Ok, so, i've made a decision with this video. I am NOT going to make another one until at least 7.1. The skill icons are the same, and now all you have to do is follow the glowing lights for your ENTIRE main combo to adjust to the new mechanic. The general idea of the entire video remains entirely accurate, just any mention of a debuff on an enemy and lack of mention of the new buff are wrong. The openers are the same, with the reason now being "get your new buff and also speed" instead of "put up debuff and speed." Order of buttons can be kept the same for Potency reasons. They have claimed they were listening when we showed backlash to the removing of positionals, so it's not entirely impossible that this change gets reverted. To the point that I don't want to spend too much time on a rewrite when I could be doing work on the other new Jobs - MNK, BLM, AST - and other jobs that may have had some big changes but not rework level stuff like NIN and DRG. If i manage to get all the major videos I want done and they still have not reverted VPR, I'll work to put out an updated video. If just for archival reasons. But there's a line between archival and "not the same guide over and over" I want to walk. So yeah, no new video for awhile, if ever. Hopefully it gets reverted to the VPR you see in this video.
The only issue I have with the job gauge is that the buffs align as well with the gauge except when its aligned right. I look at my buff timers a lot because of EW MNK, so I have my buff timers aligned right in my HUD, so when I get Swiftscaled, its on the left (and right if I get hunter's instinct) but the sword gauge indicated right for it. it trips up my brain so I had to swap both dread fangs & steel fangs (dread maw & steel maw) on my hotbar. Same with twin blood and twin fang. Granted I know this is a niche case but that is a gripe I have with it.
@@CL-jq1xsthe color doesn't relate to positionals, but to what stage of the combo you are in (second or third). So if they wanted to color code it, they would have had to add a third color.
@@WeskAlber Add an extra hotbar, hide unused buttons, put your two combo skills on it, make it big and put it near/on top of the stupid job gauge. There, vastly superior "job gauge" you can mentally parse at a glance.
One of my favorite thing with every new expansion is watching your job guides! Doesn't matter if it's a job I play. The way you explain and structure your guides is just so nice to watch. Thank you for doing these even though they take a ton of work! It is much appreciated!
When they described this job, I immediately said “no fricking way am I playing anything this busy. I screw up the SMN rotation and that’s dumb easy.” Then the trailer came out and I was totally unimpressed with the look of the job. Then came the media tour stuff and I was visually impressed, but also stunned by the sheer amount of abilities and said “HELL NO.” Then I finally got my hands on it… omfg, it’s soooo easy to pick up. It flows SO NICE. Never did I imagine myself loving a melee job this much lol Literally half the difficulty of this job is figuring out where to put your buttons. That took me a good three hours. Once I did… I never looked back. Everything became fluid and smooth. My burst phase is set up in a zig-zag motion so I actually get that kind of serpentine slither movement effect when using my controller. It really does play smooth and I have shitty internet with terrible ping and I can double weave just fine on this job. Other jobs… that’s an entirely different story. This job though? VERY well designed. PCT is easily my new main job and I cannot wait to see your opener for it, but VPR is a very, very close second and my new go-to solo job for old content
It is quite literally the single poorest explained set of tooltips in the whole game. So bad that it's better for most people to just braindead follow the glowy buttons than to try to read the tooltips at all.
Even when you know what all the skills do, press the glowing button remains fairly true. But the more you play, the less you need to visually confirm what to press next.
Local RU-vidr Exposed As Fraud: Wesk Alber claims his Viper hotbar setup will "make sense at 100" yet gives reasonable explanations for his skill placement at 80 and 90. Experts are calling this the greatest disaster since the Mother Porxie proximity aoe incident.
Sounds kinda complicated 😅 but thanks to you now Im understand All previous jobs. Yeah... After unlocking viper I'm kinda overloaded with new skills 😅 I love how you explain each skill per level, how to use them as combo with next skill that's very helpful
I LOVE THESE GUIDES. I look forward to them every single time, even for jobs I don't play. You have a serious gift for describing things clearly without dumbing it down or going overboard with unnecessary details.
Hell yeah, the one person I can trust for these guides for new classes lol. Found you first out at the very very end of shadowbringers barely learning the game at like 2 months before EW. I was so lost, an expansion later became penta legend, all criterion savages thanks to you making these guides for new players that don't understand ANY of the lingo. My friends who are new to FF and starting DT currently I've already sent to your channel lol. You seriously are a huge help to new and experienced players.
Viper has been a really unfortunate job for me in terms of hotbar. There is a certain way I need to lay out my base skills for them to make sense but that makes the Reawaken window really awkward: Shift+R > Q/R > E/R > Shift+F/R > F/R > Shift+R The only thing that gives me solace, I am not the worst offender in my friend group.
Don't even need to start watching before adding a like. Imma be watching this so many times to make sure I get my rotations right. Thanks for the video Wesk.

Guess it was pretty straight forward. tCause thats about of what i came up with, can imagine others did too with same ease. Only thing i added was weaving TrueNorth after Reawaken to avoid positionals My only 'mistake' was doing hunter's sting instead of swiftskin skin for the damage. Then switfcoil 1st for recast spd, then hunter coils ^ Think this could work in raid, if you eat something with skill speed (would only do this if you have no or VERY LITTLE Skill Spd on your gear) Love your work homie! Been waiting since EA to see this lol

Love that there's an AOE "opener" section! Since pulls are more dangerous than bosses, I hope you include sections in future guides on how to best use all your cooldowns for trash pulls, since as a new player that was something I was always confused about, even once I had my regular opener + rotation down solid!

Agreed! The most important thing about Viper is how YOU set up YOUR hotbar. I actually find the job guage a big old distraction because left and right so far hasn't worked for me. Up and down so far has but another key thing about Viper hot bars is don't just think you found something that works, keep testing. Your day 1 hot bar may not be day 10 and a month from now who knows. I generally keep hot bars close to each other from job to job. R2 and Circle to R2 and X to R2 and Square is my bread and butter for all jobs with a three part combo. But Viper kinda doesn't work that way. I love the pick up and play of my hot bars for most jobs but Viper is now my melee dps and its hot bar is still an experiment. Great vid like always and I didn't know about the two stacks for the ogc attacks after using Pit or Den. That makes me feel better about failing them early on.
Love your work Wesk and can't wait to watch every guide this expansion you do! Honestly, you're the best at this. Don't forget, these guides will help so many learn and understand this great game! Just like they did for me when I joined in EW and had ZERO idea what an MMO was, how it worked or played! Wouldn't be playing if not for you!

I leveled vpr to 100 before this guide but wanted to watch it anyway. Several people in my fc we’re getting confused about how it works - mostly due to how wordy and headache inducing some of the tooltips get. Honestly imo the best way to understand the flow of viper is to hit a dummy for 30 mins or take a trust and get hands on feel with it. As Wesk mentions key binding things to what are comfy is CRUCIAL for this job to not make you feel like your hands are being turned into knots.

Every time a new expac comes out I'm over here waiting for the updates since too many people don't go in depth enough on the how things work instead of just push it in this order.
My man Wesk on the case! Just started leveling Viper and I think I've got the basics down but this is much appreciated to lock in the rotations and utility of everything. Really fun job to play so far. Curious to see how the changes play out.
Shout out to Wesk for always giving us good info!! My only problem with Viper,Not a SINGLE defensive skill. Thought it was weird considering all the raid busters we have to deal with . Still love the class tho it’s super busy

Viper was the first melee job that I could actually understand and play by myself after reading the tooltips. I needed guides for every other melee and still find them overwhelming (except reaper, maybe)
I felt like Reaper was very easy to understand even without the tooltips on release tbh, it felt like the Job that represents the “standard” Melee in video games, even if it isn’t
Every so often, while at work, I would just put on the EW playlist for jobs. I've spent many a morning listening to WeskAlber. And since this is my first expansion to experience live, I can't binge all of the DT 1 to 100 leveling skills guides. And that's ok.
changing my opener to a dread fangs combo start has made such a big difference in my rotation and damage. Man, who would have thought? I aleays started with Dreadwinder lol
yeah that opener, can definitely see reasons for the dreadwinder combo's positionals to get altered in some way. I expect them to get transferred as flank/rear combo potency instead of being just on the skill so it maintains theme with the rest of the single target combos.
