FFXIV: Just do that harder content

People fear what harder content has in store. Others are extremely gatekeepy. Others somehow worse. But at the end of the day, is just doing the content you want to do.
This video is mostly me encouraging for Ultimates, but this can be applied to anything. What matters is that you try, and have fun doing it.

This is your obligatory Mahjong joke when talking about the harder content in FFXIV.

There's a reason that I use the "Mahjong Master" title despite having cleared all the ultimates B) (okay it's because I'm a hipster but we don't need to talk about that)

Thanks for this video. I don't consider myself a skilled player, or even good at remembering or reading mechanics, but thanks to inspiration from content creators like you, I was able to clear my first ultimate, The Weapon's Refrain, with 4-5 months of progression and help from the community, as a relatively new player who started in the summer of last year, and with zero savage experience apart from unsyncing the necessary raids. (Special thanks to the Ulti Project, and Sausage Roll especially, they're a great group that can provide support and resources even in the early stages of prog). Ultimate is a hell of a challenge, but one of the only things keeping people from clearing, from my perspective, is the determination and willpower to keep going, even when it feels like you're hitting a wall. I ran into this especially after the static I was part of broke up due to scheduling issues, and was forced to jump back into the final phase in a Party Finder scenario. Even then, all it took was determination to become solid on the final mechanics and along with some help from the Ulti project, and after that, finding a good reclear party (due to an unfortunate incident regarding a full inventory) to achieve this dream that I had been practically mainlining the story to get to. I firmly believe that if someone like me, who isn't very skilled or experienced with the game at all, can clear an ultimate, anyone can with the right mindset.

The problem is actually having fun with it. When you have a mixed group of people who have or haven't cleared, half the people aren't having fun because they aren't getting to where they want in the fight, half aren't having fun because they're getting flamed for trying to learn. Ultimate pf is just rough sometimes. I have fun playing the game tbh, so I'll power through. Luckily, there are discords for this stuff. Makes it easier to find good people, even if you aren't a full static, and only group up for pf every now and again.
@bloodykara6631
@bloodykara6631 3 месяца назад
That's why pf will or should always have a short description of what they are doing and or needing. Whether it's new learners, veterans welcome. Running people for Mount farming. Need to know fight, watch video, know mechanics. Etc. That description is what helps people know where to go or can go and what they would need to do or be ready for when joining up.
@CoreStarter

Im gonna go ahead and say this, this isn't true, unless you are massively prog lying you arent gonna get flamed, I'm a triple legend, I spend 30+ hours a week in pf doing ultimates, mostly clear for x, I'm also progging dsr atm again in pf, and I maybe see people getting mad like once a month tops, which is like, thousands of pulls, if people aren't reaching their prog point and are unhappy with it they just leave, nobody is gonna flame you but yourself 99.99% of the time, ultimate raiders in general are pretty chill (you kind of have to be to stay sane), there's a reasons people have hundreds of timate clears, they like helping people, I personally have nearly 50 uwu clears just cause I like helping people, stop worrying about it and just go in and try the content.

It is time commitment content, the luxury thing I don't have. That why I play only EX, at most one week of 1-2 hours play a night is what I can afford.

I used to be a super confident, lead the pack kind of guy but events over the years wore my confidence level down and made me withdraw and stop pushing myself. This game as well as videos from Wesk and a couple others have helped me get back in the swing of challenging and pushing myself and it has bled into other aspects of my life with my confidence rebuilding in all areas. While it may sound foolish to some to take life lessons from a video game or any other form of entertainment, I say only a fool ignores wisdom and learning no matter what form it takes. Im still a new player and am only in 5.4 but i genuinely look forward to challenging myself in the hardest content. Thank you for what you do Wesk. Believe it or not, you make a difference in people's games, but also sometimes our lives too ❤

W vid as usual. I finished Endwalker around 6 months ago and set my sights on TOP being my first ultimate. I found a static that i was comfortable with and we did our first pull. I hadn't been properly prepared tbh because those tankbusters hurt and if I messed up my mid I got clapped. But having people there that just wanna improve without being mean or not getting booted for failing mechs we did previously helped tons. I've since cleared all the ults on Drk and i'm learning SGE and AST to take those in next. TLDR: Take a chance and you'll be surprised how far you can go. Just remember to leave your ego at the door and don't get upset at dying tons because it happens.

I started FFXIV 7 months ago, 2 months after starting playing I tried doing my first ultimate. Obviously being a sprout i knew right away nobody would like me or even consider me for a static so I simply queued in PF and picked up a guide in youtube while i was waiting. I cleared in 2 weeks. Then I did Ucob, then TEA. Finally I ran out of things to do so only then I finished MSQ to unlock DSR. People said I should do all savage before touching DSR or I wouldnt make it. That was a lie as well. Cleared in just under a month. Then I decided to go for the big one, TOP. People said either parse purple in savage or dont do it. I dont even have anything installed to record logs lmao. Tempered by the fires of Ult progging in PF i cleared that as well. Turns out someone uploaded that log and i did ok with green for a first clear. Moral of the story, dont ever let people dicate you what you can do or when you should do it. If you see something you like, jump into it and do it, you dont need permission from anybody to do what you like. Just persist and work for it and it can be done.

I haven't been playing for a long time and always thought that I was trash at the game, extreme and savage was for God players and I would never achieve something like that. But, the friend that got me into the game urge me to play savage so I gave it a try. To go from "this will never be for me" to "I just cleared P9S" was extremely fullfiling. Is a great experience that maybe only fighting games have managed to replicate. Of course none of that would be possible without the beautiful people that make guides, your channel included. I have taken your advice at heart and I believe I'm a better player because of it. Keep up the good work.

I started harder content when 6.4 released and attempted savage. got to p10s and PF was absolutely making me lose my mind, so, despite the social anxiety, motivated just by stubborness and hating to leave things unfinished, I started looking for a static in the European Raiding Central and found one. We got through the tier and are now progging UCoB, out first ultimate. I don't know if we will do it, but for now I'm enjoying it. I find raiding... therapeutic. I don't have friends irl and I'm so tired by 9-7 life, so evenings where I can work with other people on some goal that requires a lot of cooperation and effort, in a nice atmosphere, are just so great.

As someone struggling with getting into the Extreme and savage level: could you do a guide for stuff like food, pots and item level? I've looked around and haven't found such a guide and it kind of gives me further anxiety wondering if I'm virtually griefing if I don't prepare these things.
@Xylus.

I think this is a good suggestion. We need like a "first day of school" guide for new raiders. What you need, proper etiquette and making sure you are totally prepared and not accidentally griefing.

I don't think there really is a need for a whole video abt it Food: Look at what your job uses on Balance, you want to always have it on when you're in an instance Pots: Fights typically have 2-3 uses of pots, you want to use them in the opener and then at the 2 min window when pot becomes available again (unless RPR, which might want to use the pot at tye first 2 min window instead of opener) Use only when going for a clear, as it's a waste otherwise Melees and Tanks use STR pots, Ranged physical use DEX, Healers use MIND, and Casters use Intelligence Always use current grade of potions, will also be mentioned on the balance page for your job Item level - Balance usually might have suggestions about what pieces from your bis you want to get first, but generally speaking the easiest way to get into a current tier is to get crafted gear (it has to be HQ), you can buy them from MB And then you just look at your best-in-slot list and obtain pieces from it in any order you desire It will always have some tomestone and some raid gear pieces, but the beauty of crafted gear is that it's tailored in such a way, that you can clear the whole tier using it pretty much Alternatively, farm normal raids for gear, they yield the same ilvl Right now you can also get augmented tome gear and alliance raid gear, which is 10 ilvls higher than crafted/normal raids gear

I started doing savage at the start of Endwalker and bowed out of frustration with PF getting me stuck at P2S for weeks on end. With only those two floors done I felt like I wasn't truly a raider and found myself adrift churning through roulettes ad nauseam. Then I decided as a joke to try doing UWU since I felt I was too late in the tier to start doing P9S and was bored to tears of the regular content. Fast forward a few months later and I've gotten multiple clears of UWU, TEA, and even DSR via PF and getting C41's from organized clear groups. I'm working on unlocking TOP now and I couldn't even imagine I'd already be this far along last year. Hard content is where I feel this game truly shines and I think more people should give it a shot and find how they can appreciate the gameplay when the devs take the gloves off and push you to the limit.

thanks for your help throughout my ffxiv journey, i found your guides when i started playing back in 5.3 and didn't even understand how combos worked. and now i cleared tea, and working my way through top and uwu, you helped a lot. now in this slow period for the game i just go into pf to help people get their tea clear. it's fun, even tho it can be frustrating at times lol, but hey, if that's what it takes to get more people to clear, then i don't really mind.

While this isn't on the same level as getting into Ultimates or Savage, I was for a while hesitant on even joining unsynched Extreme mount farms. But I recently decided on a whim to join one for Innocent and ended up getting the mount from it. While I haven't done any other ShB+ Extremes yet (too busy with a Zodiac relic), I do think that the step I took was a good one.

I have been trying. For some reason, the idea of starting harder content and in some cases, while DOing harder content, I sometimes get so stressed and full of anxiety that I HAVE to get up and walk and breathe, like it is too much. But recently, I've been trying a lot. And most of the time I am successful. I've recently started clearing pandaemonium savage from the start and it's been so fun. I've also been tackling the Endwalker extremes, Ruby being my most recent and favorite one Another wall for me though, is time. And the fact I have too much of it and often want to play at really dumb hours of the day or night that many will not. I often can't even begin to start something because there's no one available for when I'm playing. Usually very early in the morning or late at late, like past midnight. I feel like I could have been a multi ultimate legend by now if I was just able to summon people at will to play when I want to and keep trying as long as I want. That's very unrealistic to expect of others and I don't, which is why I tended to stay away

I know i made a comment a month ago, but I wanted to follow up with the fact I am taking my first steps as a healer into Ultimate. Still don't have access to endwalker Ultimates due to struggling to get the P4S and P8S clears in partyfinder so I'm taking the advice of starting with Legacy Ultimates, Because even if i did get my Hephastos clear in PF tomorrow, TOP statics probably won't take a player with no previous Ultimate experience, and the same would probably apply to P4S and DRU. I have all 3 older expansion ultimates unlocked, but I'm not sure which i should focus on, if i should focus on one at a time or just try all 3, i've been looking for a static for the older Ults for a bit and so far it seems difficult for find a static recruiting for them, compared to TOP and DRU. There's seems to be less of them and the ones i've found also have some strict requirements, like TEA statics requiring experience the same as TOP or DRU.

I was terrified of doing harder content in this game when i first started playing about 2 years ago. But I also knew i wanted to do it, so like you say in this video, I just went in and did it. And it's the most fun i've had in any MMO. I think what really helped me is putting together two statics that are running everything minimum item level and no echo. Going through every fight in order from ARR onward has helped increase my skill, and now that we are working on doing Omega savage, my confidence is at a point where i no longer fear going into fight, instead I'm excited about what's to come. I can't wait to do UWU and UCOB hoepfully once we're done with Stormblood. A6S and A8S were especially good fights for me as far as teaching perseverance and consistency.

It was something for sure, I've never tried anything above normal stuff so the pacing was quite fast. I had started playing in 5.4 and always considered myself to just be a bit bad at the game. Extremes never really interested me, nor did current savage because of the long grind for gear optimization. But then one night I randomly watched the guide for UWU, and started thinking to myself "hmm.. I think I could do this". Well I studied the heck out of a few mechanics at a time, going back into party finder each time to prog a little further, and sure enough 8 days after I started with about 7 hours spent in party finder and at least that much time spent studying between attempts I had cleared. I'm no where near perfect at the fight yet, but am now having fun trying to get better at the mechanics that still give me trouble because my new goal is to have a perfect run.

It's not that I'm unwilling to take on hard content in a game, I'm just one of those people who learns through repeated failure. In a single player game, or an independently competitive game, this isn't an issue, but in a cooperative multiplayer setting it's completely different, and I'm simply not willing to deal with the anger of other players at me taking too long to get the hang of things. This is why I wish FFXIV had some sort of practice/tutorial mode for harder content.

This is an amazing video and strikes true for how I felt getting into harder content. I was terrified of messing up. I got so fed up of everyone doing the fun thing and me missing out that I just said "fuck it" and joined a static through ERC. Guess what? Nobody berated me. We just.. progged, cleared, recleared and had fun doing so. We're nowhere near finished with all the content we set out to do, but everyone's enjoying themselves in their own way. Static aside, I've also had my fair share of bad experiences in PF, but so does everyone. Try to take it in strides. Fuck that guy who joins a practice party and goes "this isn't a farm party", then leaves. Guy's probably in a bunch of people's block lists already. Find another member, go again. At the end of the day, especially if it's prog, people are happy to at least get some practice in, I feel. And when you clear, it's SO rewarding. I guess the point of this comment is to just reinforce what the video tells you. Just do it. Just get in and see if you like it. If you don't, that's cool. If you do, keep going and keep aiming higher. This shit is fun as fuck.

The problem I have with Ultimates, is that no matter how well you understand the fight, if other people in your group don't know what they are doing, you're done for. And finding a reliable group or people is close to impossible, which leads to PF being just a complete gamble if you find people with a brain, or end up in a zoo. And yes, I do mean that in insulting in some way. If the PF suggests "Titan goals prog" (as I am currently trying to clear UwU) and 5 people just mess up at both Garuda and Ifrit Mechs for literally 40 minutes straight, they either just are literally too bad, or thinking ahead of themselves when it comes to performance, and cannot deliver. These fights aren't even hard. I personally had to give each primal a max. amount of tries of 10-20. Ifrit took the longest because Dashes confused me, Garuda was only a problem as I switched from OT to MT now, and Titan is ... really just easy as hell. Edit: I mean, there's a SPEEDRUN category for UCOB with the most DEATHS and they still clear, yet I am sitting here with 7 other people, which cannot even draw a Z shape for Ifrit nails as an example. Like .. are my expectations for a human being really THAT high or?

I ended up joining a static for p9s... for all of 1 session. The mechanics were just so obtuse, I basically had no idea what was going on, or why I was doing anything. If I was very lucky, I would get to the part where they called the 'limit cut'. To me, it looked like the boss was playing soccer... but he was going by Calvinball rules, so it made zero sense whatsoever. I did not enjoy my couple of hours doing it. The only good thing I took away from this is that it inspired me to make a new dancer glamour. A ballerina, as it felt like going to a dance practice. Though a dance practice where everything was explained in fancy french terms, and no explanation as to why I do something, just simply do that and you might survive. That's just something I don't think I have ever cared for in ff14 is more 'obtuse' mechanics. That fight was a prime example of exactly what I don't like. I don't mind games where I have to think. I don't mind games where I have to dodge. But just like RTS games, I have a frustratingly difficult time doing thinking and dodging at the same time. It's just not for me. Necromancer however... well, I have gotten to floor 40ish in ADOM, beaten Tales of Maj'eyal on hard mode, and do enjoy my rouge-likes. I probably could get it with enough determination and restraint. (from doing some dumb yolo plays thinking I am hot shit unkillable.)

"Limit Cut" is just a name. Unimportant beyond that meaning numbers. As for P9S, most of the mechanics are just the same as in Normal. Only difference is he added in a Lightning too. His "Limit Cut" bits are the brand new bit and you're expected to learn by repeatedly seeing it, and using the info the game gives. That being, those numbers. Part of learning Savage is seeing what's new from the Normal mode. And for the rest of everyone, there's Guides.

I consider myself somewhere between a casual and hardcore player of FFXIV. I know I CAN do savages and ultimates, but I just don't feel any interest in doing it. And then Another Mount Rokkon showed up with that fabulous mount and music. I spontaneously decided to join a blind prog pf and it was sooo fun. But the main reason for my fun is because I went in blind. I don't like watching guides and the like because it takes the fun out of it for me. Unfortunately, this also means a lot of people don't let me join in groups since, by the time I feel like doing the content, everyone wants you to watch a video/guide beforehand. I don't wanna drag anyone down, so I just leave it be until the mood strikes me and I make my own pf, or the fight is so easy that guides are practically irrelevant. I'm patient though. I'll get my blind Rokkon clear one day! TLDR; It is a game. To have fun. Don't do the thing if you don't have fun with the thing.

My issue is I don't want to screw up and waste everyone's time. If I had a static to run with that were relaxed and chill about things, that might be different. I guess I should try Savages more, though, if they aren't harder than Extremes (I do PF Extremes, but have NOT been a fan of the body checks this expansion; too many PF groups falling apart because some people can't survive Gales 1 OR 2). A bit late, but: I did ARR Extremes when I played ARR, didn't even know Party Finder was a thing (or knew much else tbh), so I did it all in Duty Finder with a mix of tired mentors and first timers. It was chaos. And it was honestly a blast. It's some of my favorite memories from the game, and made me wish do more Extremes (sadly I can't but that's not important rn). So I think trying out ARR Extremes is a great idea! Don't think about it as holding other players back (chances are, many of them will screw up just as much as you). Think of it as learning the game more. ARR Extremes is where I learnt DPS checks of both kinds, tank-swapping, party positioning, paying attention to the boss, and so on. And yes, you do wipe before you learn them, but that's part of it. That's what makes the reward of learning it so good. Even though it's been years, to this day I vividly remember how proud of myself I was for my good tanking on Ramuh. Or the adrenaline hype of clearing the HW Ballad mere minute before the timer ran out, after a clutch Healer LB3. I wouldn't feel that good about them if I didn't fail at it before, and with the latter one, it wouldn't be a hype moment for me if ALL of us weren't wiping so much. The "failures" ended up creating a treasured memory. As long as you're willing to learn (even if it might take you a while), you have what it takes to try hard fights, and you will not be holding others back. Rest will be just up to you having fun or not. And if us dorks cleared, you can clear too.

At some point I had macros just to inform people “this is a learning party, the pf clearly states this is for people who haven’t cleared and haven’t progged this specific point, you will be kind and patient or you will be gone.” Then I got burned out after a few weeks of clears and stopped playing. On the subject of the video, I'm close to finishing my EW EX grind with only the mount from EX6 remaining, and I feel I'm at my limit. I'll speak to the solo deep dungeon content since It's something I've been doing a lot of since taking a break from savage this expansion. Getting those solo clears is some of the most rewarding content I've ever done, but that's because yeah, there is a lot of grind to get there. You will fail, and it will be because you made a mistake, or didn't handle something appropriately, or forgot about something a mob does, or just didn't play fast enough and timed out, or even got super unlucky and disconnected mid-run. And it SUCKS. You put all that time and effort into a clear and die single digit floors from the last and it's the worst feeling because it's all you, it's you disappointing yourself. But it's not something you just go in immediately get your clear and title. Every one of those failures is progress. It's something you'll know how to handle better the next time you get there. Maybe you don't get as far the next time, but all it means is you saw something else that you didn't see before, and again, that's more experience. And that experience grows until you're going in there like any other seasoned veteran, blazing through those early floors, handling everything in the later ones. And when you do get that clear, and all those hours, days, even months of grinding is finally behind you, it's an emotional high you'll want to chase again. That's the reason to do the difficult endgame content, at least for me. Can't have the reward without the challenge. The neat gear and titles are just the reminder you did it.
