How long was your son in active addiction? How old was he when he turned it around and was it anything that specifically helped him do that ? I hope you don’t mind answering , I’m asking for myself as I’m now 35 and been in active addiction since 22, have lost a lot and have enough felonies to never get gainful employment again, and on the brink of losing the little contact and relationships I still have with my parents and siblings .. thank you and bless you for being a cool mom

@@MoAli-wm4ofI'm sorry I never saw your post until now. My son started into drugs when he was about 12 and they pretty much consumed his life till about age 35. His own dad even supplied him with drugs but I had no idea. You would never know by looking at my son that he was a "druggie" because his appearance did not portray his true lifestyle. He was clean-cut, and always worked, even as a teenager. But everything finally got out of control with his job, his family and relationships so he sought help from NA. He still attends NA meetings and keeps in close contact with his sponsor/mentor. He also had a mom who never stopped praying for him in the name of Jesus, my Savior.

My mother suffered through this for years. Just like this. It starts off innocent, then it invaded her life, her decision making. Her friends turned into addicts who then merely acted like friends. Then she wanted it all to change, and be better when my grandparents - finally - decided to stop bailing her out of jail the night she overdosed in our Buick Century on train tracks. What’s my grandfather look like paying for the damages of a CSX engine? That’s the real moral of the story here - once addiction invaded her family’s life, it was too late for her. She died on the floor of my bedroom after overdosing on her month’s supply of Klonapin and pain patches that weren’t hers. Moreover, she died as the most hopeful woman that ever lived. The weekend she died, she was ecstatic, galavanting about the job she was going to get, how she was going to stop smoking cigarettes, and stop bringing strange men around. She had two weeks left of home confinement. Blake, man, I don’t know you. But, do not continue wishing for change. Be the motherfucking change you’re wishing for - the long way. Some of the worst endings divulge at the last of our best intentions.

Blake I hope you see this. I’ve been clean over 6 years and have been where you are. I was lucky and dealt with my addiction right after getting my college degree. The best thing you can do for yourself is lining up jobs you enjoy doing and that’s hard when you’re starting from rock bottom. But get around successful people because where you’re at as I’m sure you know will continue to trigger you to use. You’re going to continue getting screwed over by people down there, but you need to find people that lift you up that you ID as “better” than you. Once you get out of skid row and start finding a clean but fun group …you’ll see a different perspective of people and the world. Start reading about your trauma, start reading about why you attract negative people in your life. Start reading about how addiction is triggered when we have a loss of connection to ourselves, friends/family/people, and the world. I know you’re serious about getting clean. Praying for you.

@@NaturalMagi123 I understand that you do not have the best memories of my cousin. We have all fallen short, chose poorly and regretted things we have said and done to other people that we can never take back. These things cannot be undone, yet we can learn from them. For many people, it can even mean taking over a decade to realize what went wrong and how to make things right. There are many things in this world that do not make sense; things like tragedy, pain, loss, and sickness and there are reasonings behind these moments that are beyond our comprehension. Isaiah 55:8 reads, “For my thoughts are nothing like your thoughts” declares the Lord, “and my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” Most people have experienced painful moments and say, “If God really does love me, why is this happening to my life?” But that is just not for us to try to understand. God allows pain and suffering for one reason, and that is to bring us closer to Him and to lean on Him. If we lived in a world without sin, there wouldn’t be pain or suffering. If we didn’t have pain or suffering, would we even desire to lean towards God?... Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” I strongly believe that my cousin will overcome this addiction. I hope that whoever ends up reading this to the end will have faith in him as well.

Watching this makes me grateful because I realize this could have been me too. I'm 31, grew up in fresno like Blake & went to Clovis West. I got kicked out of a school for weed & went to continuation school afterwards as well. I had a lot of trauma and issues growing up & as a teen. My dad was a drug addict in & out of prison, many close family members were drug addicts & alcoholics. I dabbled in drugs & alcohol & was extremely easily influenced & could have easily become an addict. LUCKILY, we moved to a different city mid way through HS & some life events at that time changed the direction I was going completely, I am forever grateful for those things. Now, as an adult, it's scary how couple of bad decisions as a teen can completely change your life. I really hope Blake gets the help he needs & can overcome where he is in life right now. Proud of you! In my very humble opinion, Suboxone/Zubsolv/Methadone is the way to go. The intense depression and lethargy that usually lingers for many months after getting clean are often the reason people relapse. There is no shame in needing treatment for a disease. Some people, especially those who were almost lifelong addicts, have to stay on Suboxone/Meds for the rest of their lives. There's no shame in it. Long term exposure to opioids changes one's brain chemistry and the brain "forgets" how to produce dopamine and endorphins causing intense depression for years. PAWS is real. It's also the rare person who can quit and get into recovery without going to rehab. Yes, it can be done, but it's rare, and people that do almost always have some type of a support system. This guy doesn't even have a home

Agree. I don't love the fact that I've been on sunoxone for a very long time, (mostly because its inconvenient at times and staying on top of the GI stuff is a bit of a chore) but I also don't think it's the worst thing either I think some medical professionals discourage it because the idea of being on anything long term just "sounds bad", even if there's no abuse of it or significant medical consequences.
@B_Bodziak
@B_Bodziak Год назад
@@TheAnthoula14 Opioids after the brain chemistry is a permanent way that other drugs don't. I think more and more rehabs are beginning to realize this. Thank goodness. People who could never manage to get a year clean, now have several years clean using Suboxone. It's a safe and very recognized medical treatment for a disease. I hope more rehabs and programs begin to recognize it. Although, I don't know if it should be used in someone's first attempt at sobriety.

How does that work? What is happening in your brain that one nods off mid sentence? I know he’s high but how does that work? Does one know when you nod of? When he speaks he sounds completely fine, and then he nods off. Is he high now? I went to Warby Parker to get fitted for frames and the guy helping me was nodding off mid sentence. He would come back and pick up where he left off. I was so frustrated that I left. I wasn’t rude I just felt bad. It’s only a matter of time before he gets fired.

That piano hanging over his head analogy is so relatable and wanting to have some type of control so you self sabotage. I always felt like that as well and would react the same and went thru over 10 years of addiction at a young age and thankfully had good family around me to help. All I can say is go to rehab and go live in a sober house far away from where your stomping grounds are and continue to try and do the right thing daily so eventually you don’t have to cut that cord to the piano anymore.

I went to rehab a few times and counselors who said this to me didn't help. They hurt. As an abused child, a scapegoat in my abusive and dysfunctional family, it was always about "it's not what other people do or say, it's about YOU." It wasn't about me. It was that drugs allowed me to escape the dangerous and harmful people around me that I couldn't physically escape. I didn't need to hear more of that. What I needed, and what got me sober, was acknowledging that the hurt and harm caused by others was the poison and drugs was how I was coping with it. No shame, no tough love, no radical accountability... the gentle voice saying "of course you chose this, what other choices did you have to leave a prison than with your mind?" I have 16 years now because someone allowed it to be other people's fault and put the accountability on them for the harm so I could stop blaming myself and see my value again.

I think it could be what's in the fent nowadays. I believe it is the xylazine/"tranqu" that's in it... knocks you out in waves so the black out and nodding off looks very different than the typical opiates nod. It hits hard, disappears, comes back suddenly and hits hard for another few minutes (black out and not remembering anything). before suddenly disappearing again. (At least in my experience).

@@fletcher932 It may at least help a loved one of an addict. It may even help his own family process some of their feelings. However, he says, "Everyone I've had a relationship with had effed me over.". He needs to realize that HE was likely the catalyst that caused his loved ones to respond the way they did. He needs to realize, accept and own up to HIS part, HIS actions. I doubt ALL of his loved ones took the actions he thinks "screwed him over" without them being prompted by HIS actions. Loved ones can only give so much of themselves to an addict before they have to start protecting and giving to themselves. He's still in a victim mentality and that's not the ideal way to get into rehab and be successful....and actually have a life. Addicts have a tremendous amount of willpower. There's no way you cannot have willpower and be an addict. All of the scheming and effort and time put into getting your drugs just so you don't get sick, takes willpower. He did himself like that. I don't feel sorry at all for him. He doesn't have this, that, or a bath, but he has enough dope in him to kill 10 opiate-free people. He needs to grow up and accept responsibility for his addiction that every day it's his decision to keep getting high like that. Dope fiends think they could outsmart everyone and drag anyone that would listen with a pathetic attempt at a victimhood sob story. Judging by the comments, it's working.

I’m 21 and started at 15.. trust me man if I could go back a few years ago and tell myself to stop I would.. it’s so much harder to quit if you keep on doing it for a longer period.. currently still trying to get off and I was you, telling myself I should stop at 18.. listen to your intuition, cheers

His journey with sobriety won’t be successful until he takes responsibility for his actions. Yes he’s honest about his addiction but he blames everyone else for where he’s at now. He’s got great potential if he can be honest with himself.

Fascinating how the decision of one principal set this guy on the wrong trajectory. What if he had pardoned him and said don't do it again?

Blake needs to be accountable and take responsibility for his actions in his life.

I was going to write this too. I noticed that he presents himself as a victim, a likely pattern that has persisted for years, it sounds like. No doubt he has some major trauma to work through and to reconcile the blunders of his past with his current situation so that he can move on and heal. He’s still young and lucid enough to break out of this cycle. You can still change this, Blake! It will just take some work on his part if he really wants it.

I actually disagree. Sounds to me like he has had a lot of self reflection and is insightful. He takes accountability for doing drugs while identifying what triggers him. How is that playing the victim?

@isee Owls oh trust me, as a woman I am WAY more harsh on women. I know all the tricks and manipulation practices women use to try to muster sympathy from others, and how tactful women THINK they are at avoiding accountability and responsibility for their life choices as well.

Oh you poor kid, decisions are everything son. My son was a competitive baseball player in Australia, though it’s not a big sport here, he was scouted to go to America after high school. Injury let him down and he was lost for a while. He is your age now and coaches. Am so glad he didn’t end up doing drugs though he admits they are everywhere. Bless your heart, Blake. You are young enough to get out of this life. Save up and travel! Sending love from Queensland🇳🇿

Wow! Bold and impressive, Mark. Blake is so insightful and self-aware. I’m pretty sure the addicts grok this 100%. And we certainly need more clean and sober addicts to facilitate healing for those who are still suffering. I think it’s extremely difficult for even the most sympathetic people working in addiction treatment to understand the experience of being caught in this viscous cycle, but god bless them for trying.

He mentions his family can drink all day but they dont see themselves as addicts. its all about gimick control, if drinking doesnt impact their lives in a negative way its not the same as your addiction. He mentions that his family has no knowledge about addiction, well yes the do, they have a son going through it. Best of luck bro, i hope you get clean and find peace.

This guy reminds me of myself from 10 years ago. Pull it together now, get into real therapy and deal with the generational trauma cycles you're running from. You're not doing drugs because you enjoy getting high, Blake. You're medicating emotions you haven't even uncovered yet. Families dominated by alcoholic parents are never healthy environments for children to grow up in. See a clinical therapist, get any comorbid diagnoses taken care of, and get into al anon in addition to the 12 step programs for your own addiction. There's so much waiting for you out in the world, but until you address the real underlying issues, you're going to be imprisoned by the drugs. I wish you nothing but love and light, brother. You CAN get better. Take the first step and make that happen.
