Ferreira is so fast, driving, and powerful through his turns and carves. I think of him as the new modern Tom Carroll. I love instant direction changes like that. He must really put tremendous strain on his boards, fins, and fin boxes.

Fave heat of 2018, a beautiful display of surfing. Thought Felipe's scores were held back a little, both his scoring waves were absolutely outstanding.

It's funny how Joe and the rest of the commentators always say "the best surfers in the world". Correction, the best surfers who chose to make it a competitive career. There's a lot of rippers who don't compete, who would annihilate the bottom half of the rankings. For instance, Joe said Toledo is the best high performance surfer in the world. No... Is the best high performance Surfer on tour. What if clay marzo was on the tour? LOL

Marzo has been in the QS though not successful. Name those "rippers" plz? What I see is there are many good free surfers that have impressive skills but there is absolutely none who can outsurf guys like Toledo, Medina, John John because these dedicate their life to performance surfing and also have a pretty valuable talent that was recognized as such since they were very young. Matt meola might be better at airs or marzo might be better at tube riding but they don't train their downsides and they cannot reproduce those skills in a 30min heat.

@@bernardmedeiros3974 you haven't surfed with these kids. I have. Surfed Maui for 30 years, and have seen a ton of talented surfers who have never once dawned a jersey. One name that pops in my mind is Alden Paoa(who although is passed his prime has surfed at world class for decades), who you've probably never heard of, along with all the other names I would list.
