Fender Flare Protective Tape A MUST Have 

Excellent advice and video! Was about to install the Bushwacker Flares on my Fj Cruiser, but hesitated after hearing all the horror stories of paint scratches. Thanks for the solution 👍

Steady hand, good eye, nice job. You know Gear for the price of those flares the manufacturer should take the responsibility for selling a product that will NOT scratch our paint when installed. The problem is inherent in the product. I installed them on my 2008 Tundra, after 6 years removed them. The flares cut grooves through the clear coat and paint, only remedy was to repaint so I put them back on. There's no way I would install them again on my 2019. Remember the old adage; Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me....

I'm tempted to try raptor liner under my flares. I believe the flares will eventually rub through the tape.

I’ve seen several videos of these flares, but now you eliminate the mudflap you’re basically defeating the purpose and I have seen a few once they put the flare on they reinstall the mudflap. And if I stand correct, the OEM ones from Toyota they still keep the original mudflap for both the front and rear wheel well

Mine wore right into the paint, you could feel the ridge in the paint. One place wore right through the paint entirely, can't believe the company don't include the tape with the flares

I am just curious, why not use black electrical tape cuz it would blend in real well with the rubber gasket.

3m double sided tape would fix this problem from the start it would seal the fender flares to the truck and not allow it to move or flex or allow water/dust/dirt get in

I can't believe no one has patented a product to go on the back of the flares themselves to keep from marring the paint. I don't quite understand why even a good 3M double-sided adhesion solution wouldn't work. You basically can't touch a set of fender flares for less than $300 a set and all you get is marred paint. This ain't rocket science.

Not being a negative nanny or anything. But my question is over time would the grime wear through the tape and scratch the paint again? Granted it might take it longer to do it. I do love your videos. So keep up the good work. I have a 04 tundra with 189k miles. Debating on whether to wait on the 2021 model.

You can get 3m protective film tape FAR less expensive top quality product.

I have been wondering if there was a product like this because I recently removed my flares and like you said, there are rub marks and in a couple spots the paint is rubbed to bare metal. How is it holding up today now that it's been on for over a year? I am going to be doing this with mine as soon as I get some parts repainted!

$83 !!!! That’s such a rip off! I found the same stuff for $25 on amazon! You just need to cut it down into thinner strips and a $3 dry erase marker will work fine as a substitute for the blue tape......really for the same $3 you could just buy a roll of painters tape to do the same thing! Lol! Great video though. Just hate seeing companies taking advantage of people.

Why not just use two sides 3 m tape instead of rubber molding? That’s what factory does...

I'm just getting caught up on your videos and i realize i am asking questions about old videos. i hope you don't mind. i am on the fence about the fender flares. both for the reason of the scratches, and other damages I've seen and heard of, as well as i do like the look of the truck without them ( depending on the day i also like the flares more, I'm back and forth.) and i have a 2" offset on my wheels so i want the protection. my question is are you satisfied with the protection the tape provides, and did it hold up?

I was wondering why it was blue. So the blue one is a guide for the clear tape.
