FFXIV Dawntrail Has a DARK SURPRISE? [JP Fanfest Recap] 

Happy New Year FFXIV community - it's been a slow year in 2023, but with Dawntrail returning in 2024, expect to see a lot more of me. Wishing everyone good health and every bit of success in 2024. Love you all.

That keynote left me feeling more hyped than I ever thought I could be. I went in hoping to see either Pictomancer, or Beast Master--it never even occurred to me we'd get BOTH. The music was sick and the environments look incredible. I thought going in I had a good idea of where Dawntrail was going to go, and left the keynote feeling like I have absolutely no idea. I LOVE that feeling.

i been telling these people expecting only a beach adventure, they never played a jrpg before???

I saw some of YoshiP's answers in an AMA recently, and he said he is more of a dog person. Which I found somewhat odd, seeing as we have two playable feline races (Miqo'te and Hrothgar), but no playable canine races (and only the Lupin as canine NPCs) So I'd love for them to introduce some kind of canine playable race. Maybe they're from another of the surviving Reflections and are that Reflection's version of the Miqo'te, but are canine instead of feline. (so instead of housecat or lion ears and tails, they'd have wolf, dog, and fox ears and tails)

I have a few theories about the advanced city. One possibility is that they are a civilization that found a way to survive the second calamity (lightning). Another thought because of the similarities between that architecture and the pyramid in Mhach is that they are survivors from there. Maybe the void ark was solution 8? Another theory is that they could be a civilization from another shard that already figured out travel between them. If they survived the second calamity or if they are from another shard, that would bean 10,000 years or so of uninterrupted development, that would explain the very high technology since every other civilization had to reset every couple of thousand years. Since they are so advanced but they weren't already on the moon, I am starting to lean toward another shard. Especially given the casual content planned.

Solution Nine looks incredible, liking the Futuristic theme design of this area, A real Alagan empire vibe.

The contrasting themes and craziness we will be looking forward to in DT is the most Final Fantasy thing ever and I'm here for it. I was both shocked and unsurprised at the same time when I saw that futuristic cityscape, and I'm very much looking forward to the resulting Soken madness! THIS is a huge reason why I love the franchise. Also female Hrothgar are simply perfect!

That high tech area really looks a lot like Fal'cie construction... And one of the songs that plays during introduction of Kryle as Pictomancer is literally from FFXIII. So I think we're finally getting some FFXIII content integration into FF14 (along with that FFXI content he already announced). I think they basically want to tie every game in the franchise to FF14 in some way, ultimately.

The Solution 9 stuff just makes my brain leap to us trying to restore more shards. The Second was rejoined in a lightning calamity caused by a war at the time when stone tools were being developed, so I can imagine an almost retelling in a way. There's some kind of conflict between the North and South for the first half and the something happens that causes the Second to be remade but since it was rejoined it just appears in the middle of the ruins causing that juxtaposition of the old timey ruins with the super high tech stuff, like on the Second if lightning aether went wild it would make sense they could harness it and advance like crazy. That's where my mind is going for a prediction now after EW post game.

Joking aside I am going to tear into Viper because I have been wanting a dual sword class since I started playing in the tail-end of Stormblood. I think the RP community is going to find some unique ways to express the pictomancer class. UNfortunately for me, I reside in Mateus which is apparently the RP capital of the server group. I am also looking forward to see if we get new gear entirely or if its ANOTHER repurpose of old assets. I have already started my pre-7.0 to-do list and I will be waiting eagerly to get the preorder purchased.

I was watching the keynote with some friends in a GC and when the city area was revealed, three of us immediately thought of Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSO2) lol 😂 Really looking forward to Dawntrail just to explore the continent and see how CBUIII explain everything we saw!

Pictomancer, first thing to mind was, this looks like a shards attempt at Creation Magicks

Samurai will continue to be my main job, but Pictomancer will be my new caster. It was my main guess when the t-shirt was first shown and the job I wanted most. I need to put together a couple of glams for the Wild West and Tron looks.

I love Ryne and Gaia. But I don't do ultimate, so I'll be cheering on those raiders for a change.

Dear lord I hope and pray that in time the mech gets and upgrade and will duel wild guns. For now this will be a Relaxing expansion and I welcome it we need a break from Endwalkers ball busting beauty. And yea bro you are 100% right the DO NOT DO AVRAGE. The moon looks different in EndWalker than other places in that expansion.

Loved the video, i cant stop but wonder if the "futuristic" city is actually made by Allag, if i remember correctly (unless i mixed it all up) this continent is where Bahamut was slain by Allag, so there might be a chance this guys are actually Allags that say "i think our emperor and chief scientist are kinda crazy lets run" and developed their own city. Or people from Ivalice, since when you put the cactuar picture the one in the middle looks like the first boss in Ridoranna Lighthouse but with a hardware update. Edit: Nevermind put more attention to the Map, this is not Meracidya, F the long Pargraph. On the cosmic exploration i think it will be a polished Firmament style content. Also with the Dual Dye option, is time to farm dyes for years and become a gillionaire on 7.0 launch :). And last time, i wonder if FemHroth can use hats....

Solution nine looks a bite similar to how Emet Selch made Amaurot in the first. Since you see quite a few futuristic buildings there.

I am guessing Solution Nine is part of one of the various past empires Emet-Selch created, Allagan or not (probably not Allagan just for a change of pace). I wouldnt be entirely surprised if Shinra show up here, too - a bit of FF7 love without having to lean on Sephiroth. Plus that other new area with the train looks like Midgar, and the western town kind of gives me North Corel vibes.

Island sanctuary was never meant to be a place to hang out, otherwise they would have never given it a boot timer, they didn't want to give people free housing

That new zone has me a bit perplexed, the only current theory seems to be some sort of Allagan offshoot but why would they be there thousands of years after the fall of Allag? Time frozen? Hiding from the mainline Allagans? Maybe a later civilisation, Mhachian, though Mhach is too recent and not that advanced? Maybe a culture from the 1st or 2nd Age, post Ancient but pre-Allagan? I dunno. Maybe its something completely wild like a future branch of Eitherys. Also, if Yoshi-P loves us then Cosmic Exploration will be Firmament + Bozja-Eureka + Diadem all rolled into one.

Solution 9 seems like the FFXIV version of Cocoon maybe? XD Or maybe Terra (referencing Solution 9 in FFIX since it's Zidane's Dyne attacks). Might be connected to the 9th Reflection? Juuuust maybe? Also, Heritage Found feels like FFX Thunder Plains? Hope we don't need to dodge levinbolts hahahaha

What I have learned is that Lalafells have always been perfect and there's no need to upgrade us.. except that our eyes were apparently more soul less. Ignore that part.

Excited for the cosmetic things tbh. Two dyes as well as new lighting and textures. The two new classes are pretty neat but also a bit disappointing tbh since they're both DPS IIRC. Either way I'm sure to return once it's released and see if it'll bring me back to XIV after being so burnt out of XIV that I haven't subbed in a long while.

Hmmm, the advanced city are.... I wonder if it's a new civ or maybe an offshoot of the Allagans that survived to the modern era? They do like to circle back to previous lore so that's possible. I do like they're going to make the expansion not just a "beach episode". I never thought they would, but it's nice having the confirmation XD. What I was concerned with was how they'd hanfle female hrothgar. Gotta say I am very pleased with how they got the look; nailed it, IMHO. Dang, guess I need to upgrade my computer rig after all. Better start saving up.

Eureka is still alive to this day. Bozja, kind of, but Eureka seems to have more staying power. Plus, Eureka will now be part of the expanded free trial, which is crazy.

The character graphical update is good, the world just doesn’t seem improve enough especially the crowded area’s buildings still looks so flat out. Btw thumbnail is top tier 😂.

I'm surprised that Yoshi-P wants to give everyone a free Fantasia with that graphical update, but he can't say for certain if it will happen. As for what I'm looking forward to with Dawntrail, and the rest of FanFest; *_FanFest_* 1. News on this 'expanded character customisation' that was teased in a recent interview. 2. Hope for a more precise release date, even if it's just a month. *_Dawntrail_* 1. Viper (Please be fun...) 2. Cosmic Exploration 3. Pictomancer 4. Exploring all of the new areas, especially Solution Nine 5. Hoping the Moonfire Faire that will occur either just before or just after Dawntrail's launch will finally give a new swimsuit glamour that looks good and is *_just_* a swimsuit, no added bits, except for stuff like footwear and arm accessories 6. New Gold Saucer mini-games that are *_NOT_* Blitzball 7. The new two-channel dye system 8. Female Hrothgar (maybe.)

Shadow Lord has alot to do with dynamis in ffxi so I hope he has ties to it in 14.

I don't know why, but seeing female hrothgar makes me so fucking happy. Might be because I play hroth already, but even still....

7's graphical update seems to show better shadow and lighting detail... the textures however just look like what I would expect in an MMO in 2024 (not buying the hype on them yet)... Pictomancer, cough, just a little too camp for my liking.

Imagine being a badass Black Mage crushing your foes with nukes. Then a Pictomancer shows up and draws a silly rainbow and does more damage than you... Thanks ff14...

As a person who likes making dark skin characters whom I jokingly refer to as Darklings. I can't wait to see what my dark characters will look like.

I have been a huge FFXIV Andy and honestly I have been (and sort of continue to be) very happy to be one. However, I am getting worried. The new job is underwhelming (same old elemental magic but drawn rather than casted?) and honestly ill-fitting to the theme of the expansion. I am also not sure how a support-minded caster is going to help the weird spot the other casters are in in terms of balance. However, I am most concerned about the following: 1. Yet another Stormblood split arc. It did not work then and I am nervous that they cannot pull it off now. 2. The two areas also feel disjointed and sort of split from one another one being a jungle and the other a futuristic city. 3. None of the pieces of content (both raids, and community content) appear to relate to each other at all. The 8-player raid likely has some overlap with the new city showcased today, but the Allied raid is its own thing (FFXI) and the community content will have us fly to different planets. I think the overall effect will be a fragmented and disjointed story. Shadowbringers and Endwalker (at launch) had a tight story with every piece of content (even the primal content and Bozja in Shadowbringers) lending it depth. I am starting to fear that the fact that nothing shown thus far for Dawntrail feels like it belongs cohesively together could mean that we are about to experience a split mess that feels shallow and unsatisfying, specially compared to what we have experienced up to this point.

Can't see many straight people playing Pictomancer, between the SFX & Gear it looks very non heterosexual, as in very over the top flamboyant. This might be why for the first time Yoshi P did not come out sporting the cosplay for the new job. I guess the Bunny boys will have a new favorite job.
