Schools don't teach alot of things. Experience gets you to the next level of abstract adaptation. You can either hold the material and move the tool or vice versa. They do teach that. A mill would be nice. $ometimes you have to make do.
I have read a lot of comments in this video. Negative comments, positive comments etc. Comments from rich , advanced and industrialized countries are turning it down. Yes, you can afford to buy a milling machine, that's why. And you are thinking to your self that you are so intelligent, but you did not understand what this guy in the video is trying to show you. He just want to show that there are so many operations you can do in the lathe machine, not only turning. If you are a talented latheman and you only have a lathe machine in your shop, and a drill press of course, you can do a lot of things. I am also a machinist, right now I am working onboard a ship. A shipping company has a lot of money, but in the ship's Machine Shop we only have lathe machine , drilling machine and welding equipments, but I can do whatever the chief engineer asked me to do. I can do worm gear, spur gear, internal spline, etc. This talent is very important in time of emergency when you are in the middle of the ocean. And what does these American and British chief engineers told me? They said "UNBELIEVABLE you are very talented , you save our soul". Lesson: that is the purpose of this video. Thank you and happy viewing.. from Philippines.
Learn many application processing methods. However, it is better to process using a dedicated machine, so it is not necessary. If you use LATHE for processing, key groove processing, pipe notching, side cutting, etc. are possible.
All for this come from South Bend Lathe more than 100 years ago. The lathe is the mother of machine tools technology. If you don't have a milling machine then, the lathe can give you the way to do many things.
@Carlos.. Indeed! I cut my teeth on a Warner Swasey #3. You are only limited by a lack of imagination/and the "conceived" standard of the machine tool's acceptable "intended" application. I've done similar work on the #3. Love those!!
a good, talented machinist will find a way to get the work done. This is actually a very creative way to achieve many milling operations if the proper machinery isn't available.
The surface finish and tolerances from that setup must be incredibly horrific..I think this must be the " What not to do " example in a safety video..This would explain why there is very few if any retired machinists in such countries as this place..
Few people know that turning is the processing of bodies of revolution, and milling is the processing of planes, in which the cutting tool performs a rotational movement.
I guess the backyard set-ups I make my Harbor Freight mill drill lathe do ain’t so bad after all. 🤣 Good to see your creative abilities when that’s all you got to work with. 👍
Just imagine what this guy could do IF he had all the equipment as found in a modern shop? It isn't so much about equipment though in this video, ....it is the guy's innovative abilities that are truly impressive. The precision is not as important as the ingenuity and knowledge base. The first weld tack. He knows what is needed to simply avoid some spatter, but he also preheats the rod to better control the first tack. It may not seem like much, but it all adds up.😃
@@bradcoffey8984 It is nice of you to think that way, but in reality this indian boy should not be alloved near modern cnc-machines! I would NOT let him touch my millturn
I work in the machining industry. So much is lost with cnc machining. So many new machinist can’t manufacture a part manually. They spend more time programming than actually making the part. They say cnc manufacturing is the future, well good luck with that. I’ve been in the industry for thirty years and seen lots of customers leave cause of cost.
Toczeniem nazywamy obróbkę przedmiotów okrągłych poprzez ruch obrotowy przedmiotu obrabianego, przedstawiona metoda tej obróbki to frezowanie przy wykorzystaniu uniwersalnej maszyny czyli tokarki
That steel must have really work hardened from the heat from you milling the first large flat. And from you drilling the first hole in the larger diameter section.
God himself probably cannot tell you how many men over the years have done milling operations on a lathe with simple attachments and tools. As a child I had a neighbor who built amazing steam locomotive models. His two main tools were a Lathe and a drill press. Often he built the tools he needed out of necessity. I cannot remember him ever owning a milling machine. He did have a shaper, but I never saw him use it. After he passed away my father had the job of cleaning out his shop. I was able to salvage some of his home made tools and things he built and even use much of it today for one thing or another in my shop. You sir mind me of my childhood neighbor. Clever, innovative and get things done. well done!
Looks to me like the difference between "I'll figure out a way" and "nope cant do it". I'd much rather have this guy workin where I work than working for the place down the road.
The boring head at 12:09, cleverly adjustable in two axes, is a most useful piece of work with good proportions. Elsewhere in the video can be seen how the the corners of the V ways are relieved by pre-drilled holes. Good design and well executed. When I drove my British made Austin Mini car around the world, three suspension ball joints broke while exploring India. I fashioned new ball joints by filing up mild steel bar in a lathe, treadle powered by its owner. The car made it back to London OK via Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran etc on those parts. Westerners need to look beyond their sophistication.
These guys obviously don't work for NASA, what they set out achieve is done very well, given the lack of fancy specialised tooling, what they use in producing the 'Horrific' finish is home made and very efficient, you need encouragement not 'Holier than thou' criticism, very well done lads, but please put a guard on that grinder.....
I do not understand using water? Why didn't you use oil (lubricant) makes drills and tools last longer. I know water cools but it is definitely not a lubricant.
Esztergálásnál a munkadarab forog, a szerszám áll. Marásnál a szerszám forog, a munkadarab áll. A film szerinti eljárás ötletesen oldja meg a marógép hiányát...
This is not metal turning it's milling. It is common knowledge with engineers that with the right fixtures mounted in place of the tool post complex items can be milled on a lathe.
Been there done that. If you dont have mill its all about you do the job in proper way,and this is ok. Today you have old milling machine that is ok for small amouth of money.
John smit@ i just show what I do and here I work under my boss's orders. salary 6-7$ per day.. I always accept whatever you say because it is your right
This is a milling operation not a turning operation. You just turned your lathe into a horizontal milling machine with sloppier movements and far less concentric toolholding though i doubt the slop nor toll centering is that big a deal when using a fly cutter welded to a shaft made out of mild steel. Still. Very resourceful for sure. And your achiving very usable surface finishes.
@@Gottenhimfella well your reply to my comment prooves ypur a bot or did not read my comment so maybe just a foolish person? Im well aware what fly cutting is.... I named the fly cutter in my comment. Way to restate without thinking or adding anything.
