Few people know this secret, lpg gas aluminum welding maximizing aluminum welding using lpg gas Few people know this secret, lpg gas aluminum welding maximizing aluminum welding using lpg gas
And few people still know this secret because of the lack of dialogue. It would be immensely useful if you communicated to us what the filler rod is you are using and actually explain your welding technique. Otherwise, excellent job.
Indonesiaan welder often used engine scrap, broken crankcase, melt it with gas torch and cast on iron angle bar 😅. Cheap and worked. 6$ repair. We use this method for change valve angle, valve squish combustion chamber, bypass water jacket and many more
You mean Lumi-Weld sticks??? Been using 'em since about 1968! I used to use 'em with a gasoline BLOWTOARCH! I built a go-cart from aluminum tubing in the 70's with Lumi-Weld sticks. No problems.
You can "glue" aluminum alloys such as AS5GT, AG3 or AG5 or AG7 as you do. You can also succeed on aluminum, although this is more problematic because the melting temperature is critical, but other alloys such as AU4G will be absolutely unbendable with this process. Certain other predominantly zinged alloys will be brazed with tin. Your system works well with cast aluminum alloys. Bravo for your expertise, it's a fine job!
60 years ago I seen my old man weld pot metal and aluminum he knew a hell of a lot about metal when he welded panels on car's it looked like it was done with a machine people could not believe how good his welding was.
Yea, I've seen the same thing (not my Dad, but someone I knew) If I remember right, he welded together the backpacks they carried on the moon. What an incredible guy and there were some really amazing things I watched him do. I watched him torch weld side panels back together with a large rod it only took him a few seconds. No warping I could see.
I first learned how to weld aluminum using aluminum welding rod and a special white paste flux. I used oxyacetylene. It is very important to use a slightly carburizing flame, no excess oxygen. Once I purchased a TIG system, never went back. Using gas though, if I were out in the boonies, had nothing else to work with, it was an option. I've also welded pot metal pulleys. Although pot metal is mostly zinc, I was able to mix aluminum with it and got useful results.
There are fluxed aluminum brazing rods sold now that have good reviews. I want to weld up those leaky rivets on my old Jon boat. I not sure how it will work out. So use a carbonizing flame?
I am Ayman from Egypt and I have been working in the field of welding aluminum, cast iron and copper for more than 25 years. I tell you that the metal of the aluminum welding wire, the auxiliary metal, is different from the metal of the part to be welded.
Ive seen Aluminum welding sticks, but Ive also seen alloy welding rods for gas usage, the ones that can be purchased flow 10X better than what he is using, if you cannot weld you could make a metal plate and drill holes or just fix it with a liquid cement of your choice.
I think this is more about getting a result with what is available. Some places in the world you can't just go to your local welding supplies specialist outlet.
The trick is to be able to know when the metal is about to collapse (or melt) I watched a old man 50 years ago repair aluminum parts with a torch kinda like juggleing with one hand
It helps to have the proper welding goggles for aluminum. Aluminum doesn't change color like steel. Instead, the oxide surface layer is harder than the base metal. With the proper goggles, you will see a skin effect as the base metal melts underneath the harder oxide surface layer. This is the precise moment that you apply your filler metal to begin your weld. Having the proper flux will assist the filler to blend with the base metal.
While it is in service it will crack again and require repairs again. There’s is a better way of repairing this and the way you have mentioned is just one method. Like to see how this guy would repair a fuel tank while it is still full of fuel or weld to V8 Engines together .
It would seem easier to cut a chip to fill the hole, back that up with a chunk of steel to absorb heat and keep it in place, then tack the corners and go from there.
I see substantial skill here, but I do not see one single word describing what the actual "SECRET" is. It would seem to have something to do with how he avoids the oxide barrier from spoiling the flow and adhesion of the molten puddle and rod tip...but the gas mix, the flame angle, the detection of the melting point...how are these things involved in this still very well kept secret? We will only find out by trial and error, but knowing it is possible is valuable.
