FFXIV - The Retainer experience 

You get a crystal when the item your retainer would have brought back is Unique, and the same item is already in your inventory, and since you can't have two of them because they're unique, it defaults to random crystal instead. (As far as i know)

Fishing retainer: I brought back this friend while I was out! Battle retainer 1: I felled a god that took a whole party to kill not long ago. Battle retainer 2: Here's an entire roof. Don't ask me from where.

I always kinda figured that the Ventures were what they turned into the Vocate in order to get paid in gil for the amount of work that they did. :P

I think ventures could be realistically be just something you need to give for them to preform those services and they probably get paid by whatever government they are employed in. We get seals and other weird currencies so who knows.

Your retainer spends their ventures ... on their own retainers! It's like a pyramid scheme.

math time ventures are 200 grand company seals each you can also buy duck bones at 600 seal each each duck bone can be sold at 360 gil meaning 1 venture is 120 gils now you use 2 company seal to send your retainer for an 18 hours trip 2 ventures are 240 gils divided by the 18 hours their salary is around 13.3 gil per hour on the huge expedition and 240 gil if you send them on the quick explorations

I actually imagine the Retainers actually spend the Venture Tokens like John Wick spends his assassin coins. Like, behind the scenes, he's off getting cool suits and staying at swanky hotels. I'm really convinced my Retainers are retired Warriors of Light and just break into dungeons and property and steal this stuff. It's only when they're feeling lazy they're like "Here's a single Earth Crystal."

Sometimes I imagine they get together with other retainers to fight duties, steal bits of peoples houses, and sometimes they get together for lunch and bring us leftovers or a to go meal. I still feel insulted over single crystals when the gatherers can bring back a bigger amount in 40 mins to one crystal for an hour exploration >.>

I love the lunacy of retainers stealing doors and windows, but my favorite so far is Bacon Bits. The flavor text basically says your retainer made it in a fugue state and I have SO many questions.

A Venture has the value you put on it. Not a corporation, not economics, not some government treasury official. Think of it like rare art or baseball cards. This is the cutting edge of a new, daring field of societal valuation.

iirce Ventures are given by the city states, which your retainers are properly employed by, in response to you doing jobs for them. That's why most levequests can get you ventures. The retainers themselves are paid by the city.

It's very simple venture coins are Eorzea's version of a solid you pay someone a solid and then they pay that forward and on and on until everyone gets a favor retainer just means you're someone's "helper" That's why you get venture when you do "favors" for the beast tribes.

And then on the opposite side they'll come back with the strongest obtainable raid weapon in normal content. Or literal housing exteriors. And you look upon them with fear in your heart.

My retainer experience has been nothing compared to PotD. I keep getting random people's underwear.

One of my retainers is on boring but steady and dependable crystal farming duties. The other is on the far more volatile quick venture duty, which SOMETIMES nets me a crate full of two jet black dyes that some asshole will pay half a million gil each for. I have a favorite retainer.

"Buddy, I got two of you guys! Why can't you be more like T'hiccstola?! She ripped off a roof!"

Its the thought that counts! I burn thru so many crystals that i could honestly use any i can get my hands on. But if you wanna farm crystals for me THAT much. You can get them hourly for me, kay? 😊

You should've touched on the fact you can send a fisher out on a quick venture and bring back like gear from the 13th

Imagine the retainers going wherever they go to get their loot and being subjected to RNG as the WoL while ALSO having to compete with other people retainers AND a deadline limiting their ability to grind. How good their loot is depends on how much luck they had that day.

They get paid?! That's better than what we did with our off-screen hirelings back in ESO. We just got mail from then every 24 hours with free shit, and a short snippet of what adventures they had. One hireling I had went to Black Marsh to the fabled "wamasu scale treatment" technique. Turns out it was a local saying for something impossible. But yeah, it was good to get free stuff for everyday. Wamasu are giant lightning spitting lizards that look like a cross between a croc and a dragon.

The retainer revolution is almost upon us XD

I mean I'm giving the Flames rare weapons and armor from literally other worlds in exchange for these ventures so they BETTER be worth something

I always figured the lore was that your retainers get paid on a set, per job rate handled through the venture registry. You pay them the venture, they cash it in at the registry desk and get paid since it's proof the job is complete. And since you can only gain ventures in certain ways, including levequests, grand companies, and trading with tribes - the proceeds they get paid with are just a pool of funds drawn from the results of the service you've already done. You're not paying them directly, just giving proof of completion which gets handed to the venture registry for pay!

You'll get lots of 'exposure,' that's something you like right?

Ye the retainer vocate mentions that the ventures are essentially chits that retainers turn in for payment. How much payment is anyone's guess.

Stumbled upon this channel cuz I've been curious about FF 14. Don't know much about the game but your videos are pretty enjoyable! Wish one of my friends would get it with me tho since I've never played an MMO and would not want to jump into it solo.

I'm pretty sure when i unlocked my retainers there was a bit of lore text saying they get paid in ventures, which they use to buy Room/board/exchange for goods at the person who you talked to to hire them.

I figured it was like retainers turn them in on their own and either get paid from the amount or turn them in for goods and services to put them back in circulation.

Lets hope they don't unionize or we may start having to actually pay them in something other than funbucks.

I could totally be misremembering it and it's just a fake memory that wormed its way into my head, but I think I remember the retainer NPC in each city market saying something along the lines that ventures are redeemable by retainers in exchange for gil or other goods/services by the Adventurer's Guild, almost like a company scrip. It could be repeatable dialogue if you talk to them, or maybe it's something they said the first time you meet them, shortly after unlocking retainers early on in ARR. Again tho, might just be me imagining things.

When Endwalker dropped I immediately forced a race change on my retainers. Now I have a bunnyboy harem.

And WHY do we pay them in ventures? Cause that's the only payment they accept smh my head. I'd pay them in gil if it meant not needing to farm ventures ever.

Meanwhile a retaininer bringing you the roof of a mansion. Look dude I have a cottage where is that going to fit? xD

far as I recall, I think ventures are a guild-minted currency that retainers can trade in at the guild, and that the whole system was created as an incentive for taking certain jobs, but I'd have to re-read on the specifics point is, you're indirectly paying them in monopoly money that they can trade for actual money

I'd like to think that 'Ventures' in order to be monetary gain, would be a thing the retainers can turn into the Retainer Vocate for actual Gil, and there's retainers out there that realised they can just get Ventures for doing other things like joining a grand company or doing levequests and they've been cheating the system.

Mine keeps giving me a bowl of sweet cream. I am horrified.

I have friends who, through getting some of their favorite classes to 90 before getting to Endwalker.... have Retainers that steal regularly from Rowena and also give them level 90 gear they should not have. We are afraid.

The only real explanation as to why they return to you with such poor quality loot. They aren't getting paid enough. Not to mention, being out there for 18 hours in the field.

iirc retainers are paid from the city states tax reserves, the retainer guide npc had the whole lore dump

To be fair too our retainers, if we weren't the wol we would be paid in grand company seals so we just got lucky lol

The higher the ilvl of your Retainer the better the stuff they bring for there ventures. So that old 590/605 ilvl armor and weapon your not using slap it on your Retainer! You might get something you'll like or something like a 100+ Bombokos and Stuffed Alphas like me...

I wont lie, i felt guilty that i didnt pay mine. So now they have 4,000 gil each anytime they go out on a venture, that way its like im paying for any expenses or luxuries they may want, while on the job. So they learn, and they can pay for what they want.

Whenever my retainers give me that sh I wanna slap them hard. xD I have a headcanon that retainers can trade Ventures for some good stuff, but only retainers can actually exchange good sh with them. Any other person can't do anything with Ventures other than pay their retainers with them. And the Ventures you buy off the GC or whatever? They came from retainers trading them in for goods.

Well my retainers live in my 2 big ass mansions, have gear higher level than most of the playerbase and are better dressed that most players. That has to count for something, right?

Honestly kinda impressive to just get one... I mean you have to really TRY and not get more than 3's or 5's, on a single gather..... Especially with all the gear i deck you out in.....

Okay, listen here MFer, I typically tell you to do like 4 quick ventures daily meaning you're doing a 28 hour workweek for 48 ventures meaning I spent 9600 company points on those which is like giving to company 10 pieces of lvl50 gear, basically the peak stuff most people can dream of. With helmet, cuirass, gloves, pants and boots being 5 parts that's like 2 sets of high quality armor weekly - a decent medieval armorer made one top quality set monthly and could sustain a familty with the income and you get equivalent of 8 armors per month, take the compensation up with the company, they told me to pay you with it so they should compensate you for it!!!
