The gated-shifter Ferrari is the dream of dreams, and getting pricier every day, so is the 575 M Maranello optioned with the much-maligned F1 automated gearbox worth considering given that prices are so much lower? We compare Nick's 6-Speed gated-shifter manual 550 with a friend's 575 M F1 to find out.

I’m a 550 fan overall, loved mine. But most 575 owners I know don’t mind the F1 trans as it suits the GT nature of the car. That said, the 599 F1 was drastically improved. Nice to see a video on these Maranellos, not many out there.

I've heard the same about 599 so that's worth a look in the future, too. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for this video. Both are really great cars. I also love my 550 more than a 575 F1 ( I have never driven a manual 575 - this might be even better but probably not worth the difference in price) If you like to see and hear(!) a 550 driven on twisty back roads watch the video on my channel :) Cheers Stefan

For me the frton section of the 575 is just better looking. And with a bit of good will, the F1 paddle shifting can be quite acceptable. Lifting the foot off the throttle and accelerate at the right moment, it works fine.

Based on the content and comment replies it seems more and more this channel is made by people just trying to make it big on RU-vid who just happen to like cars, instead of real car enthusiasts trying something new, interesting, and actually informative to the market.

Nick here - 1/2 of Car Crush. And this, your analysis is based on what? I own the 550. I had never driven the 575 F1. We were lucky enough to gain access to a beautiful 575 and compare and contrast the two driving experiences. I don’t just “like cars”, I live and breathe cars. Regarding getting big on RU-vid, we could care less. Joe and I do this for fun, when we can, for the joy of the automobile. We appreciate you watching, whether you like us or hate us =)

I had both a 550 Maranello and a 575 Maranello and have driven thousands of miles with both of them - driving fast. Sadly your analysis was very superficial based on a little drive above the hills and just to play the sound in a tunnel. When driven fast, - I am talking Ferrari fast, not just a little tour above Los Angeles,. I mean on real, open, fast roads both in the USA and in Europe the 575 is significantly faster -- and a much better "driver" experience. While I share your view that at slow speeds the F1 is a slow as the manual and yes it bobs, but when driven fast, I mean above 80-120 mph and under full power the F1 is much, much faster! . Of course when driving on Mulholland at 30-60 we are focused on the shifting and therefore we don't notice how long the manual itself actually takes, and in fact going that slow the 550 shifting experience is much nicer and involving with the clicking of the shifter, which as you say is very nice. However, at fast speeds - both in America and driving fast on autobahns in Italy and Germany - the 575 was dramatically and significant better to drive! I mean fast as a Ferrari should. The active suspension becomes much firmer than the 550 and the additional horsepower and torque make a big difference. The steering of the 575 M is way more direct, the instrument panel and steering wheel are also more racy and focused on the driver needs with the tach in the center, and the brakes are better too. Certainly the manual shifter of the 550 is a work of art in feel and sound. Overall, the 575 is actually the better Ferrari. Styling wise it is also a touch more stylish, with a better front facia with a racier look, bigger wheels, bigger air intake and more stylish headlights design. Ultimately, In a decade or two, the differences in transmission technologies will be be absolutely irrelevant as all other cars and technologies will have evolved so much, beyond the technical differences between the two. Yet, both will be amazingly beautiful with a stunning design by Pinifarina and as classic as the 275 GTBs variants are today. I wish you did a less superficial test drive and analysis, providing a bigger picture of what these Ferrari cars represent today and in the future.

Superficially....it sounds like you own a 575 F1. We're here for you. Rant all you like, let it all out, maybe throw something, have a good cry. You'll keep repeating this viscious cycle until you're honest enough to accept that NO ONE with the funds to choose between the F1 or the 6-Speed would choose the former. Not even you. Because you're no dummy! 575 F1 is an intriguing proposition, but you won't find peace comparing it to the so-much-better 6-Speed 550. Says we, and everyone else who knows Ferraris. And the market supports that definitively. Now subscribe, dummy! PS: 80-120mph on the Autobahn is what a Merc is for!!

@@TheCarCrush Do not disagree with you on market values, because that is what the market is going for now. Nobody knowledgeable subscribes to superficial car reviews. With a total of 513 subscribers we wonder who are the "dummies"... (just using your words, not mine). Mine is just 'superficial". P.S. Don't be offended. It shows weakness.

@@TheCarCrush A bit more tolerance towards other views would be nice - especially if they are as founded and knowledgeable as the ones expressed by Matthew. I'm owning a 550 and LOVE it - but highly appreciate anyone who shares his experience with other models.

@matthewasinari497 ABSOLUTELY. When you get on the throttle in sport, the F1 will flat pound the shifts out. It's actually pretty cool. Full disclosure - yes I am currently converting my 575...but I DO NOT hate the F1, and I wasn't sure that was going to be the case. I took a little gamble when I bought the car and it worked out quite well. The F1 has stayed in the car for five years because I figured out pretty quickly that (in pure Ferrari tradition) it expects you to learn it's ways. I like that, but yes, I do miss the overall engagement of the third pedal. I'm sure some would say, "Why wouldn't you just buy a 550?!" Well...I want a manual 575, or more specifically, I want MY 575 as a manual. period. The F1 cars are becoming a bit like 348's - those who know reap the rewards while the uninformed talk about how terrible they are. Of course, we are talking about RU-vid where strong, often ill-begotten opinions trump everything else. If you think cars are bad, try being a professional musician and suffering through the drivel people throw on here.

Are you driving the 575 as if it was gated my step dad had a 4200 Maserati and it took him awhile to learn the rpm to shift one he did it was pretty smooth
@TheCarCrush

It shifts smoothly, that's not the issue, it the TIME it takes to shift. One one thousand, two one thousand and on.
