FFXIV Lore- What it Means to be a Bard 

I had completely forgotten about the Ballad of Oblivion. I can't help but draw comparison between that idea and the Endsinger in my mind...

Got to love when the musical class is represented in a game that also is deadly. Personally don’t like Bard myself, but I do respect the lore behind and the skills it offers.

My character started as an Archer and has been a proud Bard main ever since, so I really appreciated this lore video.

since 7.0 will, apparently, be a return to the adventurer livestyle away from the world spanning threats (I read that in an article which, I think, quoted yoshi p from an interview, so dont take my word on this) I think its high time the derplander finally finishes his jobquest so that the poster job can be bard. Of all the jobs I feel that bard is the most fitting for a traveling adventurer.

This was a lot more interesting than the actual quests.

im so SO happy I made my tiny catgirl a bard in her lore a bard that wont hesitate to start punching when she is out of arrows and will fuss over peoples armors and weapons

Always felt the Bard fits the greater adventure/exploration side of FFXIV. Beyond the saga of light and dark.

I pick Archer/Bard because for me Archer is such a cool thing to watch. They process of shooting arrows is so satisfying. They focus and aim silently. And I love range class. I never though the Bard Lore is so cool.

My own character may have something of an... edgy origin (not that they let this make *them* edgy), but one thing is that no matter what profession they have the most natural talent with, they are happiest when they are brewing potions and singing songs, especially on the battlefield. Though lately they've developed an affinity for stargazing and astrology as well. I like to think they carry, in addition to the Dark Knight's blade and the Reaper's scythe, a harpbow, a set of alchemy tools, and an astroglobe, and tend to use the latter three as they explore and travel the land.

I like fantasy Bards. The idea of kicking ass with the same tools and skills you use for creative pursuits is immensely appealing to me. So I definitely want to level FFXIV’s Bard and let some singing arrows fly. It’s cool that the Bard’s major songs each have a little story behind them. I like when Square Enix ties in the game mechanics with the fictional world they’ve created.

If you do the quest "to me my wayward son" from the ghost of Jecht in Gridania, he tells you more about the moogles part to play.

I absolutely adored hearing about the Bard. I immediately gravitated to the job and I have mained it for quite awhile now. I remember a friend of mine joking that I'd never see the top of DPS but I reminded him quickly, I'm there to make sure HE has a chance at the top :P Great video

A hunting archer in the beginning, grows into an arrow-firing bard. Learns the power of music, from how Jehantel’s troubled past is weaved into melodies. A voice from the rear that empowers allies, and confuses/demoralizes foes, before a rain of death falls upon them. It reminds me how in Patapon 2 and 3, the horn players and the archers are both rear units and I LOVE IT! I’ve written up my WoL as a bard… but also not very good with words. Perhaps the worst poet or storyteller ever, but great at projecting feelings, imaging places, explaining phenomena, through melody. A soothing voice he has, but reduced to wordless wailing more often than not. He can only sing words others have written. Oh and he is ever amazed with Magitek (mostly just Garlond Ironworks products ngl, or the occassional Allagan relic that hopefully wasn’t used in unethical shite), so he prefers magitek bows. I had this stupid idea of what if magitek bows have tabs or buttons that work like piano keyboard or kalimba, or straight up have mechanisms that help the bard synthesize music like Dreamingway.

Currently almost finished lv. My bard to 50. It's not my favorite class, mechanic wise. But the fact that through this you can apparantly play music, giving players so much freedom, makes me love this class.

Yay for Bard mains!

I loved bard so much for the dots and songs, though the quests were probably the most boring of all the jobs with the least payoff for the 70/80 quests. It was cool to get a reference to the Autumn War of course, but even then there's not quite enough info to draw people who haven't heard of it in. You make everything sound interesting, which is saying a lot for bard.

Oh how long I have waited for this. This was awesome. My bard mains, RISE UP! \o/

I'd love lore more involving the Ascians in general. Possibly even a look into Hades life as Solus Sos Galvus.

Random fact: You dont fire an arrow. You shoot or loose them. Fire in terms of shooting things originates from the firing of gunpowder, something bows obviously do not use

I have allways played a bow wielding character in mmorpg:s/rpg:s but i just dont like the bard. I would love to have a marksman type bow wielder in this game.

As much as absolutely love Bard lore, I find the class so utterly boring to play as. I think I've been spoiled by the Hunting Horn from Monster Hunter and characters like Làng Wū Yáo from Thunderbolt Fantasy. Both characters and classes that not only use their instruments to just weave spells, but as their main weapons as well. Thank you Bards for having my back when I go too heavy on my floor tanking ways.

I love the lore. I love the job quests. It's why I picked Bard as my very first job in the game. Then they ruined its essence mechanically. It's just a glorified archer now. I'm just so sad and disappointed :(

The idea of a bard is very, very old. As in, they were the ones telling the oldest story thousands of years ago while our ancestors huddled around the fire. They would have used chants while playing primitive leather drums and sticks. In the Christian tradition, the finest form of prayer and worship that God enjoys the most is singing. I imagine bards marching along with the crusaders of the 11th century, voice raised as they lead the songs of the Crusaders.
