if you take in a poor filipino woman in and change her life for the better economically then try to take that life away from her, I can see why many of them (especially young ones) freak out. but that money kevin's offered her would probably provide her with enough money to provide for herself (without working) for a year....at least.

I'm coming to Iloilo in November and was planning to get a condo close to festive walk area, but now I'm thinking closer to the esplanade area. I prefer walking by the ocean or river due to the peacefulness of the area. Getting further away from the festive walk equals lower costs of restaurants, groceries, and condo rentals. I'll still visit that area, but not to live there.
There's Bernwood Tower at the City Proper just a block off Esplanade 4. Then there's One Spatial in Mandurriao at the end of Esplanade 1. Also, there's Uptown Place along Esplanade 4 in front of The Mansion and UPV
I recommend festive walk zone, because you will be in the comfort area and that esplanade is a nice walking distance FROM the area so it’s easy to reach. If you are next to esplanade then that’s all there really is to be honest. Great great walk though it is.
So that was the steak place? The prices are okay as long as the food has that higher quality. Did you happen to see what breads they sell retail? I plan to work up a fair number of baking recipes for when I move there just to make sure I will have what I like... and they make great tips & barter items to share. Part of having a dirty kitchen where I live will be to bake, having those wonderful scents without heating up the house. Hope the sunburn is more comfortable by now!

Location location location in the Phil's. Those prices do seem high. I'm in Samar and it's half the price if not more than half. But I live in the capital city of Samar and there isn't even a McDonald's. And very few Expats. Yeah it's so cheap to live here but, I would kill for a quarter pounder and fries right now. I guess it's all about trade offs.
