I'd just like point out that one of my characters completed The Coils and one of my characters started the Coils but did not complete it, which prompted some unique responses from Alisaie and Alphinaud. It's a very nice touch.
Fun fact, if you start Coils but don't finish it, there is another unique dialog where she thanks you for joining her in the expedition even though you weren't able to finish it. The way she phrases it makes it sound like you got called away on important business, and the expedition stalled from there
You would think that would lead to a bad timeline where Bahamut rises again. We can only assume that somehow Phoenix broke free and turned off the internment hulks before it was too late.
Alphinaud also has some special reactions if you've completed coils. Something along the lines of how the journey the three of you took gives him confidence.
The Coils are incredible. Not just the story and final extended CG scene, but they also have some of the best designed content in all of FFXIV that actually teach you a bunch of mechanics for later expansions. They should 100% make it mandatory.

I never said "the best" is said "one of the best". Whcih is true imo. Even years later i doesn't have too much competition aside from some HW and SB EX and Savage. The meteros alone were an idiot filter for years and probably still are today. Coils are a prime example of how the casual 99% playbase can't do basic mechanics and always rely on others.
Make it mandatory for the end of heavensward maybe. Otherwise ARR has so much shit you gotta do. Sure it’s a lot of content for free trial players, but when I bought every expansion I wanna get through them just a bit faster than the speed of paint drying.
I got to turn 5 of the Coils solo and then promptly ended it there because I am clearly not strong enough for it yet, but Alisae does still mention my involvement in the Coils, so that's nice
They should make Coils mandatory like Crystal Tower, that entire raid has so much for both the twins, and the fate of Bahamut Either that, or at the very least include Coils into roulette so people who want to complete it can do it faster Or just, I don't know, revamp Coils to make it more compact and shorter?
Man, that reminds me of shadowbringers first release. When you finish the 3 trial and meet with the Crystal Exarch there was an optional dialogue only if you had finished the crystal tower alliance raid. (I believe now its mandatory to complete the raid before starting the expansion).
Once upon a time, I thought everyone had these interactions with Alisaue, but I've legitimately had raid teammates in Endwalker who didn't do the coils
I'm pretty sure I was well into Stormblood before I knew about the Coils.. and during the entirety of ARR until her first appearance in MSQ after she leaves Alphinaud, I was really wondering where she actually went off to. Wish they would've made the Coils a more obvious / required thing to do.
I'm still surprised that Binding Coils isn't mandatory like Crystal Tower. It sets up Alisaie's character arc just like CT sets up G'raha's arc and Shadowbringers.
I didn't do the Coils before going into HW. In fact I didn't unlock them for a very long time after finishing EW. I did them with 2000 hours of game time, two savage tiers, bozja and eureka done XDDDDD. Feels good man.
After 3 years of playing i decided to finally do coils with my 659 item lvl tank, it was fun to slowly drain the bosses with auto attacks to see what kind of mechanics they would throw at you and i even saw the Twintania twisters that seem to have a legendary status among the older ff14 content creators (oh and some bosses just killed you if you did not nuke them 😂)
Its like if you complete a relic before finishing the post story of like Heavensword. Alphi mentions that you have an abundance of Anima. The Zodiac on Gerolt mentions its been 3 years since you've made ARRs weapon in HnS
I remember back in ARR, something like less than 5% cleared the coils and get to see the flame of truth cutscene. I was among those raiders. It was kind of hard not to talk about it in the FC because it was a huge spoiler. So, most of us kept it to ourselves.
There's a lot more reactions coming from having done Coils in future Expansions, with some exceptions where the game automatically assumes you did it(notably one of the first cutscenes where Zenos refers to the WoL as "Bahamut's Conqueror"), too.
Using Party Finder… its hard cause nobody seems to want to do them synched (in my experience). Some of my endgame friends just hate the Coils and are not willing to help me. I had to find someone who was lvl 90 and willing to run it unsynched with me and I let them one shot everything just so I could watch the cutscenes… the raid itself is fairly boring from what I could tell, but I still really wanted to story from it
Just saw your vid and I didn’t do it the first time around due to the insane wait time and I was new to the game so I didn’t know how to use party finder. But I’m going on the second adventure and a friend help me out with that so I got to experience it this time around.
The coils are the only Blue quest content my buddy and I skipped from ARE to shadowbringers over our two year journey (except for the ending of Eden and the Nier raids, due to wanting to start Endwalker sometime before the next expac got announced). I regret that sometimes and I'm looking forward to doing it soon
My first play through of ARR i didn't do Coils, and I noticed several differences on my second play through because I did Coils as soon as they were unlocked
Hey idk if you already have made a video about it but just wanna mention it, if you completed the stormblood normal raids you‘ll get a bonus dialog with the leader of the main city of thavnair
It's really kinda wild how one of the most beloved scions and arguably the one the WoL ends up closest to doesn't really get much proper attention in the story until late HW patches in the lead up to Stormblood
Good luck ever finding a group to do those raids. Never have managed to get them done in years. Same with extreme trials, they need their own roulette selection
Just...be ready to heart Alisaie's ARR VA. Her brother, you could explain he sounded like he did in ARR cause he was an egotistical prat at the time, but her...yeah, her VA in ARR is easy to forget cause it absolutely does NOT sound like her or match her personality...at all.
Can you still do the quest even when you started Heavensward? Spoiler warning? Since I want to detail where I currently am right now: I just started to head towards Sharlayan with Y'shtola and Alphinaud. Can I still do this optional quest at this point?
Yeah easier said than done when nobody wants to do the coils and you have to rely on your overpowered friends to get you through it because again nobody wants to go through the coils. And before you say there's party finder I have already done this and sat there for literally 8 hours straight and not a single person wanted to join.
I recommending finding a synced discord. But I've seen synced PFs for the coils fill up. If I can do it, and I'm a trial player, you can do it. If there is a will there is a way. Good luck.
@@ojosama well I've already been through the coils because like I said I had to go through it with my high level friends but granted when I went through it my character was level 85 and they were level 90 so yeah. I tried to go through it myself but got stuck at the 5th coil in when it came to this weird dragon like creature that will knock you around the arena and if you just touch the edge once you instantly die and couldn't get past that
Can you explain how to access the Coils? I’ve tried multiple times but I’m waiting for hours to get people on board to no avail. It also doesn’t seem possible to solo it. Just started Heavensward and haven’t gotten to Alisaie yet, but I want to finish the Coils first.
Coils 1-5 I did actually through the DF as 1-4 can be easily muscled through so long as you have a cursory knowledge of the fights 5 you'll need to know how the fight goes I use to use the DF to teach people how to do the fight. After that I recommend using the PF, you should consider trying to find some synced discords many people like to do older content. I also recommend trying to form a static using the discords, or joining a static. Good luck.
I HATE that the story of coils is not mandatory and coils are long forgottrn dead hard content, they should rework it and put it in normal raid roulette because Alphinaud gets his character development in ARR and HW but without coils Alisaid just kinda shows up.
@@ojosama i more meant it that coils isnt rly content made for bushy tailed sprouts that barely know their rotations, the basic difficilty of synced coils is savage level, they could give it current savage treatment and remove mechs and reduce the difficulty of current mechs to make them easier and more fit to be "casual ARR content".
Coils during its initial release was essentially extreme difficulty with no normal option avaliable. You had to find party members, and the raid feels outdated now, with HW being the standard for 8-man raids. And the rewards don't matter anymore unless you really want to have specific dialog with Alisaie. Hopefully in the future it becomes part of raid roulette.
