R.J. I'm pushin' 63 years old you are hands down the best overall guitarist I have ever seen/heard in my entire life, bar none and I've seen/heard a lot, from Miles Davis, (I'll get to him later on) Joe Pass, Jimi Hendrix, Kenny Burrell, Jeff Beck, Jim Hall, Dominique Gaumont, Johnny Smith, John McLaughlin, Herb Ellis, Mike Stern, Barney Kessel, Oscar Moore, Freddy King, Larry Coryell etc etc, and the list could go on forever. You just take the damn cake because I have never before seen or heard a guitarist who gives me so much listening pleasure, your playing sends me to another place, it calms me down, it makes me think, it gives me chills and it gives me thrills and it inspires me to no end. Now the guitarists I did mention above have always been my go to guitarists but the oddball one (Miles Davis) who isn't a guitarist well, I'm a Miles Davis freak and have throughout the decades learned just as much if not more from him about playing, than any of the aforementioned guitarists. Now a few years ago when I first discovered you here on RU-vid my wife asked me one day... "T.F., who is this guy you've been watching over and over and over? Every time I see you online you're watching this same guy." So I told her, "cats name is R.J. Ronquillo and you have to pronounce the "L's" so she gave me that look of okay that ain't what I asked you but alright I'll try again. Then she asked "who's he play with?" and I said look I don't know anything about the cat all I know is he is the best guitar player I have ever had the pleasure to her and in fact right now as we speak, he is the best guitarist, in the known universe. Then I said but if I were to hasten a guess, I'd have to say he is more than likely a studio guitar player who started a podcast. So that was that but a few days later the same thing happened again, and she goes damn you're still listening to this guy and I stopped her and explained that hey I already told you the last time what it is about him that makes me dig listening to him and watching his Podcasts, but you will never understand this unless you take a few minutes and watch this one and maybe a couple others. Three hours later she's like yeah he's really good huh. 😅 But then it happened, it came out of nowhere too and I really wasn't ready for it. She asked me... "is he as good as Miles I mean does he have the same whatever it is that makes Miles your absolute favorite everything?" Hell I nearly fell out the chair! Instead I quickly regrouped and thought about it and then I thought about again and after a few minutes, I looked her in the eyes and said...."yeah, yeah he's as good as Miles and he's probably better too because Miles has been dead for 30 years and musical techniques along with equipment have become exponentially better." She looked shell shocked and to tell the truth I felt shell shocked that I had said all that but inside me I knew my observations and assertations had been spot on and I never thought I'd live long enough to see the day when I thought that someone was as good and if not better than Miles but damn if I haven't, and you're that someone.

Any of you 'oldies' here remember "Might As Well Go For a Soda" from (Rush's buddy), Kim Mitchell? The tone @ 8:41 instantly reminded me of the intro.

I have seen 1000s of guitarists but only a very few use the whammy musically well. You are most definitely one of them!

The best thing about this video for me right now is that I already have an SSS Strat that I absolutely ADORE so I have no problem having to choose between the SSS and the HSS. Now I just get to shop for a nice HSS and while I'm not totally sold on the Ultras yet, R.J. CRUSHES it as always!

I wanted to buy a Fender stratocaster recently, considered few models for months, Am Ultra Cobra Blue, AmPro2 Dark night, Miami Blue, Player Plus Opal Spark... I finally made up my mind to buy this Cobra Blue HSS after watched this video 5+ times. Of course I can't even mimic him anyway😂 Tomorrow, it will arrive finally! I'm so excited!

I played an SSS Ultra a couple weeks ago and was quite impressed. It’s not quite as innovative as I was hoping but the sum of all the parts is a really great playing guitar.

RJ, you are absolutely fantastic. I keep trying to talk my 14 year old to consider going to University of Miami for his music degree, many great players have come out of there. We're Detroit People as well. Keep it up!!

Great playing as usual; I've been checking these guitars out on other channels and I just now realized I have a similar American Fender Strat from 10 or 12 years back that cost me $1600 at the time. I mention that because I've seen comments about the cost-$1900-of this guitar and that's equivalent to what I paid. My guitar has the roller-nut, too but that's just something I prefer. Anyway, I always appreciate your demos.

Sounds great. Only concern is the Fender gotcha bridge humbucker with the two screws at the top. If I wanted to change it, I'd have to drill a hole in the pickguard.

Hi man!!!oredered one , have some questions , ifyou don't use humbuker position, can I get a traditionnal strat sound on the 5 positions??? Isn't the sound too bright and the neck too thin ??? Can I get blues sounds and a certain low end??ALAIN

Hmm. Didn't seem that impressed in the first video, now there's a second video? I'm sure its a nice guitar, but at this point, so are classic vibes. I think it was Phillip Knight, the know your gear guy said it best. Fender has created there own competition with themselves now. Great for consumers. Thanks Fender. I love all 3 of mine and I'd still take some more.

You can get a Deluxe with the large headstock for half the price. If you were blindfolded... I guarantee you couldn’t tell which was which.

I own the Butterscotch Telecaster, it is an incredible guitar thank you Fender. The pickups and electronics are A +, I actually love the guitar under High Gain, like ENGL high gain. Therein lies my only issue with the guitar. The noiseless pickups as a clean base are pretty smooth and tame. I have had the guitar for two years and those pickups are coming out and some true Fender spec vintage pickups are going in (No Casters). I would like to own a Fender Ultra Stratocaster it is a top flight instrument. I hate that on top of the $2000 im gonna have to slap down another $200 - $300 for some vintage pickup the build deserves. I am sorry but I prefer the spec on this to the OG 50 or 60, why not just put the classic 57/62 pickup in or even better a CS 54' bridge / '57/62' middle/CS 69' neck. Now that would be 'modern' and it would still sound like a fantastic Stratocaster. \m/ \m/

Why did I watch this video?? It made me order the same guitar.

To be honest I had high hopes for the ultra range when I saw what Fender had actually done I was rather underwhelmed. It’s a super strat that should have been made 20 years ago. I think the Ibanez AZ models are a better option if you’re looking for a super strat. This is a nope from me 👎 Smooth playing from Mr Ronquillo as always though. 😎👍
