How could she have accomplished all of the requirements for Eagle if she just joined the boy scouts 1 year ago? It takes many years. I am an eagle scout. I know.
Thomas Tumbokon in my opinion, as an eagle scout, its not about the title, its about what it means to you and other people. Sure, this girl might get eagle scout even though she doesnt deserve it, but that doesnt mean that at heart she is a true eagle scout.
Patrick Carter yaaaah but I’m sorry to say this but getting Eagle Scout isn’t just a name it represents years of work and just because she has entintions doesn’t mean she deserves it
I’m 13 and almost a Star Scout I did all of Cubscouts and I think that Girls should not be allowed in the BSA the girl scouts exist and if they didn’t have anything I’d be alright with it but they have there own scouting program
Yeah there is no possible way. You have to be each rank for 6 months before you can advance. It has nothing to do with her being a girl do every requirement we did, no shortcuts.
@@deyluhnas you could get an extension to work on ranks beyond age 18 if you were 16 or 17 when BSA first opened to female Scouts in February 2019. That gave any Scout joining at that point the time necessary to complete the Eagle rank, which is what this young lady did (Eagled properly in 2020). That was publicly documented and well known at the time of this piece. The reporting (research) on this story is… incomplete, at best.
1st of all she’s a girl. 2nd. She’s 19, a year too old to be eligible to earn it. 3rd. An Eagle board of review isn’t to persuade them why they should give you the rank. It’s to show what you’ve done and prove you deserve it through years of hard work.
The BSA began admitting girls some time ago, against the protests of the girls scouts organization. You seem to have missed that. But yes, she's too old and it's concerning how this media outlet jumped on this story making her look even worse. All i see is a young woman who was having a mildly immature response to a situation.
@@patriot1525 in my old troop, I have since moved to a different troop, there was a 17 year old who had life. He was mentally autistic. He was able to get eagle before his 18th birthday. Yes, he needed help from his mom and the scoutmaster, but he was able to do it. He also joined when he was 11. I don’t think girls should be in scouts anyways, but just because a girl has “done” all the requirements with her brother(s) I don’t think it is possible for her to get eagle in 8 months. It’s complete bullshit.
@@Zurtron i don't really care about it seeing as how they are separated into boy only and girls only troops. But anyways I do think making Eagle is impossible, however she was never given ample time to obtain Eagle.
once you turn 18 you are not allowed to to earn the rank of eagle scout i would know because i slacked off for years and finally finished 3 days before my 18th birthday, if i let eagle pass by after years of hard work it would haunt me forever. she is over age and should not be allowed special treatment. what the rules are for us shoul dbe the same for you, face the fact
I don't nessarily agree with you. I'm not thrilled girls were allowed to be admitted, but they should get an extension. It takes most people over three years to get everything they need to advance to Eagle. Having a shortened timeframe does constitute an extension because they have less time.
@@katelyndelk5540 that makes no sense because boys that are recrited to boyscouts and only have 2 years to get their eagle scout wont have any extension and it is part of the rules.
Bro, do you not get it? The only reason she didn’t reach Eagle before she was 18 was because they wouldn’t let her pass because of her gender. Also, it does state in the handbook that extensions can be provided.
@@skubz81 I do. My answer is you're an idiot and a sexist. Girls can do things boys do too. Not all girls enjoy sitting around doing absolutely nothing as girl scouts. This is coming from a pretty conservative guy who is actually apart of the BSA organization.
@@patriot1525 Listen to you call names like a little girl... You are absolutely wrong. I am a conservative and too was in the BSA and almost earned Eagle scout back in the 80's and 90's but I got too busy with wrestling. Boys and men need spaces that are just for boys and men so they can be themselves and learn how to be better men and young men without the distraction of females and traditionally that was what the BSA stood for since its beginning. The BSA started going down hill once they started allowing "Den mothers" and openly homosexual male Pack and Den leaders, then put the final nail in the coffin of this once great organization once they allowed girls to become BOYscouts.. Its is not the BSA's job to fill the gap because of the poor leadership and lack of evolution from the GSA at the expense of its existing morals, code of ethics and existing membership and not only that but the devaluation of the prestigious label of Eagle scout from those in the past to have earned their bage. This is the exact reason the largest member block the Mormans broke their ties with the BSA and the same reason I will not be putting my son into the BSA when he is old enough. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FaXrYPQFlKc.html
My point is I don’t agree with them not letting her get a board of review. But she did not complete the requirements before the age of 18 which is one of the main rules. I completely support girls coming into scout. But we can’t have one exception. If we do that it means everyone gets a free pass
Well, the boy scouts do more athletic things so if a boy or girl like athletic things then they can join. Its there choice. Girl scouts do more creative things so if a girl or boy is into that than they could do it. Simple! A boy was born a boy but they could also be born creative. Thats not their fault. So why cant we just let them join? Even mabye, there could be special troops with boys or girls only in both creative scouts and athletic scouts. Like schools. This way, everyone is happy.
@@alienfrograbbitchannelmove4229 they should make another group called Boys&Girl Scouts. That way if no one gets screwed. I doubt any boys will join that group, but at least the Boy Scouts can stay true to what it is, an all boys group.
IT's call the GOLD AWARD...GSA version of Eagle...very awesome award to earn...my pastor's wife earned the Gold Award as a Girl Guide in England...it was awarded to her by Lady Baden Powell, who was visiting the UK at the time...amazing event for her and the family....Shje has the award in a small frame in the living room...cool...every time I see it, I think of the history behind it...to be awarded the rank form the WIFE of the FOUNDER of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts....how cool is that !!!
I earned my eagle a few months after my 18th birthday just because of paperwork. Nonetheless she stated she wS 19 so was the age to be considered for eagle and shouldnt be alowed to be in scouts any more.
It's most certainly nothing to do with her being female. It sounds like she simply hasn't met the requirements. This reminds me of some of my worst students. Instead of recognizing their deficits, they insist on their purported entitlements. Once they do that, you can't even think about lightening up on your standards because then you'd be rewarding a bad attitude and the wrong values.
They werent officially integrated into boy scouts until February 2019 and allowed bor's until October 2020 so of course you couldn't do an official board of review...
It’s called Scouts BSA actually. Females have been in the program since 2019. I’m currently a scout and some of the most hard working individuals I’ve met in scouting are females. Girls Scouts doesn’t provide the same adventure or other standards of activities that Scouts BSA does. Females have always wanted to join Scouts BSA for this very reason. She is allowed to join Scouts BSA. She is allowed to earn her Eagle.
As an Eagle Scout, I can say that every girl should have the chance to earn Eagle Scout, lord robert bayden powell talks about it in the original scouting book. BUT i have been watching this girl fight to get into scouting for years, and I can say that she handled this very unprofessionally, and the way she did this is NOT the way an Eagle Scout should act. Shes 19 years old right now so shes already over the 18 year borderline for Eagle Scout
I'm getting my Eagle right now. I love that girls can be in it, but your right. You CAN'T become a Eagle after turning 18, it's the rules. So if they are allowing girls to get Eagle at 19, let the hard working boys do the same then.
Michael Morse i agree! I think that there is no reason to change borderline for Eagle. With the BSA naming a new president, hopefully things will get better
@Charles Spinney just because she's a girl doesn't mean that you can break/change/edit the rules that we have followed for generations. And if they are allowed to have an extension than boys should too.
Yes, if the scouts are going gender-neutral, then opportunities should be equal. However, they already are. She simply joined too late to qualify. They could have made an exception since girls were only admitted recently. If the BSA was a smarter organization, they could have anticipated situations like these for the first couple years after becoming gender-neutral. It didn't help that the Girl Scouts of America resisted integrating and merging fully with the BSA, as was done long ago in other countries. Their joined leadership could have made the process of gender-integration much more smooth. But, to be fair, there are a couple reasons why the BSA leadership could be hard to work with, particularly given quite horrific stories about abuse and corruption in recent years. So, maybe that's the real reason they stayed away. Who knows. As always, the full picture is more complicated than this silly news piece makes it seem.
The minimum time needed to become an Eagle is 18 months. That is all there is to it. There should not be exceptions to these types of requirements. Regardless of gender. Should they give this young lady an extension because it was impossiblefor her to complete the program due to when BSA started it? Absolutely. And it sounds like they did. But what she REALLY wanted to be the FIRST female Eagle Scout....
As an Eagle , C/O 1973 and a 45-year Scouter...I still shake my head when I see the " 11 year-old Eagle" or the "12 year - old Eagle"...I keep my mouth shut, shake my head, and walk away...same with the 137 merit badge earners....riiiight....too many under-the-counter MBCs working those Mid-ways and 'MB Universities"...I have SEE it with my own eyes...MBCs signing off stacks of blue cards mindlessly....to many the truth hurts....sometimes it SHOULD.....
I’m glad I was in Boy Scouts when I was. It has changed so much it’s not even funny. When I heard from someone that they were going to let girls join Boy Scouts, I was just in shock. It has become such a mess now.
It's gonna be better because the real world isn't seperated by penises and vaginas. so toxic masculity will be put to an end by doing so (not at all it'll just improve)
@@hyperactived0ll Yes, there is the real world we don’t want to expose those INEXPERIENCED kids to that too soon. They need to attain enough EXPERIENCE first before they can physically interact with each other.
I like how you say equal work. I worked to get my eagle for 5 years just like all my peers. She got it in 1 year (keep in mind due to the time requirements it's impossible) and she wants the same award? You can't become an eagle scout at 19 as a boy why should a girl get to skip requirements and deadlines?
unless the requirement for eagle has changed ;stops at 18 years old unless you get an extension. did she get the eagle package? the forms start at Scoutmaster and must be worthy and approved. this project is designed to show leadership. The candidate must keep track of all support; attendance, time and money. a schedule of time and volunteers for completion.
Oh god this is not a DRILL O GOD OH NOOOOOOOO!!!!! THIS IS NOT RIGHT. If Girls can join boy scouts can boy go into girl scouts is this how it works now? Yet boys can't join girl scout this is so confuzing
FOR GODS SAKE CAN BOYS JUST JOIN GIRLS SCOUTS AND GIRLS JOIN BOY SCOUTS!? ITS NOT THAT FREAKING HARD! YOU DONT SEE THIS STUFF HAPPENING WITH A CHESS CLUB OR SOMETHING! THE BOY SCOUTS ARE SUCH A TOXIC COMMUNITY. JESUS.
Considering that she didn’t follow the rules to get eagle, and either lied to the reporters or didn’t know anything she was talking about, no. She’s probably not going as far as your average eagle scout
