Fentanyl Addicted Father and Son-Scott and Joe 

I’ve never received great news like this in my life. As horrible and sad this is, it gives me some type of comfort. This is my father and my brother. Recently losing my mother was the hardest thing I have ever gone through and I’ve been looking for them for a really long time and now seeing this video is conformation that they are alive and that is the best news I’ve ever gotten. I’m not sure if anyone could help me contact them or find them to speak to them but all and any help will be helpful. They were amazing men in their sobriety and I just wish that I could help them with getting back to it one day.

Dad (Scott) I hope you watch this and see how lost and sad your son Joe looks. If you can find it in you, muster up the strength to put a foot forward and lead the way into recovery and I believe your son would follow. It's worth a try isn't it? I would love to see the two of you in a follow up video a few months from now showing how the two of yall got clean together. I'm a 48 year old exaddict so I have some room to talk. Its harder when you're older because you wonder how you're gonna start all over again, but you can do it. I have no financial advantages and no formal education but I am living a blessed life without drugs and happier than I've ever been. Please give yourself and your son a chance at a better life and take whatever help comes your way to get off drugs. Prayers from Alabama.

i know both of these men. my dad was close friends with scott growing up and I have a lot of great memories of scott and his family from when i was a kid. it's genuinely heartbreaking to see them in this state now and i can't believe this is something i have to type. i truly hope you both recover and so does my dad. love you guys

This is exactly how I felt when I was using. It all became to much. It wasn’t “fun” anymore. It was just to make it through the day..the every 2 hrs of needing more sounds so familiar. Just celebrated 4 year clean in Dec..can’t believe 5 years is right around the corner. I hope I hope they find their way b4 it’s to late.

To come on RU-vid one day, and stumble upon a video of your uncle (and godfather) and cousin, after years of not seeing them, or even knowing if they were alive, is certainly eye opening. My heart breaks especially for my father, who has to watch his last living family member (both parents & his sister have passed, as Scott mentions), Scott, go through this.

I got my old man addicted to fentanyl. I didn’t know that what I was giving him was fentanyl til about a year in and it was the absolute worst feeling i’ve ever had. Knowing you got your dad on fent is a terrible terrible thing. I’m proud to say I got us both off it too. My clean date is 5/30/23 and his is 8/10/23.

To see someone who is still so proud of his children despite their short comings is amazing. He sounds like a really caring person despite the drugs

It’s truly sad to see what genetics and tragedy has done to this pair. You can tell his father is really loving but was raised in substance abuse and with Joeys mom passing while he was so young he could only learn from his father. Truly sad to see but I do wish them the best and hope things change for them 🙏🏽💛

Just because your a drug addict doesn't make you a bad person

Old man needs to shut up and let the son talk. He's responsible for everything yet seems to be oblivious about it. He left out the part, what happened with them and a daughter working at the machine shop to end up where they are at now.

That "you forgetting something" by his son around 6 minutes just punched me in the gut. Alcohol almost always is and likely will forever be a factor in these situations. I wish these two the best and hope they can both come out the other side.

The way he has his arms around his son in the photo, is so caring and protective and loving. They know their demons. I just hope one day they can find a way to break free. They are both insightful and have a huge amount of awareness. Which maybe in some ways makes it sadder. Keep doing your good work Mark and giving people a voice and educating the rest of us

Just turned 21. About 2 years into using Fentanyl, at first all it took was a little bit and the high felt like the best feeling you could imagine, at peace like I was in heaven. I now work 10-12 a day and I have to use every 2 hours to function at work and not feel sick. Today I broke down Bc of the realization that I need to quit, or im be dead soon. All of a sudden this video pops up and im 7 minutes in, I really hope I have the strength to quit

Horrific father-son situation. That boy looks like he’s carrying the load that belongs to the father. I can’t stand the elephant in the room….”I grew up in a great family….they were alcoholics” gah! Son needs to get the hell away. Sorry, Joe.

Hearing the dad talk about his childhood was so nice. It offers insight into how you can have a great life and still wind up in their position. And I think it’s also important to highlight that addicts don’t do drugs for fun. They do it so they don’t get sick. Addiction is so misunderstood in this country.

Had my best friend who one would think... Drugs NO WAY- EVER. It all seems so unreal. She was in her 40s going through a very depressing stage. Broke her foot/ given prescription drugs for pain and then became a junky on this stuff. Totally changed her. The addiction to this crap was beyond crazy. She lived to maintain/ existing, like these guys are talking about. Would find her passed out with her eyes open and flies in her eyes OMG!!! In her front yard- People calling the police thinking she is a dead body!!! Many times... Too many... Everyone was so so shocked- She was very intelligent. Well read, college degree, personal asst positions for owners of multimillion dollar companies. The last 10 years of her life she was literally dieing. She only weighed 87lbs and it's all she cared about. RIP Sandy Moreno My Best Friend You are forever missed and loved...

These two were very genuine & articulate. They seem very sweet & I am glad they have each other. I truly wish the best for these two.

These two are not father and son, they're brothers. Not only because this father is as self centered as they come but because this boys grandparents raised him as well. SHAME on this father. This "father" is so well spoken and eloquent because he was given all the resources he needed in life FROM HIS PARENTS. His poor son cannot say the same, not that he'd ever be given the chance to by his father. This is sickening. How people can see this and not see this "father" for who he is is mind blowing to me. But I guess you'd have to know someone EXACTLY like him. This one hit me for sure. I hope this young man can escape this life and leave his father in his past. 💔 Great documenting Mark. A story you don't see everyday that needs to be told. 😪

Edit: when Joey said "living is a little bit of a stretch" ... 😢 hearing Scott say he doesn't even have dreams anymore broke my heart. When you stop hoping for things in life it's not a good place. These guys are sincere and completely aware of what this is doing to their lives.... There is so much pain in both of them. I hope and pray they get the help they need to get clean and find peace

Slightly annoyed by the comment section, it seems a lot of people are quite taken in by the father; think he's a pretty great guy. I don't see the same thing. I see a man that had a life, a wife, a job, did drugs the whole time, a childhood where he speaks about his father playing catch with him, and then decided to bring a child into this world. This child didn't get to play catch with his dad, or get to have a life, a wife, a job. He pretty much was just brought into an atmosphere of this and that is more than likely all he will have. I heard the father talking about his life the whole time, about how his parents didn't know any better with their addictions yet fails to see the irony in that statement in relation to himself. Then he says that millenials are a problem. I see him as a typical Boomer; they can't do no wrong and if they did well, they did their best, is what they say. Shut down any conversation about criticism for their behaviour.

I think they’re close to surrendering to recovery. When addiction becomes annoying, tedious, something you just do to get through the day, I think that’s when you realise you have nothing left to lose. The possibility that sobriety can be better than whatever state you’re in, seems more and more realistic. Or you just realise that if this is shitty, possibly something could be better. I have faith in both of these men. They can do it, it just takes time :)

Great interview- It seems like this is probably the first time Joe has ever talked about his life out loud- and you can see it in his face as he process his own life. That alone is priceless to talk to another human- Well done!

What a great interview. Thank you! I feel so badly for these guys. Incredibly sad especially since they seem like genuinely good people. Joe and Scott, you know if you truly want off that shit without any withdrawing, there's always suboxone. It works, but you have to want to quit, and you can't do it where you are. I sound like I'm advertising it as I've suggested it so many times on here, but it truly saved my life. You need to get the hell out if there, and I wish you all the best. I have the utmost respect for you and I commend you're ability to hear these stories and let them be heard. I often wonder what toll this could take on you as well.

Scott you should be proud, your son for what he's been through speaks so well and he is a good son. He listened and left his dad get all that off his chest without interruption. Hope the best for you both. It warmed my heart to hear him say we got each other and that is alot. Not making fun either, this was a good story.

I've been watching videos about Kensington for about 2 weeks now. A friend of mine from Jr. High wound up there a few years ago, she was addicted to heroin for decades, she went there after her parents died and her drug addicted daughter and the daughters 2 children were murdered. Her parents had tried for decades to save her, they raised her children, sent her to rehab,, paid for her housing, etc.I have no clue where or how she is now. I guess it was inevitable that she'd wind up homeless once her parents were gone. I think Kensington is one of the saddest places on earth. The first videos I watched of driving tours and walks through the streets of Kensington were actually horrifying to see. It felt like I was seeing some post apocalyptic horror movie, but it's real. People's disregard for the lives of others and their own lives just to feel f'd up from drugs is almost unimaginable to me, even as I witness it on video after video. Some of the Kensington footage reminded me of footage I'd seen in documentaries about the Krokodrill epidemic in Russia about a dozen years ago. I remember how those addicts spent all their time shooting up, not caring that the drug they were using was rotting their bodies from the inside out, or that most addicts using that drug had a 2 year lifespan once they started using. I think it's wrong for the local and national government to turn their backs on Kensington. I think it's wrong for police not to enforce the laws and it's wrong that they allow people to get rich selling addictive contaminated drugs to people that are slowly killing themselves to get high. Jailing drug addicts for using is stupid as is allowing them to leave rehab before their treatment is completed. PA could do away with some of the stupid programs it uses taxpayer and government funds for and build drug treatment facilities that addicts could be sentenced into instead of sending them to jail. The dealers need to be arrested and sent to rehab if they're addicts and regular jail if they are not. There is a lot that could and should be done to alleviate the problem but everyone treats Kensington as if it's something that's grandfathered in, something that can't be fixed, everyone just wants to turn their back on the problem. It's shameful, really. Not too long ago the local news was reporting that Kensington had been cleaned up, they reported the story as if the homeless people. the addicts, the dealers were gone, as if the problems had been magically solved overnight. They aired video of clean streets devoid of passed out people, not a high person in sight, no trash to see, no needle strewn sidewalks. What the TV news didn't show was that the homeless of Kensingtom, the junkies, the dealers, the prostitutes had only moved a few blocks away as police had forced them out of the prime blocks. No one had solved or fixed anything, they made the people migrate a few blocks away, they tidied up the most recognizesble areas, they filmed those areas, patted themselves on the back for the great work they'd done and ignored the real issues. It's no surprise that all the homeless addicts, prostitutes and dealers moved right back into Kensington within weeks but no news crews came out to show that. Where did they think all those people were going to go,, where do they have to go, really? The issues there need to be addressed and solved not swept down the street. Families are failing children, society is failing families our leaders from both parties are failing everyone. Scott, please get clean and get your son to get clean, he looks worse off than you. You guys break the cycle of addiction in your family before it's too late.

I was quite surprised by the conversation and insight in this conversation. Sad that they are this deep together and truly hope Dad pulls himself together to teach his son that this isn't the path he should be on. BE THE CHANGE.

Damn Dad said sooooo many things I can relate to! When I was in my addiction, I would wake up TOTALLY BROKE and somehow come up with enough money for 20 pills dinner for the family and gas money for the next day but now (November 11 will be 6 years) I struggle to keep a job and to have any kind of HUSTLE!! I’m pretty sure it’s depression too but I definitely lost some (a lot) of my hustle I just hope and pray that I get it back. Anyway thank you Mark for all you do!

even being in recovery and seeing and doing everything that is associated with drugs..this channel is hard to watch, especially when you interview addicts. it hits home to me in a variety of ways. but I always hold onto hope every time I see an addiction interview. always praying that they find peace that comes with recovery. 1 year and 4 months later I found my soul mate, have a 5 month old beautiful boy and a baby girl on the way. I wanted it bad enough. that's what it always comes down too. you have to really want sobriety bad enough to we're the thought of using becomes repulsive. I pray they find there way. there's a better life out here.

I honestly came to this video expecting to hate the father for enabling his son and within the first minute, I stood corrected. Addiction is a terrible thing. Nobody WANTS to be an addict, but the mind is so powerful that some people just can't help it. It's a nightmarish hell for everyone involved, and I hope these two, and anyone else struggling, can get the help they need and deserve.

Joe seems like a brilliant guy with a lot of potential. I hope he can get out of this life and share his gifts with the world. The same goes for his father, of course

He hits the nail on the head with how the game has changed. It’s why I knew I had to get out. Then the pandemic hit and it was a wrap. I knew my time was running out. My luck too. I’m on MAT now. It’s been such a relief. I got my life back.

It’s so hard to separate whether it’s genetic or environmental bc they go hand and hand so many times. Trauma, generational addiction, lack of education, there’s so many factors to consider when discussing generations of addicts. Their story is so sad but not uncommon. I truly hope one day they become free from their vices and live a full happy life where they can sleep in their own homes and beds.

Follow up on these guys! They can definitely kick this & start over!!!! They have so much potential ♥️♥️♥️

Man, these two have such potential, especially the father. They’re not dumb or ignorant. They’re well spoken and they perfectly resemble how normal people can fall under this addiction. I’ve been clean for 6 years and I also grew up in a home where my parents were kind of uneducated about alcohol and one thing led to another (Florida lol), but they just truly need some guidance. I really hope they want and find help.

Addiction is real and the brain prospective of addiction is quite interesting. No judgement as this interview stands on its own. Thanks to Mark and self awareness and thank you to the interviewees! At the end of the day human behavior is fascinating and what humans do in situations of survival.

He's absolutely right about the fentanyl out there. I was reliant on it for a while. It's really weird. It's powerful as hell YET the half life is short and you're jonsing by two hours just like he said. It's terrible. And he's right "you're paying to go to sleep" but the sleep isn't good. You're up in 45 mins. its so absolutely scary. It was easier and happier times during heroin and to say that is so frightening in itself. Fentanyl is a demon brother of meth. No fun in it.

These two men are obviously great souls. I pray they get back on the straight and narrow. Hopefully someone will see this and have some type of farm work or something so they can go feel nature again and enjoy time away from the temptations. Good luck and God bless you both.

Another good interview! These guys seem to be good people. Definitely from a good family. Smart as well. Breaks my heart to see anyone go down that road . Goes to show we shouldn’t judge bc anyone can get addicted to anything. And you don’t know everyone’s story and why they chose this life. I can assure you no addict likes being an addict. !

I think these two have a lot of intelligence and humanity in them and would stand a great chance at recovery with a good program. Their B&W portrait is absolutely beautiful.
