of the hopper, other times it just shuts off too quickly, while I can still hear it grinding. Is there an adjustment for this or do I need to return the unit?
Already have the Gen 2 burrs in my Gen 1 ode, but the new one still fixes two of my biggest complaints: messy as hell and a redesigned hopper to feed beans better. I have to manually shove beans down the chute fairly often. That being said, still not worth the effort in trying to sell mine and get a new one. I was told my Fellow that the hopper isn't able to be a direct swap but that they were possibly working on one for the Gen 1 grinders.
I personally taste a significant boost in clarity from the SSP MP burr set compared to the Fellow Gen 2. The Gen 2 will have more body, slightly more bitterness on the finish, while the SSP are very clear with more of a tea like mouthfeel and sweet finish. Both are great, comes down to personal preference

Now that all these reviews have been popping up praising the Gen 2 Burrs .. I’ve just been thinking about the difference. I personally LOVE the SSPs - more clarity than I’ve ever experienced in a cup of coffee. But people are going crazy about the Gen 2s haha so it made me wonder if there’s a big difference especially considering the steep price difference. Appreciate it ! Also , are you also based out of Toronto ?
Problem is, it’s tough to do both things very well. There will always be SOME sacrifice with all round grinders. Sticking to a brew focused grinder allows this to be very good at what it does for those who only want that grind range. To grind for espresso would add cost due to the stronger motor and components required, as well as require changes to burr geometry
@@LifestyleLab_ I understand. I have eureka mignon and i use it for V60 sometimes. I don’t get that nostalgic experience and that amazing coffee ground odor as much as I do with my comandante . I don’t know why but coffee smells better to me with that grinder. I don’t know how it is with fellow grinder. I never tried.
@@LifestyleLab_ The Kinu is great for espresso and doesn't take too long, but when I switch out the burr for my pour over burr (already a tedious process), it takes forever to finish grinding. Does the ZP6 take as long? Im feeling lazy haha, so might just go for the fellow. Would be nice to have an electric grinder for espresso too when I'm making multiple cups for guests
Grinding for pour over is quite quick on a hand grinder like the ZP6, maybe 10 seconds for a 15g dose But of course can’t beat the convenience of electric :)

It depends what grinder you are going to pair with the machines without built in ones. Grinder quality has a far larger impact on the final espresso than the machine does.
I've signed up for texts and email to get a discount from Ode as they advertise but didn't receive any codes back from them. I won't order their product even if they give me 50% discount. They are deceiving, Not honest, plenty of other better grinders.
