Made a change this time I have. a Kay precision copy that I put new strings on when I was 28 and doing some recording (Being a guitarist I was used to changing strings often) they're still on it and I'm 66 now it still sounds great g . 🇫🇴🏁🤣

Now, when I said bass strings didn't need changing as often I clearly didn't understand just how much of a newbie I am to this whole not changing bass strings thing!! I make that 38 years, wow!

That tool reminds me of a box spanner!

Yeah, same principle just a slightly different build process. I am genuinely stunned at how long the JB weld lasted!

@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams well box spanners have to tighten to fairly high torque, but you only have to tighten to hand tight really. So providing you are cautious it will last for years.

Thanks for this was ace 🎉 I’ve got a brand new fender mustang and even with the intonation set the E string is in tune in the higher frets but the G is quite sharp. Any ideas ?! Thanks!

Fine video but neck relief check and adjustments are the #1 step (not later on)
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
I checked the relief at the begining and it was pretty much spot on, I re-checked at the end just to make sure it hadn't moved. I enjoyed this job, a few unusual challenges to overcome. There was a fair amount of corrosion to deal with but got there in the end.

I just bought one for cheap at a pawn shop. It had a few issues that I addressed. The neck was amazingly reluctant to respond to a truss rod adjustment. I ended up turning it probably 4 complete revolutions to get to to straighten much at all. I shit thee not. I'd suspect that the truss rod was screwed up except that it never lost tension as I turned it. Has anyone else here had that issue with these, or other short scale basses?
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
Four turns is a lot unless there was absolutely no tension on the rod to start with. I found the rod on this one very responsive but it did only need a little tweak. Personally I like a full sized bass but I have to say I liked this one once it was set up right.

I had exactly the same problem you described with a brand new JMJ i bought from the official shop of fender. I wonder if it's a common issue...

@@jimmyml88 Bizarre for sure. Were you still able to get a good adjustment?

You mention checking string height in video but did not say what the strength height is....just gave the OK! What is the recpmmended string and pick up heights for a mustang bass.?
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams 11 месяцев назад
String action should be between 2.4 - 2.8mm on the bass side and 2 - 2.4 on the treble. Pickup should be about 3.2mm on bass side and 2.4 on the treble. More info on the fender site... support.fender.com/en-us/knowledgebase/article/KA-01903

Nice job! May I ask where you source your fret erasers? tia!

@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams 2 года назад
Thanks Lee, the fret erasers came from Crimson Guitars. Very handy they are to.

What flatwound strings are correct to use on these Mustang PJ basses? One I have seen, the taper wrap are in past the nut slot.
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
Any short scale flatwounds should do the trick I believe.
@bobgreen8142

Any short scale strings should do on a bass with a standard bridge, but if you have a vintage Fender or Squier CV the strings are mounted through the body and need to be a bit longer. La Bella do a set specifically for these basses although you can get away with a regular set of strings - I've been using Fender long scale flats and they work very well.

There's something wrong with this bass. It's missing a green pearl pickguard and cream colored DiMarzio Model P and J pickups, like mine.
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams 2 года назад
Sounds like a fine bass, what do you think of the DiMarzio's?
@skybluemarshall
@skybluemarshall 2 года назад
@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams I like them a lot. They were one of the original boutique drop-in replacement pickups of the 1970s ad 80s which means the DiMarzio tone has become sort of their own classic sound among custom pickups and those who have modded their basses.
