Country girl here. My family use to own pigs, and I remember my cousin had wanted to throw her baby shower at our house. Her boyfriend and his friend wanted to go see our pigs. So when they got over there, they both started throwing up from the smell of pig shit. City folks come down here thinking they could handle it. I lived the countryside most of my life, and when you're working with livestock, you have to have a strong stomach because theres a lot of things you gotta deal with. Such as cleaning the pins, dealing with open wounds, infections, hauling big ass bags of feed, etc. Plus, when it comes time to kill them, it takes a lot to prepare the meat... my least favorite part was cleaning the chitlings!!! So I dont know why these tiktok people think it's cute because It's not its a business.

Irish country girl here. Went vegan at the age of 12 because I was appalled by the way "livestock" were treated on farms, in markets, in transit, etc. and realised I did not need not need to nourish myself on the products of such extreme violence. Irish farms are considered the "gold standard" for animal welfare; small, free-range, organic, etc., so bear that in mind the next time you're thinking of picking up "organic" "free range" meat, dairy, and eggs from the supermarket. Animals are sentient beings with lives and interests of their own, they are not ours to use and abuse as we see fit. In an age where fruit, vegetables, grains, and legumes are abundant 24/7, all year round, there is absolutely no excuse to kill or pay for an animal to be killed on our behalf for reasons of convenience, taste, tradition, or habit. The only time anyone should ever kill an animal is if it's absolutely necessary for their survival; if it's not a survival scenario, leave them alone!

Omg yes... pig farms are no joke. I went on a field trip to a pig farm when I was a kid. Took one step off the bus when the worst smell I could ever imagine hit my nose. I said NOSIRRR!! And went right back on the bus, closed the door and held my nose for an hour. I definitely understood the gangster body disposal idea in movies like Snatch. Nobody would be able to smell a corpse at the pig farm. And I bet the pigs don't like that life either. Swimming in their own chits. The crazy fact is you can free pigs from a farm into the wild. And three generations later, they'll look like wild boars. Hairy with tusks. Full-blown natural predators. Nature is wild. 😮😂

I was a trad wife, then i became a trad single mother of 11 children, (the oldest being 15 and the youngest was 1, yes i had 11 chidren under the age of 15). I did everything from scratch... EVERYTHING, including sewing their clothes, crocheting hats and scarves and growing our own food because I couldn't afford the grocery store. Not only was it time consuming it was overwhelming. It was rewarding in hindsight, but many a night, I was standing at the clothes line at 3 am crying because I was so tired, so burnt out and so overwhelmed. My only saving grace was that I undewrstood that my life was 100% - 24/7 about my 11 children, not about tik tok, you tube or looking pretty. Not only did I not have time to put on makeup, I didn't even own any makeup. These so called "trad moms / wives" on tik tok don't have a fu----n clue... SMH

Hey, I'm in Italy. No one. Repeat with me: NO ONE who is working does home made pasta. Grandma's, staying at home wives sometimes find time to make Homemade Pasta. It takes time. Now, my girlfriend owns a farm. And it's only her and her dad. Farm with vineyard, with a vegetable garden, and fields for crop. The only animals in the farm are about 10 chickens and a dozen big rabbits destined for the oven. They DO NOT sell any of their own grown vegetables and animals. Believe me it's a lot of work. No vacation, almost no weekends free to see friends or play games unless it's winter. And even then you have work to do. The phrase: WORK AT A FARM IS NEVER DONE is a fact!

I'm a trad wife, but when I started it was just called stay at home mom, and then i just learned about all the crap in everything we eat so i started making things like bread from scratch at home. But i think the difference is I grew up on a farm. With actual traditional parents and grandparents that I helped grow crops and tend to animals. When i was 14 i planted okra that grew taller than me, then my daddy went and cut it, and I had to cut it up, freeze it, and then i cooked fried okra for like two years off that one garden. I at 14 cooked full meals for a family of four and sometimes more families, so when i got married and moved away, i went through empty nest syndrome. It was weird. Now I'm the stay at home wife i never thought i would want to be, and i see all the things my daddy had me doing as a kid and teen was the better way of doing things. Like gardening, taking care of chickens, like canning, freezing, and dehydrating food. Damn in 2020 and 2021 when the supply chain was fucked, i was like "shit, i need to figure this shit out". I don't think ya'll realize a lot of this stuff is a reaction to instability in our countries. Am i making fucking cereal? No, but i can making cinnamon rolls, and I couldn't do that just few months ago.

Still comes from a place of privilege, like they said...Most people cannot afford this lifestyle. The cost in most places to have even a small outside space for growing surplus food, is unattainable..So, yes these skills are great but not in the cards for most...Even the cost of canning jars for start up is expensive. This lifestyle is a privilege of those that have and can afford it. The other side is those in abject poverty that have zero choice but too scrap by with the little they have. Those people often aren't as happy and wish better a situation...
@MrsJScarbrough
@MrsJScarbrough Месяц назад
@askajk5895 so there is always a cheaper way of doing things. Currently, I'm saving all my glass jars and metal lids from my spaghetti sauce, salsa, and pickles. You can clean and sanitize them and reuse them to can your food. When I was a kid, we cut up our vegetables and froze them. You can buy a used dehydrator for under $50, mine was $10. You just got to get things as you go. And yes, if you live in cities on top of other people it's really difficult to do this stuff, but just having an acre of land is enough to have a vegetable garden. Have you heard of the victory gardens during ww2? People grew their plants in their front yards of their little suburban houses. People in cities actually grew veggies where the grassy spots are between the road and the sidewalk. Even the government understood back then that being self-sufficient is very important in times of crisis. We might get back there soon.

Dear men, this not good at all. We forget that trad wives had a support system in small villages back in the day. Group of families worked together as a collective bigger family helping each other out. Times have changed, communities have been replaced by individualism and therefore the support structure is no longer there. If you want a trad wife in 2024, then you should at least afford her 2 servants, one to help look after your children and the other to help with house work, furthermore pay her a salary to look after herself and be sexy for you! Women are not your slaves they are your helper to achieve great things, build a legacy, how can she help if she is always tired!!!??? I don’t think we could’ve pulled it off without each other and help from other fam members occasionally. Quite often if someone works part time or they have a job that doesn’t pay much, both people working actually costs more bc daycare and other short cuts the family will make (eating out or buying mostly premade meals, paying for haircuts, and more) to make things easier would actually have more money if the person making less stayed home

I have an old cookbook with bunch of old recipes from my grandmothers/great grandmothers time. It´s a lot of really SIMPLE and QUICK! potato based, flour based, grain/oats and beans based recipes. "Put it in the oven and let it cook/bake while you do something else" type of recipes. In an old traditional household a lot more than a cooking needed to be done, so if you spend half of your day just cooking, when did you do the other chores around the house? Not to mention all the garden, backyard and field work you did outside of the house too, some women even worked in factories. Of course, most of the things that required manual labor to do can be now done by a machine - washing laundry or dishes, vacuum cleaning,... And as soon those things were invented and became more financially available, people took advantage of that, because no one really wanted to do everything by hand. Children used to play outside with other children and/or helped with adult work when they were old enough, many had to "grow up" quickly to help raise their younger siblings, some went to school only in winter and helped in the field in summer....For all of those reasons, and many more, the "traditional wife" today is different than it was before.

This 'Trad Wife' trend used to be looked down on. I was a stay-at-home mom that took a lot of flack for not working. I was looked down on and described as lazy and unmotivated. I had 4 kids and child care has ALWAYS been expensive AF. And regardless of how much I worked, 85% of my paycheck would pay for child care. It was cheaper to stay home with the kids. Now 2 incomes are needed for maintaining a household, financially. I have respect for couples that can navigate life on one income but unless he makes 6 figures, it's not feasible in 2024.

My mom was a stay at home mom and she struggled heavily with depression. Her life revolved around us when we were children and it stole a lot of experiences from her and that’s not even including the fact that she was a teen parent. Glamorizing that lifestyle is frustrating to me because I grew up in a home where my mom was a “trad wife” and it wasn’t easy. We were fed and clothed of course but we didn’t get to do much cause we were living off of one income. I rarely even saw my dad cause he was in the military working all of the time or on deployment. Our home life was hell because of trauma and what not so maybe it’s different for others who didn’t have lots of trauma. Anyway, being a housewife is not easy unless your husband is rich and you have no kids. It’s easy to clean and cook for the household, I do it myself today but it’s so easy for me because I don’t have kids and the people I live with make decent money. At times I get depressed though because my entire being revolves around cleaning, yard work and cooking. I have no other aspirations to work towards so I’m stuck in a house all day scrubbing floors and doing the same mundane stuff every single day. It’s definitely a privilege to stay home and take care of the house but it can be extremely depressing especially when you have no life outside of home care.

I dont understand the extremes in either direction on this. My husband and i are fortunate enough that i could stay home and look after the children full time until they both went to school. We definitely made some choices to live a very simple life for me to do so, but it was a really lovely time. I really, really loved being home looking after the house and kids full time. The year before our youngest went to school I updated my vocational skills and i returned to work part time and as the kids grow older I will work more hours. My life is definitely more about my kids and I am not a career minded person, but the extra income is really good for our family and the security of having a skilled job is very reassuring. If the need ever arose i can pivot very quickly into working full time, and nobody knows if or when their situation will drastically change. And the thing is, my job directly relates to the skills i practiced as a stay at home mother. I enjoy my job and the money is good for my family. I dont know why the concept of making caring for your home and family your main focus and having a stable job to support that ( as opposed to a career) is such a difficult concept to figure out.

You've got to pick and choose where the time goes. When my kids were little I had more time than money, so I did make most foods from scratch. Not clothing. I even made cereal - granola (it's easy, fast, and made in bulk). I used a bread maker to make my homemade bread. But I also had a spouse that participated in housework and childcare. I grew up with a stay at home mom and she stayed awake til 2 and 3 am many many nights cleaning sewing baking bread. We were not rich by any means. It was cheaper to make your stuff at home in the 80s. It's possible to be a stay at home parent doing all that home labor, but yeah, you're probably not gonna hand make cocopuffs.

My wife is a full-time mom to three (17, 8, and 1). We have machines to do all the manual stuff, she does grocery pickup so she doesn't need to walk around the store...and y'know what? That means more time with the kids, which is the goddamned point. She will make homemade bread every so often because 1) she enjoys it, and 2) it's infinitely better than anything in the store (crock bread - jalapeno cheddar is our favorite). I'm grateful I can work from home (full-time) so when she needs to do something I am here to help out. These influencers need to go away. Otherwise it’s frozen/ canned in water fruits and veggies if there’s no good quality on sale. Even, if I go to the farmers market. Forget the whole tradwife thing: Just the mere fact that she's engaged, and has decided to make a huge life-altering decision based off of some heavily curated and romanticised tiktok videos, means she's not mature or grounded enough in reality to be in a marriage. As someone from a legal background, I can also tell you that women who just consume and don't have their own income are entitled a lot more money and resources in a divorce. Why? Because alinony laws which were initially intended to stop cheating men from leaving their old wives and family destitute will be used to compensate her for sacrificing her career to care for the family. With a divorce rate of over 50 percent in the west, a marriage to a woman like her is like taking a random guess as to which wire will difuse the bomb and which will cause it to blow up immediately.

When my Nana, husband and Auntie move to Australia. She lived in a town where she lived on the outskirts in the middle of nowhere and it was hard to get stuff. Luckily she was a housewife and she used to cook everything from scratch. You couldn't get in your car and go down the shops. I asked her why she stopped doing these things. She said it was a lot of time and you are mostly run down all the time. She had four kids and she used to make it all breads, ginger ale, ice cream you name it she did it. When I grew up she was a plain old Nana that usually bought things from the shop. Unless it was dinner that was made from scratch. Breakfast was always toast or cereal. Lunch was always sandwiches and fruit with a cheeky snack. Simple stuff. My mom was a mixture of a housewife and a working wife which to me seems more insane and I have not heard much about these wifes. My mom would wake up super early to have a quick coffee start mountains of washing every single day. Hang all that out. Take care of the pets. Get us up as kids get us to Nana. Get herself to work 9 to 5. Get home. She never leaves any dishes on the sink doing them three to four times everyday, always swept the floor morning and night. My mom was a neat freak so it was constant housework and then Nana would bring us to her. She is still this way today and I'm worried that if she ever stops or gets sick she will have a mental breakdown. If you couldn't keep up to her standards, you were seen as messy and lazy. Plus she also took care of everything for my dad as in all the house bills because he was a full-time truck driver. Dad always had cooked meals, fresh clothes, mountains of fresh clothes, anything he needed she provided and when she hears that women don't look after their men she's like. How do you even get married? Why are you even together? What's the point? Why don't you look after him like he looks after you? People used to comment when they saw my dad's meals and say somebody loves you which he would smile. He had never in his whole life. Had a woman. Take good care of him. Women don't want to listen to the older women and how much it sucks. I mean you know how much it sucks but you don't want to hear the whole story from their mouths.

It’s 18+ hour days, dirty, always cleaning and doing chores. crunching finances, worrying about weather, frost and seed archiving (if you farm) and not to mention being very isolated sometimes. You are techincally still WORKING. Just not a a corporate 9-5. Some women and men love it, and all power to them. I'm not a tradwife, I do work part time because we have small children and don't want to pay ridiculous daycare prices. Now, it is super easy to make bread, the easiest in fact. You just weigh out two thing, throw them in the mixer and it will do the work. Then you cover it and put it away and it just proofs, all by itself. You come back and smooth it again or shape it, takes a minute, then cover it and it sits again. Once it's proofed enough you warm up the oven and throw it in. Then it just bakes, and tada! You got fresh bread. Actual work time is maybe 5 minutes. Most if the time is spent waiting. And some bread is cold proof, so it proofs at night when you sleep. Easy peasy. Also, if you spend most of day at home you are cleaning in-between doing things with kids. Also easy and it always stays clean. Do small loads of laundry every day and fold it while kids are getting ready for bed. It can be done. You don't have to be trad, you don't have to abandon your career and lose your relevant skills, and you can contribute to your household savings. Keep your family goals in mind and do what is best for your family

I don't have issue with tradwives-the ones that actually have to take on all the domestic duties-I have a problem with those who glamorize it and think this is something doable because you saw it on tiktok without reflecting upon how. Nara Smith was used an example; she does not refer to herself as a tradwife but falls into that niche because of what she's showcasing. But she can afford that lifestyle because she is a model and an influencer. She has the funds to have time to do this shit because she has other people to take on other domestic duties. Baking and cooking is a hobby and she showcases what she makes. People need to have a reality check.

There isn't a single tik toker that's a "trad" wife. They're stay at home wives at most. They work in the house and make money in the house. People need to be less focused on life style and more focused on what your partner needs from you. Very rarely a partner needs a house wife. A stay at home mom yes but not a house wife. If you don't want to do anything for your partner that they need then they're likely not the person for you or you don't want a relationship.

I’m a SAHM we have four kids total. I got married at 22 now 28. We have three together but I’m raising his 11-year-old too any woman who thinks that being a “trad,” wife is gonna be much easier has lost her damn mind. I’m a navy vet and my job now is more work someways than being in the Navy was I wouldn’t trade it for me. It’s worth it. But I work very very hard and I do have a garden and I do grow some of the stuff that we eat, and I’m also in the suburbs. You can’t expect to be a wipe overnight leave your comfort zone, and then start farming without even knowing basics first. What ALOT of women are DELULU in this way it’s just different bc what they think they want and ACTUALLY putting in the work to do and teaching themselves isn’t as easy as they thing. I’ve NEVER 😂referring to myself as a tradwife lol but I’m huge on my faith. That’s why I do what I do but it hasn’t been without a cost. I’m usually the last one to go to sleep and my husband who’s also in the navy has been deployed every single year while I either pregnant or just had a baby. I’ve done it alone for a few years now pretty young and inexperienced in child rearing but shoot. I was created for this bc I KNOW I was when I worked still. 9-5 wasn’t for me and I often broke down. Just do t equate a different job with being easier. We ALLLLL have to work in life no MATTER what we do. I’ll also add I have no family where I live and although they visit a lot to come help etc when I say I’ve done it alone I really mean that. No ONE is coming to pat you on the back and hang up an award for you saying best stay at home mother and wife ever… so IF a woman is very set in her modern ways it’s going to be a nightmare for her at first bc she will not get that same validation she would get in the work world. I was like 25/6 maybe 🤔 when I came home but remember I was married young and pregnant the OLDER she is and stuck in her ways the harder this transition would be. I’m bold enough to be honest about it. Like I said most are delulu. Try out a garden balcony and making your own deodorant and toothpaste and come and tell me you StILL really want a slower old fashioned lifestyle. But don’t think it won’t be hard on your body sometimes. It IS worth it for me. But I’ve taught myself a lot prayed and fasted about how I can be better and had to have some hard talks w myself. If you aren’t ready for that then no sis it’s not for you. 😂also I hate that 50-60s clothing type style.

I was a stay-at-home-mom for the first 10 years for my 2 kids. I was often burned out and exhausted, my children always looked good, stayed on a routine, learned to read and write years before their peers, learned to read music, i taught them cooking and cleaning early, i taught them money management, and it was all fun for us. Then when they were school aged i was on the PTO, now they are both currently in the Talented And Gifted programs at their schools. I am always beaming with pride when i think of them. I had no time to dress up and film myself. I was going to their appointments, their lessons, their needs were above mine. Meanwhile, I was a mess, i let my health go, i frequently felt burn-out but i did it all for my children and husband. I only took care of them that i got lost in the years. I had to sacrifice a lot from me not working but i worked very hard to do what i could with what i had to make sure they had every chance possible to reach their potential. People looked down on me as "just a mom" It kind of stung but i didnt care. I loved them tremendously and now i have two amazing well rounded smart teens. Yeah, that is a betty crock of s*it. I baked and made things from scratch when my son was a baby and toddler, however, it took days and I didn't put them on social media. I was going from the time I got up, then would sacrifice sleep to bake and try new things. As well as clean up before going to sleep. For example if I made bavarian creme handpies, I made the creme anglaise for bavarian cream, then another day I'd make the crust, then after it completely cooled the following day I'd put it all together. I did all the birthday cakes/desserts/decorating for my son and husband. That s*it took days, even weeks of planning in advance when I made things like the edible poker chips and cards by hand with what ingredients I had because there wasn't a ton of extra money to get fondant, etc. for my husband's poker cake. There is no whipping it up in 1 day, maybe for people that have all the expensive equipment, gadgets, etc, and aren't doing all of the "trad" or actual term housewife duties like the guy said. It's a show. There is a lot of s*it to do. Especially when you have a little one with reflux spitting up on every thing like I did, or wanted to throw his food all over the place before wanting to eat. Or a husband who has to have clean unwrinkled clothes for his job or 2 jobs and eats like a horse. The little fairytale bs is just that, bs unless they have a nanny and/or cleaner because the only time I could really do anything without interruptions was during my son's nap time and when he went to sleep. Other than that, I'd do a little here and there, but it was mostly spent with hands on time. Now my son has autism, but even then, young kids in general can't just be left to their own devices.

Nara enjoys cooking from scratch and often talks about it in her videos. It's not a bad thing to want to bake and cook from scratch. I also cook from scratch, but never thought to make my pasta or bread. However, recently I've been reading the ingredients listed on processed foods and it has encouraged me to try making my own. This is especially important for me because I've been dealing with stomach issues due to processed foods. I wish I had time to plant my vegetables, but unfortunately, I work two jobs and don't have enough time. I do believe it's possible to add to your lifestyle and it's healthier for sure. So in Nara Smith’s defense, she has really bad ekzema and I heard that some people with this condition cook from scratch because of the ingredients and food allergies and it helps them to control their breakouts a lot more. She has never labeled herself as a trad wife, it’s others putting labels onto her. She’s doing what works for her and her family and people have made a big deal out of it and turned it into a whole trend. This is definitely not realistic for everyone, but eczema breakouts are painful and if she has found something that helps, then I’m happy for her.

Most of her cooking is semi-homemade and her house wouldn’t pass a white glove test because she doesn’t have all day to spend cooking and cleaning, most of her day is spent on childcare. And no judgement, her kids are very well fed and cared for and she loves doing it. She’s living life on her terms and I wish her the best of luck with it. The key is three children. Yes, if a wife is going to homeschool, take care of the kids, clean the house, etc. for multiple children... those economics and outcomes make sense. That's tens of thousands a year for private schooling, after school day care, a part-time maid and part-time cook. The economics for that makes perfect sense, plus the better outcomes for the kids. It's also hard work -- lesson plans, tests, juggling activities, arranging stuff, cooking, cleaning, meal plans, maintaining social activities, etc. However, there is no point in 2024 to be a stay-at-home wife without kids. For a few hundred dollars a week, you can get a maid service to clean your house -- not that two adults typically make that much of a mess. A laundry service maybe another few hundred. Simple economics (even with taxes) says it is better to work even part-time and just pay someone to do that if the two of you can't.

I agree with Aba bout people wanting farms etc. As its that easy. I am in the process of doing so that at least i am 50% where i produce most my food intake. You have to know what soil is in your property, what seasons and veggies are in season and whats best for your state. If you want fruits guess what you are not gonna get fruits within a month. I planted blueberries and this takes 2-3 yrs for establishing and getting it to fruit..apples, oranges, peaches lordt anywhere 5-10 yrs. My rasberries and blackberries 1 yr and a bit and thats with constant care and its hard work. Don't get me started with fishing and having chickens, ducks and goats!!!

Since when chickens are hard? They grow fast, they start putting eggs fast. The only problem with chickens are predators. If you are in rural places and chickens can run through the whole farm, hawks are a big threat. If you keep them enclosed, foxes and other smaller predators are a threat. But if you put some fence type roof over areas they can roam, and fence sides of the area, chickens are super easy.

I grew up outside the USA and I am so surprised how much work American parents take on by themselves, without delegating some to the children. Like, I was shown how to start cleaning my room and wash dishes by about 7 yrs old and I could wash the bathroom & clean the floor about a year later. Also, I was so surprised that many of my mates, when I went to college in Atlanta, were not able to do the bare minimum of cleaning. So, my opinion is, if you're going to be a good traditional parent, start showing your children how to start doing things.

My wife is traditional not the trad wife thing. She does have a massive garden I built her, crochet & sew, makes decorations, cooks and cleans. I mean she's Caribbean and was raised by her grandmother who could do all those things. But your completely correct most of them are time fillers. She did sewing & crochet for a hobby until I earned enough for her to stay at home. The garden is a time filler, the crochet & decoration stuff went from time filler to small business because she had the time. Cooking and cleaning she primarily once she started staying at home as well. All was because she had time and wasn't as tired from working. It does save us money and fun to do especially from her standpoint. The trend stuff is mainly for views obviously but some people are like that based on culture and upbringing. I was shocked by just how man people in the city crochet and garden once she start joining groups for tips and tricks. Being Ethiopian and Haitian I'm sure y'all know women who do as well just not for views.

My husband and I used to talk about the possibility of me being a stay-at-home wife/mother one day, but never could see how it would be possible, then COVID happened and I got let go from my job. I am currently a full time start-at-home wife, but I do have a part-time job and am in school full time. I cook every to every other day and love baking, but I've definitely came up with hacks to get through the day and make it easier. Even if I didn't have those things, what most women fail to realize is being a stay-at-home wife/mother isn't for the weak. The shit ain't pretty, unless you're like my baby sister that married rich and has help so she can focus solely on cooking if that's her prerogative. I definitely didn't get dressed up like that on a regular as that mess looks straight silly when you're mopping and scrubbing a toilet. For those that want a farm, start with a small garden first. "dad is always gone." Besides the danger women put themselves and their kids in by being totally dependent on their husbands, this is the other thing I find distasteful about "trad" life. These same people who advocate for "trad" life will go on and on about how present fathers are SO important in kids' lives, yet simultaneously advocate for a domestic arrangement that requires dad to be gone more often than not- and the more people he has to support, the more he's gonna have to work.
