I’ve never received great news like this in my life. As horrible and sad this is, it gives me some type of comfort. This is my father and my brother. Recently losing my mother was the hardest thing I have ever gone through and I’ve been looking for them for a really long time and now seeing this video is conformation that they are alive and that is the best news I’ve ever gotten. I’m not sure if anyone could help me contact them or find them to speak to them but all and any help will be helpful. They were amazing men in their sobriety and I just wish that I could help them with getting back to it one day.

I’m happy you got some kind of confirmation they are ok!! Kensington swallows people and you can never find them. I don’t know what it is. My ex has/had a sister out there. All she wanted to know was if she was ok. Can’t sleep at night scared nightmares. Just a simple phone call from her sister and I could see the stress leave her body immediately. We fought so hard to pull her out and she just wasn’t ready. We were ready to do everything for her to get her clean and out of the there but no hope. Hopefully she pulled through and made it off the street.

Dad (Scott) I hope you watch this and see how lost and sad your son Joe looks. If you can find it in you, muster up the strength to put a foot forward and lead the way into recovery and I believe your son would follow. It's worth a try isn't it? I would love to see the two of you in a follow up video a few months from now showing how the two of yall got clean together. I'm a 48 year old exaddict so I have some room to talk. Its harder when you're older because you wonder how you're gonna start all over again, but you can do it. I have no financial advantages and no formal education but I am living a blessed life without drugs and happier than I've ever been. Please give yourself and your son a chance at a better life and take whatever help comes your way to get off drugs. Prayers from Alabama.

I knew if I took them I’d be feeling “normal” in no time, but I heard in my own voice “Not today” and for the first time ever I went with it…after having almost 2 weeks I flushed them, and I haven’t looked back, this was after 24 years of daily addiction, trying to quit when I wasn’t ready, trying to get clean for everyone else, this time it was MY CHOICE, I kept it a secret I was clean for 3 months and then I came out to tell everyone else, here I am today with 1669 days clean today, after my moms passing I was tested but I didn’t let myself give in and knowing how proud she was of me, makes staying clean so worth it. I’ve never went to rehab either, I did it all on my own and I’m beyond proud of myself and learning to love myself genuinely for the first time ever. Feels amazing to be where I am, still have a long ways to go but I’m far from being where I was. Sorry for the long message. 😂 but that’s how it happened. Lol

To see someone who is still so proud of his children despite their short comings is amazing. He sounds like a really caring person despite the drugs
@Skrillon
@Skrillon 2 года назад
Most of us who got fucked off on drugs, are good caring people... Despite the terrible things we often end up doing to support our habits. Opiates especially once hooked, it is a survival instinct to support your habit. Your brain literally enters that mode. You always hear addicts complaining about being dope sick, but most of the time you don't hear about the mental side of being dopesick, which is extreme anxiety and panic. Speaking from my own experiences, I've done just about everything besides sell my body or kill someone to support my habit when I had one. It posseses you entirely.... Sigh I could go on forever... But it's so bittersweet seeing this. My parents and I used to use together.... Completely dismantled my family. My mother died somewhat over five years ago. Drugs weren't the immediate cause, yet they were a huge contributing factor. Their best shot is getting off dope.... But that's literally one of the hardest things ever. I wish you both the best on your journeys. Godspeed!

@@itskeagan3004 really? I find that he seems very loving. Maybe not in a traditional way but he talks very fondly of others, of his kids and mothers of his kids. He talks about his childhood playing sports with his dad and the great memories he has playing with his kids. The way he speaks is with care and admiration, I think he is a very loving guy. It did strike me though when Mark asks about what it's like to do drugs with your father/son and he speaks first, and immediately talks about how his son is who he leans on. It does seem that because of his own struggles, his kiddo has turned into his support system instead of him supporting his son. I do think the lessons a father usually teaches and their roles have gotten lost through their addiction and pains. Sending these fellas strength ❤️

@@icecream_andcookies he’s “seems very loving” and showing action are two hugely misconceived things imo. I try not to hold resentment toward my father, his father didn’t know how to show him true love. I’ve learned how to love, am still learning I should say. That required surrender of my ego and many years of “looking in the mirror”. I’m not saying this is a bad man, I’m saying he doesn’t love himself, he THINKS he loves his son to full potential, it’s not even close. I’m 1,000% a better father off drugs and I’m just 21 months sober. I hope someone sober from their family sees this video, someone who can love them enough until they love themselves. His father might then realize how to truly tap into love, once his brain is off those drugs and he starts to heal himself.

I was actually prescribed fentanyl patches for chronic pain and when I decided to just stop using them, I knew better than to try to stop cold Turkey. What I did was cut down gradually. With the patches I started by cutting them in half and using at that level for 2 or 3 weeks and cutting them into 4 pieces and using at that level for maybe 3 weeks, then down another half, and so on until the amount I had to use was so tiny that I just stopped altogether. The side effects of stopping in this way made it entirely feasible to do. Try it and see how you can handle it.

You can do it, I’ve had addiction problems most my life, cocaine and crack was my drug for years, but I would do anything else when it was around as well. Pills, acid, mushrooms, heroin, Molly, whatever else was around I would say yes to. After a while it just wasn’t fun anymore, it was such a burden in my life and my family that every time I would smoke rock and stay up all night I absolutely hated myself, it made me incredibly depressed. So depressed that even after being clean now for around 5 years I only just recently finally found some happiness in everyday life, to the point where I’m actually smiling without needing something artificial to make me smile. I have energy again. One thing you should do is get on the suboxone program. It can be a bit of a hassle at times, but if you treat the meds the way you’re supposed to it will help you overcome the fentanyl. Believe me, it’s not an overnight fix, you will need to mentally train yourself as well, but it will help you kick the hard shit.

I see a man that had a life, a wife, a job, did drugs the whole time, a childhood where he speaks about his father playing catch with him, and then decided to bring a child into this world. This child didn't get to play catch with his dad, or get to have a life, a wife, a job. He pretty much was just brought into an atmosphere of this and that is more than likely all he will have. I heard the father talking about his life the whole time, about how his parents didn't know any better with their addictions yet fails to see the irony in that statement in relation to himself. Then he says that millenials are a problem. I see him as a typical Boomer; they can't do no wrong and if they did well, they did their best, is what they say. Shut down any conversation about criticism for their behaviour.
@Geoplanetjane
@Geoplanetjane 2 года назад
I agree with much of what you say, but stop blaming boomers for all of society’s problems. We were brought into this world by parents who had all kinds to traumas because of WW 2. Some of them took great advantage of the benefits that the government made available to them and some didn’t. They had all kinds of opportunities that would be unimaginable to those of us who came after. What happened to us after that is that gd Vietnam war. Our folks were more than willing to sacrifice us for that brutal fight. All you have to do to understand it is to go the Vietnam Memorial, in Washington, DC. And talk to vets who go there to meditate and mourn their lost buddies and brothers. And after that the job market has been totally shitty, even for those of us who are well educated. Do not blame us for what we have had to cope with; it’s really a miracle that so many of us somehow made something of ourselves.

I think they’re close to surrendering to recovery. When addiction becomes annoying, tedious, something you just do to get through the day, I think that’s when you realise you have nothing left to lose. The possibility that sobriety can be better than whatever state you’re in, seems more and more realistic. Or you just realise that if this is shitty, possibly something could be better. I have faith in both of these men. They can do it, it just takes time :)

I've been watching videos about Kensington for about 2 weeks now. A friend of mine from Jr. High wound up there a few years ago, she was addicted to heroin for decades, she went there after her parents died and her drug addicted daughter and the daughters 2 children were murdered. Her parents had tried for decades to save her, they raised her children, sent her to rehab,, paid for her housing, etc.I have no clue where or how she is now. I guess it was inevitable that she'd wind up homeless once her parents were gone. I think Kensington is one of the saddest places on earth. The first videos I watched of driving tours and walks through the streets of Kensington were actually horrifying to see. It felt like I was seeing some post apocalyptic horror movie, but it's real. People's disregard for the lives of others and their own lives just to feel f'd up from drugs is almost unimaginable to me, even as I witness it on video after video. Some of the Kensington footage reminded me of footage I'd seen in documentaries about the Krokodrill epidemic in Russia about a dozen years ago. I remember how those addicts spent all their time shooting up, not caring that the drug they were using was rotting their bodies from the inside out, or that most addicts using that drug had a 2 year lifespan once they started using. I think it's wrong for the local and national government to turn their backs on Kensington. I think it's wrong for police not to enforce the laws and it's wrong that they allow people to get rich selling addictive contaminated drugs to people that are slowly killing themselves to get high. Jailing drug addicts for using is stupid as is allowing them to leave rehab before their treatment is completed. PA could do away with some of the stupid programs it uses taxpayer and government funds for and build drug treatment facilities that addicts could be sentenced into instead of sending them to jail. The dealers need to be arrested and sent to rehab if they're addicts and regular jail if they are not. There is a lot that could and should be done to alleviate the problem but everyone treats Kensington as if it's something that's grandfathered in, something that can't be fixed, everyone just wants to turn their back on the problem. It's shameful, really. Not too long ago the local news was reporting that Kensington had been cleaned up, they reported the story as if the homeless people. the addicts, the dealers were gone, as if the problems had been magically solved overnight. They aired video of clean streets devoid of passed out people, not a high person in sight, no trash to see, no needle strewn sidewalks. What the TV news didn't show was that the homeless of Kensingtom, the junkies, the dealers, the prostitutes had only moved a few blocks away as police had forced them out of the prime blocks. No one had solved or fixed anything, they made the people migrate a few blocks away, they tidied up the most recognizesble areas, they filmed those areas, patted themselves on the back for the great work they'd done and ignored the real issues. It's no surprise that all the homeless addicts, prostitutes and dealers moved right back into Kensington within weeks but no news crews came out to show that. Where did they think all those people were going to go,, where do they have to go, really? The issues there need to be addressed and solved not swept down the street. Families are failing children, society is failing families our leaders from both parties are failing everyone. Scott, please get clean and get your son to get clean, he looks worse off than you. You guys break the cycle of addiction in your family before it's too late.
@ddz1375
@ddz1375 Год назад
Kensington has always been bad. Back in the day Somerset was worse. They're trying to keep all the drug-addicted people corralled into one area and in the meantime they are not helping them or helping too much by giving away everything from prevention point. Free food free noodles, showers, clothes shoes, tents and really there are no rehabilitation centers better equipped to deal with fentanyl withdrawal or rooms to house all of the homeless people. Fentanyl is such a horrible addictive drug that is manufactured to be addictive people can't get off of it because they're so scared of being sick. It's a horrible cycle of death and destruction. My heart aches for what is becoming the norm for my city that I love.

I’m pretty sure it’s depression too but I definitely lost some (a lot) of my hustle I just hope and pray that I get it back. Anyway thank you Mark for all you do!
@sciencenotstigma9534
@sciencenotstigma9534 2 года назад
Absolutely. And the drug quits doing what it used to, to propel you to go out and get it and keep functioning. Dopamine receptors get burned out and all humans need dopamine…it’s more involved in motivation than pleasure, neurologically. Over time, it slows down central nervous system function that allows us to do basic things people take for granted (take in enough oxygen, use the bathroom…everything). A great book about how this happens is, “Understanding Addiction: Know Science, No Stigma”, which I totally ripped off for my screen name lol. I keep it in my mind always, because it helped me get and stay off dope. I also had (on the 5th try) a great treatment program and a conscientious MAT doc which is nothing short of a miracle, but they are out there. I hope you find all the resources you need to beat this. Congrats on kicking your habit, I hope things are getting better on the energy level side of things. Depression will really knock down the desire to get anything done, I've definitely gone through the ringer with that. I know it's cliche and easier said than done, but eating cleaner and exercising more could do a lot for your mental health. I was forced into a healthier lifestyle by health issues, but once I committed to saving my health and my life and exceeded my goals, my mentality shifted. I started seeing more value and capability in myself. Every scary thing I accomplish builds my confidence and energy level is as good as ever now. It just takes some time to get back up to speed.

even being in recovery and seeing and doing everything that is associated with drugs..this channel is hard to watch, especially when you interview addicts. it hits home to me in a variety of ways. but I always hold onto hope every time I see an addiction interview. always praying that they find peace that comes with recovery. 1 year and 4 months later I found my soul mate, have a 5 month old beautiful boy and a baby girl on the way. I wanted it bad enough. that's what it always comes down too. you have to really want sobriety bad enough to we're the thought of using becomes repulsive. Trauma, generational addiction, lack of education, there’s so many factors to consider when discussing generations of addicts. Their story is so sad but not uncommon. That always cracks me up that the generation that says crap like that is the generation that raised the millennials to be who they are

@@homelessman3483 exactly. It’s like not only did he raise him, he’s currently doing drugs with him.

He's absolutely right about the fentanyl out there. I was reliant on it for a while. It's really weird. It's powerful as hell YET the half life is short and you're jonsing by two hours just like he said. It's terrible. And he's right "you're paying to go to sleep" but the sleep isn't good. You're up in 45 mins. its so absolutely scary. It was easier and happier times during heroin and to say that is so frightening in itself. Fentanyl is a demon brother of meth. No fun in it.

I don’t think there was a quarter the amount of OD’s from Heroin as there are from Fentanyl. Thanks China 🙄

The shit in Kensington is even worse it has tranq (xylazine) which is an animal tranquilizer and it literally just puts you to sleep and you wake up 2 hours later sick as fuck. Regular fentanyl is definitely better then the bullshit in Kensington rn

100 percent accurate man. I was addicted to the fake oxys that are really just fentanyl for 2 years. It was hell. Thank god I’m off them now, but a morbid part of me wishes they would just bring heroin back. I feel like everyone would wayyy rather just have that. Lasts longer, in a crazy way it’s safer, more natural even. Fentanyl is some weird synthetic shit that is just so short lasting

These two men are obviously great souls. I pray they get back on the straight and narrow. Hopefully someone will see this and have some type of farm work or something so they can go feel nature again and enjoy time away from the temptations. Good luck and God bless you both.

Another good interview! These guys seem to be good people. Definitely from a good family. Smart as well. Breaks my heart to see anyone go down that road . Goes to show we shouldn’t judge bc anyone can get addicted to anything. And you don’t know everyone’s story and why they chose this life. I can assure you no addict likes being an addict. !

I think these two have a lot of intelligence and humanity in them and would stand a great chance at recovery with a good program. Their B&W portrait is absolutely beautiful.
