The TSC 55 is Festool's battery powered plunge saw incorporating a brushless motor and plenty of flexibility with power. It performs just as well as its mains powered sibling yet can be taken anywhere - in the rafters, at the timber yard or anywhere without any worries about dust extraction or power.

Appreciate your candor pertaining to battery replacement. I have only had to replace one battery on a cordless drill - a Protool cordless drill. It was over 10 years old and its brother is still going strong. I own two Protool cordless drills. The cycle rate on a cordless saw is much higher than the drill, so one would expect less life from the batteries. With the new technology in the batteries, I do think we are somewhat spoilt for lifespan. When working on a building site I use my corded saw at a work station and take the cordless to specific locations to complete tasks. Thanks for another great presentation.

The older NiMh batteries wold last for between 500 and 800 charges. I am not sure if I have seen anyone quote figures for Lithium Ion. With cordless drills the batteries can go on for quite a few years but, as you say, the far greater rate of recharging will shorten the life when using a saw. We will have to wait for some real life reports from people with this kit. Despite this, a busy professional who needs freedom from the mains supply will love this saw. It is a joy to use. Cheers. Peter

Hello Peter. Great video as always. Have you had a chance to try out the newer version of the TSC55? The newest version is TSC55 K which has an anti-kickback feature on it so if it kicks back it automatically shuts it off. I was content with my TS55 until my 12 year old grandson said he wanted to help me build some projects for his room. My wife saw my grandson and I watching the Festool USA/ Festool Live video about the TSC55 K. She asked why we were watching it and we explained the anti kickback feature and she said if it’s safer for him (grandson) to use go ahead and order one. So I did. Now I know if I need tools to have the grandson ask her. 😊 P.S. do you remember the blade kerf thickness? According to my information my new TSC55 K has a 1.8mm kerf blade and the kickback pawl / riving knife is also 1.8 mm’s. If I remember correctly the TSC55 you used has a 2.2mm blade kerf and riving knife. They say the new K version has a longer battery life, consumes less saw dust and will cut more wood and the cut is better…. Cheers Ron

Hi Ron, Good to talk to hear from you again. No, I have not tried the new TS but I understand that it is a sensible progression/improvement which has obvious safety advantages. The blade figures you quote are correct and with a thinner kerf there will be less dust and also better battery life. I am sure that this is not an issue for the TS but the thinner the blade the more likely it is to distort when under stress which would be an issue for the cheap and cheerful saws/saw blades. I must cultivate our various grandchildren and see what tools their patronage might bring! Cheers. Peter

Finally, a video about a tool I already own! Anyway, I ended up buying the TS75 too as I went cordless for the sake of it as you mention. Being a hobbyist, it's difficult to keep the TSC 55 charged all the time. It's a shame you didn't try it with the large parf dogs. The battery doesn't pass them, and it'd have been interesting to show your solution (I have a couple of different ways round it).

Hi Rico, I very nearly set up an impromptu cutting station in the garden with Parf Dogs. I did not anticipate the problem that you mention. My solution would be to use a spacer between the Parf Dogs ad the left edge of the rail. The same may be useful with the TS75. Cheers. Peter

That's pretty much what I do. The parf dogs work perfectly with my TS75 as it's not the battery one. I'm now in the luxury position of having a TS55 for when I'm out an about, which is very rare! I was considering selling it and getting a HK 55 or 85, but I'm not sure which I'd use more.

Having used the HK55, HKC55, TS55 and TSC55 I would always grab the TS55 first. The HKC55 is lighter than the TSC55. Peter

Interesting, thanks. Will keep hold of my TS55 for now then.

Interesting review Peter. I am impressed with it for a battery powered saw. I already have a 240v TS55 so I won't get one of these. I am more interested in the battery powered crosscut saw (similar to the Maffel ones) they have recently introduced. Hope you can persuade Festool to let you borrow one of those.

I have a question for you Peter and Ollie. Since Ollie Mentioned his TS55 being 220v, which I knew… I was curious if either of you had any issues with low cutting power with your TS 55. A friend from the London area recently came to visit me and he was working on a project with me in my shop and he said your TS55 seems a little under powered and that I should send it in for service. I asked if he thought that because his was 220 volts and mine was 120 volts that might be the difference? He said mine did seem a little slower. I will have to find out the UK version’s model number and compare the No load RPM speed of each saw and see if that makes a difference… Ron

I guess I was "seduced," as you say, by the battery power option... it is nice to be able to cut without dragging the cord and vacuum hose behind you. The dust collection in the dust bag is really that good. I would still, if possible, normally use my CT 36, but it's really great having the option now. I've actually never seen a tool with a dust bag actually really collect much dust before. This is also my first Festool with the Imperial measurement option - sorry to say that I'm so used to inches, it has always been a bit cumbersome to convert to metric.

Hi Lawrence, Seduction can be a fine thing - especially when it comes to Festool . I converted to metric 40 years ago but the first 5 years were difficult until I got rid of my Imperial rules. Good luck with your new tool. Peter

Hi Peter hope your well. Do you think this would be able to plunge into hardwood 40mm counter tops for sink, hobs etc?
@NewBritWorkshop
@NewBritWorkshop 8 лет назад
Hi Alan, It should do as it has all the power required. You would need to watch out for kick-back but I am sure that you are aware of this. Most solid tops seem to be iroko or similar which should be quite easy to cut. Beech would require a more patient approach. I would recommend the Universal Blade as it is good at both cross and rip cuts. You can knock out the corners with a pull saw (cheap as chips from Screwfix). Peter

Thank you for the reply Peter. My local Festool dealer has a open day this week coming so will be having a look. I'm on the Festool 18v range system will be a nice addition hoping to pick up some airstream battery's also. Thanks again Alan.

Hi Peter great video , as always . I don't know if you have seen the new handheld cancel router from shaper origin . I first saw it on rockier web add . Do you think ?

Hi Terry, Sorry for the late reply - RU-vid messaging has been a bit odd lately. I am not sure that people will find it particularly goo. It is very expensive, needs all that tape laid out and do repeated passes may prove to be difficult. Peter
